Title: Electives!
Post by: Bri MT on June 18, 2018, 03:44:53 pm

At the school I went to you didn't get any choice in your subjects until year 9,  and then you got to have 2 electives.
I chose Community Connections & outdoor ed (not VCE level).

Outdoor Ed was great & I really enjoyed it but I only choose CC because it increased my chance at a leadership opportunity I wanted. (Luckily I got it,  otherwise I would've had serious regret)

What electives are you taking? When do you get to choose them?

Great picks (especially the first two). Not that i'm biased or anything :)

We never had journalism as an elective in my school,  what do you learn in it?

They're pretty cool electives. As per Bri MT's post above, I'm keen to hear more about Journalism! Definitely would have chosen that if offered.

Is it ok to still reply after 30 days??

I'm currently doing filmmaking as my elective. Last term I did Auslan, and next semester I'll be doing creative writing (term 3) and community volunteering (term 4).

We had electives in y8 as well but only for terms 3 and 4. I did music and astronomy.

Yeah,  as long as it's the right thread for your reply :)

Those sound like some pretty great electives,  do you know how the community volunteering elective works?  Like,  is it more about theory or experential learning?

If you're interested in film making you might  want to check out some of beatroot's threads - especially their uni journey journal

Just a tip: Don't judge yourself on the marks you get. Judge yourself on what you obtained from the experience. Go out of your comfort zone, risk everything. Trust me, Year 9 is your best chance.
