I haven't touched biology yet. Gotta get thru german oral and english first. and I've basically given up on biol after a disappointing mark for my midyears
so what's everyone been doing to revise???
(if anyone needs practice exams, I have lots :) STAV, IARTV, Lisachem, VCAA of course, NEAP, and some other company i can't remember)

is there anyway to upload word docs to posts on this forum? if you can, i'll upload my notes for those interested in some last minute cramming
-
(DNA) ligase
lol at coblin's .... input
How on earth do I upload practice exams? I've got about a billion of them that I'll probably never do on CD gathering dust.
-
mast...icate
Nah, umm
mitochondria? :P
-
oligoprobe
lol, in spite of its name, this forum apparently won't allow me to upload some free study notes....how ironic lol :?
i'll upload them on BoS if anyone is interested
-

-
quadruped
is all i could come up with
-
we're on to R silly... :P
restriction fragment length polymorphism
i put some notes on BoS if anyone's interested...

Hmmm W is for um White Blood Cells aka Leukocytes!
Hope this isn't forum necromancy lol.

xylem
-
Y chromosome
-

Maybe we should include definitions or something to make it more of a learning thing lol?
-
Calvin Cycle :)
-
diploid - a cell containing two sets of chromosomes
-
Endergonic Reaction - A reaction requiring engery i think, opposite of exergonic i think which is releasing engery.
Aimee
-
fructose!
a monosaccharide ;)
-
gall bladder - stores excess bile
-
Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium - the condition describing a nonevolving population (one that is in genetic equilibirum)
OMG ITS STARTING UP AGAIN
-
isotonic....(I think this is a biology term...I remember so and I remember this being related to my potato experiment)
-
juice?!
is there even a biological term starting with j?
hahah
-
I got one for J:
J gene! :P
gene or genes coding for the joining segment of polypeptide Chain which links the v (variable regions) to the c (constant) regions of both light and heavy chains of immunoglobulins.
-
krebs cycle ^-^
-
lysosome- a membrane enclosed bag of hydrolytic enzymes found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells
-
mast cells (involved in allergies)
-
nephron - the basic function unit of the kidneys, filters wastes
-
O - oxygen
All I could think of :D
-
pyruvate
-
biology
-
Quaternary Structure
-
Ribosomes - organelles that synthesis protein
-
hows everybody going with bio- not much mention of bio on this forum i guess all the biol ppl r studin way to hard!!!
-
Starch - a carbohydrate composed of numerous glucose units joined by glycosidic bonds; function - energy storage.

I'm extremely happy with my Unit 3 SAC marks. However, doing well on Biology SACs and a Biology exam are 2 very different things...I'm not very well prepared for the exam because I just haven't been revising and practising questions enough :(
-
Synaptonemal complex - A protein complex that acts as the mediator for chromosomal synapses in meiosis
-
thymus
-
uracil - a pyrimidine base found in RNA
-
vesicle - a 'package' created by a cell which carries materials in or out via active transport.
-
white blood cells
-
xylem - transports water up a plant
-
Y-chromosome
lol
-
Zero population growth- a period of stability in population size when the per capita birth rates and death rates are equal.
-
Allergen - a harmless substance against which the immune system develops antibodies, causing the person to become sensitised and the immune system to overreact (allergic response) upon re-encounter with that substance.
-
Bacteria - prokaryotic, single-celled organisms.
-
Cytotoxic T cell - cell invovled in specific immunity that kills virus infected cells by inducing lysis
-
Drosophila - A small fruit fly which is inexpensive and easily replaceable. Do to its small size, we see no ethical challenges in subjecting it to biological experiments. :)

...LOL :D
Eosinophil: non-specific, second level of defence granulocytic leucocytes which can lyse the cell walls of pathogens with powerful enzymes released from their secretory vesicles.
-
E for EXAM!
-
E for EXAM!
haha yeah...E for Exam: torturous paper booklet with confusing questions printed on it, specifically designed by VCAA to bully Victorian biology students :)
anyway, my next contribution to the alphabet game:
F for fever: the setting of the body's temperature to a higher point, induced by macrophage-secreted interleukins as part of the inflammatory response. Fever limits the functioning of pathogens, allowing the immune cells to act more effectively.

...
I swear that was on the last question of today's biology exam. LOL
-
It was! Copper concentrations in the cells of drosophila flies. I nearly cracked up because I remembered what DivideBy0 said here. :)

Hahaha, yeah I immediately thought of his post too! I scribbled a "lol" next to the question. :P
-
Lol serious? That's maaddddd :D
Hope it didn't distract you too much though

It didn't distract me at all lol...it only served to make me relax and feel less nervous, which is a good thing in an exam! I wonder what the examiners will think of Toothpick writing 'lol' next to the question :p
-
Genome - sum of an organisms genes
This is an old thread now, my old procrastination stomping ground. One year on and i'm still putting off studying biology
Congrats on the modness Tooth
-
Hereditary - not getting a textbook definition but i think its stuff that gets passed down :P lol....
Aimee :)
