Can you do units 1/2 of a subject in year 10 and then do the 3/4 units in year 12?

Yep :)
Three of the girls in my biology 3/4 class did 1/2 while in year 10 and are doing 3/4 in year 11. Just means less work in year 12 if you stay committed and do the work properly.

Or do you mean do a 1/2 in year 10, don't do the 3/4 the following year and then pick up that subject back in year 12? If so, I don't recommend it, just go straight through with it and get it out of the way

I meant the second one. I know it sounds horrible but wouldn't it be kindof like a safety blanket? For example, if I want to do 7 subjects  or if I don't want to continue with one of the subjects I do in year 11, then I can just continue with this subject, in year 12.
Thanks for your help :)

I wouldn't recommend it for several reasons:
- Doing 7 subjects is pointless as only 6 gets counted towards your ATAR (unless you like learning, go ahead)
- You might forget the 1/2 content that you learnt 2 years ago (bad if your 3/4 needs 1/2 knowledge)
- You don't know what units 3/4 are actually like until you do it (in regards to "dropping a year 11 subject")
- As others said, doing a unit 3/4 subject and getting it out of the way is useful for year 12
