What was the impact of Akehanten's religious reform to egypitans, society and the kings?

The Aten was the only god that was worshipped (Akhenaten stripped away the concept of polytheism, which was traditional for Egyptian religion). However, there is evidence that some Egyptians secretly still worshipped a multitude of gods (small wooden carvings of gods like Bes were found in some homes). Thus, the Egyptians/society weren't as severely affected as the kings would have been - constantly in Akhenaten's sight, they would've had to strictly adhere to his policy/religious reform.

I completed my HSC in 2018, so I'm sorry if this is not much help, but this is what I remembered off the top of my head. Hope it helps somewhat  :)
