Firstly are the two different?

If I want to get into Medicine which of the two is the prerequisite?

Hi Dodo1,
Yes, English and English Language are two distinct subjects. Normal English has a focus on enhancing student’s abilities in analyzing and writing, whilst English Language has much more of a focus on the functions of language and why we say what we do. English leans towards the traditional text response, comparative analysis and language analysis (a more natural approach), while English Language delves into devices of speech and word structure (a much more scientific approach).

Actually, when entering medicine, you can choose one or the other, it doesn't matter – both give you the necessary skills to work in the world of medicine. It might be a good idea for you to read the individual study designs for all of the units you’re looking at – this will give you a clear view of the aims, key knowledge, key skills and what you should ultimately be able to achieve in your senior years.

Here are VCAA’s study designs for English (EAL) and English Language.
