Title: VCE Physics or VCE Biology
Post by: ziaxadon on November 11, 2017, 09:00:33 pm
Hey Guys,
This year I have completed both unit 1/2 physics and biology. However, due to my school's vce requirements, I have to choose either one of these sciences and drop the other one. I do see my self as a mathematical minded student (although I do still find physics difficult at times) but I am still interested in both physics and biology. I just want to ask which of these two sciences should I drop and which of these two is the easier one? Lastly which one of these would be best for completing in VCE? Thanks!

What are you planning to do after high school?

I am planning to do maybe biomed or something that is medicine related.

Well i think you have answered your own question ahaha

However if you feel much stronger in Physics then maybe you should do that to meet the ATAR requirements for Med.

Keep in mind that doing bio may be looked upon more favourably when applying for uni

I would recommend Biology then. Because if you do happen to get into Medicine, if you didn't do Biology as a VCE subject you have to do a bridging course for it over the summer holidays. Besides, despite the hard exams that VCAA has been sending out lately, Biology is a really fun and super interesting subject!!!

I suspect biology would be the better subject for you then, as it will have more direct applicability to your future.
There isn't much maths in VCE biology, but I think that logical thinking will still help you there.

It's hard for me to directly compare workload since I've done them in different years.  I think that physics is more liable to mark loss from stupid errors than biology, but for many people physics is probably also more conceptually challenging.

The moment you say 'bio'med, you have your answer. I personally love physics and dislike Biology, but if you want to do something medicine related, biology is undoubtedly your best option. However if maths is your strength, you might still like to consider Physics. In the end, the decision is up to you, and one you have made a decision, just don't look back and say 'What if?' It is one of the most dangerous things to say in your life. Good luck!
