METHODS EXAM 2 SOLUTIONS

Exam 2s take a while to write up. Sorry 'bout that. We've probably made a few typos / minor errors. If you spot one, let me know, and I'll fix it maybe tomorrow.

Got completely lost towards the end of q2 and q5 but other than that pretty happy with it. Had to guess 3 multi choice. Now I can only hope I didn’t do anything stupid.

Yes. The axis is vertical, not horizontal

If we had last answer as decimal (lol ik we werent meant to but my cas wasn't giving me exact value so with some wishful thinking I thought maybe since the wording stuffed up they originally intended for answer to be a certain number of decimal places - yes ridiculous I know)

So if you gave answer as 18.42 (something like that) would you lose the mark?

Based off having done most other vcaa exams, I honestly feel like A+ could be as high as 70/80

I don't think so myself, maybe a bit higher than last year but I didn't feel it was that different. You could be right though.

I haven't seen exam 2 yet so can't speak about the difficulty and projected A+ cut offs for that but I think basically every year in the past those scores would yield a low 40 study score.

Also make sure not to double post on the AN forums as per the rules.

It was f(a) - think that gave you 9/10 or something

-on a side note, anyone else kinda happy vcaa made the mistake with horizontal/vertical cos after hearing the mistake you could guess the question was going to involve finding the area of a function by using the inverse (without even properly reading the question)
Feel like I may have missed that if they had the question right in the first place  :P

Pretty happy with today 146-152 out of 160. But I did really bad yesterday, so looking at about 70-80% exam 1. Do I still have a chance of raw 40+ if my sacs are above average in the top select entry school (so around 85-100% GA1 depending on scaling).

exam 1 32/40
exam 2 70-73/80
teacher didn't tell me the percentage but told me i am the one of the top students in a moderate cohort of around 50 people.
is there any chance of getting raw 40+ study score?

Hmmm how'd u find it guys?
I think the paper was OK. Just a typo in Section B Question 4 f. i. should be 0.2947 and not 0.2949, other than that all answers look good to me. I'm a bit surprised that they placed a question with an infinite number of solutions with Question 3 e. Also surprised that there was a typo in the exam! You would think that there had been plenty of proof reading to avoid these mistakes.

Oh my GOD I f**king BOMBED lmao

Funny thing is that I got most of the super difficult, top of the state questions, I just messed up on suuuuuper basic crap, like calculating super simple integrals. I don't know what was happening to me, something just stopped working up there??? Maybe I was just pressing my CAS buttons wrong or something??? Either way, it stings real bad ughhhhhhhhhh.

Least I have another math subject to redeem myself with tomorrow, hopefully  :-\

hiiii
do you think a raw 40 is possible with:
- SACs: top 25% of cohort
- exam 1: 36/40
- exam 2: 73-74/80
I stuffed up my first methods sac (worth 50% of SACs), so I was worried whether I could still get a 40
Also, for the transformation question where you find a,b,c,d I guessed a=-1 and b=1 would I still get a mark? haha

GA3 - 60/80

What SS would I be looking at?

Yes, very possible. In fact I'd expect a 42-46. Large range as we are unsure how much this year's exam difficulty will affect scores.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that VCAA award consequential marks if a question requires the answer from a previous calculation.

Sacs-74 ( top 1/3 of a cohort of 30ish students, weak-avg cohort ( last year had 1 43 ) )
Exam 1- 31-33/40
Exam 2-55-58/80

For the area question from t=0 to T=6, I did it for the entire area by accident ( I multiplied the correct answer by 4 ). Do you reckon I’ll get consequential marks?

If you got the wrong answer with an incorrect method then you won’t get consequential marks, they’re only given if you make a small error (calculator maybe) but with the correct method/working or if the answer required values from previous questions.

Hey guys quick question;
For the probability question where they gave the probability rounded to 4 decimal places, I calculated the exact probability and used that for further parts of the question since they never said explicitly to use the rounded value.
Do you guys think that VCAA will accept my answer?
