Hey y'all, can someone run me through the mech eng breadth track (through commerce) and what subjects need/should be taken to cover the prereqs for the masters or less specifically how many points at each year level

I'm having real trouble trying to get any information out of the website and handbook

ty ty :)

From what I see on the website( http://www.eng.unimelb.edu.au/study/undergraduate/mechanical.html) this plans looks pretty accurate, except for first year, where it says to complete intro micro and intro macro in the same semester, which is not allowed. Basically you need to cover 50 points minimum commerce, complete calc2, Lin alg (and calc 1 if you didn't do specialist maths in VCE) and ESD2 in your first year. Hopefully you've already done some of these. You should also check out the Commerce Student Centre for additional assistance, they provide great help for engineering students.  :)

EDIT: never mind, I noticed your previous posts and noticed you're not a first year... Lol. But following the subject plan will cover all your credits points and prerequisites for masters

In regards to me getting experience in my undergrad, I've just finished 2nd year today, and there is small, small chance of getting any work without nepotism after your first year because you don't know jack about proper engineering. For me, this is my first stint at engineering work. This industrial robotics project is my first, and I'll be assisting a research team with computer programming and hardware tests apparently for 12 weeks, which should be really fun!

Hey, I'm just curious about how this went. Summer research apps open soon and I'm thinking of applying, any advice? Thanks!

what is the average score you need to be considered for a place in those programs?

Is there a benefit to doing Vector Calculus / Real Analysis and Differential Equations over Engineering Mathematics, if I have the opportunity to do so?

Thanks

Honestly, the only added benefit will be a better mastery of mathematics. Eng Maths covers all of the maths you'll need for 3rd year onwards, but if I as in your position I would take VC/DE over Eng Maths just because I like maths.

I was wondering how difficult is mechanical dynamics relative to engineering mechanics and thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. I'm a electrical major, and it seems MD might be useful for control systems.

^dont do mechanical dynamics
It's perhaps one of the hardest undergrad engineering subjects, so much so that they actually changed the mechanical systems major and replaced it with systems modelling and analysis

As an electrical major you won't need mechanical dynamics for control systems anyways
Becuse you would be doing signals and systems, which is a pre req for that

I'm in year 10, and am looking at doing engineering. I plan to take a general engineering in my first year of uni, which is where i will work out exactly which form of engineering i will do. Next year, in year 11 i am going to do a VCE 3&4 subject, and then for year 12 i will be doing methods, physics, but have no idea what else. What subjects are recommended? I'm ok at maths, at MHS, but not anywhere near top of the class.
Thanks for the help
