If we are told that Your piece is to be published in an anthology of writing written by VCE students for the wider school community... does that mean our piece MUST be written by a VCE student?
Does that mean we can't write in a character's POV if the character is not a VCE student? :(
Is it likely that we will be restricted to be writing by a VCE student?

Nope, it just means that the piece you write, whatever it is, is planned to be published in some sort of collection of pieces. Although yes, of course it is a VCE student who wrote it, the POV you adopt can be whatever is suitable.
"Written by VCE students" just means that VCE students actually physically wrote it (which is true) and does not affect the content of the essay, including the style/POV you use.

Vce student - seems to be the most free prompt
You can effectively "do anything" within reason
- ie creative - a speech or a school style creative vs newspaper: reflective, extract from a speech etc
- ie expository - but a more school style one vs a newspaper prompt which would have to be more targeted to a wider audience - hence think opinion column/ Sunday life magazine style
etc
As for being written just by a vce student- no - but it might be wise to put a sentence up the top saying - As part of my english study, I wrote a meditation on aging (except be more eloquent) etc

Does that mean we can't write a story or walk-through of the life of a character? I would get so annoyed if we couldn't do that. :(

For vce student - anything!!!
For newspaper - more restricted - but you could easily take another persona even in a opinion style article
but if it was a specific newspaper ie a literary journal then you could do a more conventional imaginative

Hmmm, so if i do a speech by a non VCE character...it still fits the prompt?
I'm so confused, how can a speech or diary entries be published into a collection of pieces written by a VCE student?
Sif anyone would wanna publish their diary entries :o
:( I think i'm just stressing and thinking too much... :P lol
So is is better to state that its a speech and that a VCE student (me :P) wrote a creative piece in the POV of the character?
Or is it assumed already if the examiners can tell its a speech?

you've gotta specify what form your writing is going to be. even if that wasn't a requirement its probably the safe thing to do.
and a diary entry has often been suggested as a viable form for an imaginary piece (in checkpoints and neap) so yeah, i wouldn't worry about it.

All in all, I don't think VCAA is going to choose anything which effectively wipes out any possibility of doing any of the three text types; hence why they chose a student anthology for their sample exam. Trial exam companies have also done stuff like writing competitions and such, but overall, my expectation is that the task will pretty much have NO influence on what you want to do pretty much. And yes, a student anthology does mean that you can do pretty much anything - it's just a collection of VCE work, and in VCE, we can write anything :]

i would bet my right hand that this year's english exam context for context (lol...) will allow us to explore a vast range of forms of writing.
confining your prose to "be published in a newspaper opinion section" or something similar to this just seems too restricting in terms of writing, especially since the english design details the study of expository, persuasive and imaginative as the three, broad forms.
