Haha, well to some, a pen is something that is sentimental - similar to a watch. I know people who are happy wearing $10 watches that break every few months, whereas I prefer wearing a nice watch because it's something I value - in the long run, of course you pay for quality, but in return, you get reliable, good service from it and it lasts you a while. The same goes with pens!

Yes but watches are boss, whereas people who use hundred dollar pens at school are douchebags :P.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I have taken note of all the suggested pens and will be testing them out over the next few weeks. I'll post my findings on here.

Yesterday Mum bought me a Uniball Jetstream (Image removed from quote.)
I can tell you know I think it will be hard to beat.

Price (9/10) I think it was around $4.90 which I find great value for money for the quality of the pen.
Grip (8/10): It has a nice size grip, with a thin rubber outer. It isn't too squishy and offers a solid feel.
Weight (9/10): It is a little heavier than your standard Kilometrico or Bic single pen, but obviously not as heavy as your metal fountain pens. I quite like the weight of it, but that's just me.
Speed (9/10): It is super quick across the page! Super smooth with none of that clicking whenever you press the pen down on the page.
Inkage (9/10): So far I haven't had any of what I call "spiderwebs" where the pen leaks. It is 1mm which I quite like, not too bold, but also not not so thin I have to press down hard to get a solid print.

Total (44/50) By no means am I an expert of pens and this is just my own personal opinion, basically just me crapping on.
Available at office works?

This questions seems to be asked every year, how interesting!
About Philosophy

When I see a youth thus engaged,—the study appears to me to be in character, and becoming a man of liberal education, and him who neglects philosophy I regard as an inferior man, who will never aspire to anything great or noble. But if I see him continuing the study in later life, and not leaving off, I should like to beat him - Callicle

I don't think you should be labelling someone a douchebag about something like using a pen worth a certain amount.

Different people justify spending different amounts of money on different things.

Some people justify spending heaps of money on postage stamps, some people pay lots for antique currency, some people spend heaps on watches, some people spend heaps on online games/gaming stations, some people spend heaps on pens.

It comes down to what you value as a person.

Pilot bottle 2 pen

hug yo trees man
it is actually quite a good pen; tip is fine and sharp, Ink is strong and black with a low viscosity, grip is weighty and firm. It does smudge, but anyone who cant deal with ink smudging should have their pen license removed

what are the main factors that influence your choice? Is it the grip size? softness? aesthetics? ink colour? smoothness of tip? general feel/cramp-prevention?

I was joking, but ok I'll bite. There's nothing wrong with an expensive pen, but I haven't met a single person who uses an expensive pen at school without the explicit purpose of showing off. I mean it's school, people lose their pens all the time / they get broken, and when we say expensive - i'm talking $100 range pen... buy one when you own a business, they're not for your english essays :P.

Yeah, that's because watches are boss to you - if we talk in terms of FUNCTIONALITY - I can probably find a $30 watch which has all the functionality of a Rolex or Omega - i.e. tells the time, stopwatch (chronograph)...etc.

It's the same thing with pens - you can find a $1 which is FUNCTIONALLY the same as a $100 pen - but the difference lies in the quality of the product.

For example, if I pay more for a Rolex watch, I expect good quality, that it will last me for a long time, that it will "look good" and that it will work reliably.

Same thing goes for pens - if I pay more for a pen, I expect the ink to be smoother, a nicer writing experience and better quality - for example, I know that my pen (which is around $40 - so not too expensive) is pretty much leak proof - unlike the cheaper pens - so I can keep it in my shirt/pants pocket without worrying. It's also lasted me for over a year - which is a very long time.

So I don't think it's justified to call anybody a douchebag just because they value something different to you - we all like to spend our money on different things. For example, I could easily call a person who goes out to buy FIFA '12 a douche just because FIFA '10 is like $20 and is similar. I could also call anybody who buys a BMW a douche because they could have just gotten a Hyundai.

It's what you decide to pay for and what you value, essentially, so do be respectful.

CAN'T BELIEVE YOU JUST SAID THAT! TOO FAR BRO, TOO FAR!

But no seriously, a) 60% of what I said was a joke, b) the 40% referred explicitly to people who use expensive pens at school, again, nothing wrong with an expensive pen and your reasoning for using one is sound, I'm talking about using it at SCHOOL though.
