CAN'T BELIEVE YOU JUST SAID THAT! TOO FAR BRO, TOO FAR!

But no seriously, a) 60% of what I said was a joke, b) the 40% referred explicitly to people who use expensive pens at school, again, nothing wrong with an expensive pen and your reasoning for using one is sound, I'm talking about using it at SCHOOL though.

Hahaha, well I had to take an extreme example, but come on, you can't deny that it's true, FIFA only changes marginally year to year yet I know people who have like FIFA '09, FIFA '10, FIFA '11, FIFA '12! But yeah, the same argument applies there - you're paying more for something which is a marginal improvement.

Oh, nah I understand that it's a joke, I joke around all the time, but yeah - I used my pen at school but it wasn't to show off or anything, it was just because it felt really comfortable writing with it (smooth and good weight) and it wrote really reliably - like it never needed a scribble to get the ink going - stuff like that.

But I do agree with you - there are some people who use/wear/buy expensive stuff for no other reason than showing off - but oh well, it's their money and if they have the money then that's their choice - they're not really harming anyone so I guess it's not a bad thing.

Well I'm glad we resolved this dispute amicably :).

But I must warn you, if you ever insult FIFA again I will find you and kill you.

Jesus.

Am I the only one who just uses whatever pen they find in their pencil case? (always have different pens in there for some reason lol) :P.

Haha, well to some, a pen is something that is sentimental - similar to a watch. I know people who are happy wearing $10 watches that break every few months, whereas I prefer wearing a nice watch because it's something I value - in the long run, of course you pay for quality, but in return, you get reliable, good service from it and it lasts you a while. The same goes with pens!

Yes but watches are boss, whereas people who use hundred dollar pens at school are douchebags :P.

I don't think you should be labelling someone a douchebag about something like using a pen worth a certain amount.

Different people justify spending different amounts of money on different things.

Some people justify spending heaps of money on postage stamps, some people pay lots for antique currency, some people spend heaps on watches, some people spend heaps on online games/gaming stations, some people spend heaps on pens.

It comes down to what you value as a person.

I was joking, but ok I'll bite. There's nothing wrong with an expensive pen, but I haven't met a single person who uses an expensive pen at school without the explicit purpose of showing off. I mean it's school, people lose their pens all the time / they get broken, and when we say expensive - i'm talking $100 range pen... buy one when you own a business, they're not for your english essays :P.

Don't want to turn this into an absolute shit storm once again. My comments seem to make that happen :\

Similar to Bhootnike, I have a pen and a mechanical pencil that I paid more than $100 for. It stays in my blazer pocket constantly because a) you never know when you'll need a pen, and b) it's the only pen I use. I've never told anyone how much I spent on either, despite being questioned a multitude of times.

Why did I justify forking out the money I did when I could have easily spent a tiny fraction of the price?

As Paul mentioned, for a better quality product and a better experience when using it. Also, I like the way it looks. It's quite understated, really.

Has a nice weight to it, feels right in my hand and is black/silver.

Not everyone loses their pens/pencils all the time.

Also, I should mention - if you're prone to losing something - buy something slightly more expensive - you'll look after it more carefully if you can't afford to lose it :P

i have three $100 + fountain pens ive been using for over 2 years, at school.
and ive never used a ballpoint except for coloured ones for the sole writing purpose (except exams. i use frixion pens..)
Three? Seems excessive.

i fancy them.
i have a collection, hence i have more, however i only use 3 atm
besides, i find them more ergonomic than ball points. and they look so much cooler.

noobs and their $100 pens :P

Aurora Diamante Fountain Pen
Price: $1.47 million

The magnificent fountain pen is said to the first and only 30 carat pen in the world and features 2,000 diamond encrusted throughout its body. Furthermore, to ensure bespoke elegance, the Diamante comes with a gold nib, while demanding a big hole in your pocket as it costs $1,470,600. Primarily because of such a high price tag and the plethora of precious gems, Aurora has planned to craft only one such pen year, thereby preserving exclusivity.

For example, I could easily call a person who goes out to buy FIFA '12 a douche just because FIFA '10 is like $20 and is similar.

....blasphemy!

That really depends.

If someone earns $500 million a year, they're spending 0.2% of their income.

That's like someone who earns $100 thousand a year spending $200 on a pen.

If they like pens, that isn't so bad. Everything is relative.
