Title: Australian Open...
Post by: ben_ess12 on January 17, 2011, 08:25:18 pm
general thoughts on the tennis, what you hate about it, what you like, who will win, surprising first rounds outs any general discussion... .

personally i fail to understand why the players need the crowd to be silent it just annoys me so very much. i understand roaring crowd would be annoying but the slightest noise and they ask them to leave or dont play the ball

Good thread.

Especially as they grunt so loud...

My predictions:
My brain says Nadal, but I really want Federer to win.

Really surprised that Hantuchova was eliminated earlier this afternoon. Pity, she's gorgeous :P

Federer for mens, Hewitt as the roughie.

Wozniacki for womens, Stosur/Ivanovic as the roughie

(I can't tip tennis at all, bet against those people winning)

Hewitt's a good roughie as long as he gets through tonight.
The grunting is so bloody annoying...
Mens: Federer
Womens: Ivanovic Stosur

omg.. Venus is the worst.
The FedExpress had a close call.. LOL at Tomic V Rafaaaaar. I'd be suprised if Tomic can take a set off Nadal.

That would be a miracle.

Tomic vs Nadal is gonna be one-sided epic let-down.

I've taken worse bets but I agree, Nadal will probably win comfortably. Don't think it'll be all that one sided though

Tomic is the only Aussie left right? (I'm a tennis noob)

Wish him well against Nadal!

You are correct since Molik and Stosur are now gone.
He seems to have him running around a bit but the experience he is getting now should help for the future.

Murray's expected opponents are dropping like flies!

He was expected to face Robin, Rafa and Roger. Even more pressure on him now, he'll be lambasted in the British press as an epic choker if he doesn't win.

Same here, not much of a fan of Murray... But I do like Djokovic :)

Li Na for womens.

But Li Na for women though!

Li Na to become the first person in history to win a Grand Slam and complete a degree in medicine, law, commerce and engineering before she dies?

In all seriousness, Marin Cilic completed a degree in laws whilst training for tennis, believe me, those aren't easy to attain in Europe.

yeah, many people, even in Britain, don't like his snarling and growling and project him as arrogant. I think he's a good guy though, he's modest and good-humoured in interviews, at least. And it's good to see a top British player from a working-class background; for a long time tennis culture over here has been insufferably bourgeois.

I reckon Murray has a bit of a foul mouth... Bad luck Li Na.
Go Djokovic!!

Totally agree.

I still think Fed vs Nadal for the next couple of years, at least

Murray light years away :(          Well, a fair way behind the top 3 anyway
