Is it a disadvantage to not do physics?

I'm in year 11 next year and I'm thinking of taking a double degree in science and engineering in uni. However, I am not doing physics at all because I find it boring and dry. I looked at the prerequisites on different uni websites and most only need either Chem OR physics.

My subjects are English, Chem, methods, bio, psychology, accounting, and VET lab skills. Will the basic needed knowledge of physics be covered at uni? Is there a bridging course to do? Should I catch up and study on my own when the time comes? Am I in any disadvantage? What about spesh?

The physics content taught in VCE is much easier than the content taught in Univeristy, so you're not missing out on too much by not completing physics. I've also heard that you are just retaught the VCE physics knowledge again in University, so you are not at a disadvantage. As for Specialist Mathematics, if you chose to do it you would be taught a some amount of physics content (vectors, imaginary numbers etc.)  which means you would be at a head start in University. However, if you don't complete SMT, you will be taught all of the physics-based content in Uni anyway  ;D

Hi there! Welcome to ATAR Notes! Don't stress it too much. Like PolySquared said, the physics content in VCE isn't all that extensive. As far as I'm aware, there isn't a single course that specifically requires the completion of VCE Physics. There will be plenty of opportunities to catch up on anything you may need, and honestly it won't take you too long.

On  the other hand, you might want to consider taking specialist. Although I'm sure you could pick up the skills learned in this subject too, it will be significantly harder than doing the same for physics. From what I've heard, the first year of an engineering degree is made easier by having done spesh. That said, there are again pathways available to catch up on anything you've missed. However, if you like math, and don't really want to do a few catch up subjects first year of uni, I'd suggest you consider taking specialist. :)

My brother is doing environmental engineering and he did methods not specialist. He said in the first semester they effectively reteach methods and in the second semester they reteach specialist. So it’s definitly not neccessary if there’s something you would rather be doing, but it would make it a bit easier.
