Title: methods question
Post by: somethingeevee on February 21, 2021, 05:19:40 pm
hi guys!

will the sacs/exams require us to factorise the following (by hand, no cas):
- cubics
- difference of 2 cubes
- sum of 2 cubes
- basically anything other than the usual quadratic factorisation.

thanks  :)

Hi! Its best to double check with your teacher on this, as they might have different expectations for your SACs.

However, in general, you could be asked to factorise cubics without CAS. (By doing long division, and applying the factor theorem)
I really don't think they'd ever ask for the difference and sum of two cubes.

Factor theorem is useless most of the time because you usually end up with like 20 possibilities.

you're better off using synthetic division.
