Chapter 1: An Introduction

Good morning and happy new year to all of my fellow AN readers,

About time I created one of these, not just to document 2020 but also to reach out and get to know all you guys on the forums better. I’m officially in year 12 this year and have been on Atarnotes for the past 2 years (mostly hanging around the bio forum, a big thank you to all the users who have answered so many of my questions). And if you are wondering, yes, I am definitely the type of person that starts a journal on the 1st of January simply because it gives me some sort of aesthetic pleasure.

Subjects
So, my subjects, I figure I better do the generic thing and write them all down, with a little description if you feel like reading :)

Biology (2019): I adored biology last year, it was absolutely one of my favourite subjects. I was lucky enough to receive a study score of 50 (check out my guide here ). It really confirmed that my passion lies within the sciences. I particularly loved the immunology unit and learning about the adaptive immune response (which is just incredible! I still can’t get over how perfectly such a system is designed!). If you guys have any questions about how to study for bio or content questions, feel free to ask ;).

Chemistry: Chemistry is my favourite subject and I’m really hoping it will be my best next year. One of the reasons I enjoy chemistry so much is because it interweaves both application questions and content-based questions. Skill-wise, it is almost like a mix of bio and maths, both of which I’m fairly good at. Stoichiometry is also strangely satisfying.

English: I absolutely love reading, but such a love unfortunately does not transfer to writing english exams. However, I believe myself to be relatively competent in constructing fluent essays, I simply need to do way more practice under timed conditions. In fact, English ended up being one of my best exam results last year (2019 is officially a thing of the past!).

French: French is my hardest subject by far. It is challenging for me personally because it lacks one simple answer, unlike the majority of my other subjects. Nevertheless, I’m determined to prove myself wrong and hope to work really hand next year in French in order to achieve even a tiny bit of fluency in the language.

Methods: All through school I have always loved maths and been mostly top of my class. However, this year, I don’t really know what to expect, especially since my school isn’t particularly strong in mathematics. I’ll just give it my all and see where it takes me.

Specialist: I’m a little terrified of specialist, mostly because I know that it is highly competitive and also because I wasn’t accelerated or pushed to do better early on like many of those who are strong in mathematics. I also didn’t do Unit 1 and it’s hard to know if I’ve missed any important concepts. I guess all I can do is try my best (any tips for Specialist or French would be much appreciated).

Spare time
I adore gymnastics but don’t do it super competitively, I mostly do it for fun and because my life wouldn’t be the same without it. Plus, who wouldn’t want to have the ability to just flip on the grass every once in a while? Gym is a fantastic way to relax and forget about the stresses of school. I also love Doctor Who (10 is the best, 11 is a close second. The Ponds are my favourite, but I will never forget Rose or Donna), reading (fantasy and sci-fi mostly, but I can appreciate a good classic) and walking. I’m an earlier riser (always up at 6am), I play the violin and am in multiple school bands. I also work at a cafe.

Goals and Ambitions
My goal for this year is to walk into my exams satisfied with the amount of effort I have put in throughout the year. Atarwise I’m aiming for a 99.00+ but I understand that circumstances can change and that it’s okay if this goal changes throughout the year too. I don’t really know exactly what I want to study in university, most likely biomedicine as I know that I’ll really enjoy the biology and chemistry focused subjects. But right now, I’m totally open and am not even near having a set pathway.

And thus, my journal commences.
I'd love to answer some questions to get to know you guys better!

Yay you made one! I can’t wait to join you on this journey and see how Year 12 treats us both. I like reading a lot to and it is a bit of a dame it doesn’t (completely) translate into writing essays perfectly.

Hey :)

I like reading sci fi & fantasy too, although at the same time I don't read much anymore so even though reading was a big part of my identity growing up it feels kinda weird referring to myself as a book worm or similar.

As someone with no gymnastics ability, I completely agree with "who wouldn't want to be able to just do a flip on the grass?" & - although this isn''t related to gymnastics - appreciate the aesthetic of starting a journey journal on 01/01/2020

Why biomedicine rather than science if you don't have a set path yet?

Haha thanks!

I think because I most likely will want to go into medicine, unless I change my mind, I'm open to doing science as well though   ;D. In all honesty I probably need to do a lot more research before I decide whether to do biomed or science. But a lot of my friends do biomedicine and really enjoy it so I suppose I've been exposed to how the course works through them :) :).

Welcome to this section of the forums - I hope you enjoy your stay :) (also, I appreciate you starting this on the first day of the year)

Congrats on the 50 in bio! That is such a wonderfull achievement :D
By the end of this year, what science do you think will be your favourite, bio or chem?

Heeeeyyyy, another book lover! I'm more of a non-fiction kinda gal - I love me some Stephen Hawking, Michio Kaku, etc. :) There was this fantasy series I read a couple years ago that I absolutely Adored, and to this day it is still one of my all time favourites - Septimus Heap Wizard Apprentice by Angie Sage (highly recommend reading it if you haven't already). But I've never read sci-fi so maybe I'll have to get on to that.

Oh man, wouldn't a 99+ be a dream. I myself am aiming for a high ATAR (98+) - but I'm not thinking about it too much because I know I'll just end up stressing myself out (and I don't want to be too disappointed come December this year when I look at my results).

I'm excited to see where this journal goes! Good luck :)

Thanks so much! I actually have no idea which science will be my favourite, but I’ll let you know at the end of the year! Also it’s so cool that you read non-fiction books, that’s awesome and I’ll definitely take on your recommendation!

I’m more using my goal as motivation to study efficiently. As cliché as it sounds I’m always reminding myself that scores don’t actually mean much, what’s more important is what the subject has actually taught me about life and how much I’ve enjoyed it  ;D

Yay! You finally made a journal!!

I cant wait to see what this year brings for you!

Are you planning to work during Year 12? How do you find it? I was questioning getting a job for this year but kinda backed out last minute, am curious to see how you find it! Is it a good break from schoolwork?

Thank you! You too! Yep I'm planning to work in year 12, I usually only get 1-2 shifts a week which suits me. Sometimes it's a little stressful, but considering I've worked there for over a year now, I feel comfortable enough asking to have my shift covered if I really need to. I enjoy it and it's fantastic experience! It is a good break from school work, but it's not my only break (gymnastics is more of a mental break to because I literally never think about school at training, while at work, sweeping is the perfect time to reflect on what I have to get done later on in the day).

I think whether or not it's a good idea to have a job depends on your personal situation, how much you do outside of school as well as the type of job you have.  ;)

Hello Chocolatemikshake!
I'm so happy that you've started your own VCE Journal and am excited to follow along on your journey.

Same! I am so scared about Specialist sacs! I've looked at the VCAA exams and I can't relate to any of the questions. So much stuff to learn.
To check if you've missed any topics, you could always look at the Unit 1 dot points of the study design and see if they cross over in Units 3 4 so that you can focus on those topics and not worry about the ones that aren't even relevant in 3 4. To brush up on those unit 1 concepts, you could always practice those concepts in the 3 4 book if they have those topics.

That's so cool! I've always admired gymnasts because they look so calm and collected and graceful! It's inspiring especially when they do those crazy flips in the air. Can't wait to see gymnastics in the Olympics! Are you going to watch?

I admire you for achieving a raw 50 for biology but still keeping up with your job and all your extracurriculars. Truly inspiring.  ;D

It was nice meeting you. Looking forward to the next entry!

Thanks Evolio, particularly for your Specialist advice (nice to have a specialist buddy to struggle with this year  :-[) ! I'll definitely watch the Olympics this year. Also, while the gymnasts on TV look super calm, collected and graceful, 80% of the time at training someone is falling over  ;D

Hey Chocolatemilkshake!!! What's your favourite classic novel that you've read and your favourite author?

Mm that's a difficult one. I think I would have to go with The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. However, I definitely need to explore the genre more, maybe after year 12.

My favourite novel of all time has to be All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I read it in 2017 after finding it at an op shop when I went camping on a family trip. I literally remember reading for hours in the camper van. Incredible plot, composition and style, I would definitely recommend  :D.

YA-wise, I love Strange the Dreamer by Lani Taylor.

Not sure if I have a favourite author, I feel like that's way too tricky to decide.

Haha that was a lot, what about you?

The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens is such a beautiful book (so sad though).
I also really enjoy reading novels by Jackie French and novels in the form of diary entries.

Hi Chocolatemilkshake,
Congrats on your amazing score in bio! Would be interested in hearing your predictions and aspirations for your study scores this year.

Thank you Emily! See below  ;)

Chapter 2: So some January aims

Title speaks for itself I suppose. I’d like to be able to look back at the aims I had at the start of the year and see how close (or how very far away) I was to achieving them. To be honest, it’s hard to guess or predict what is achievable or not for me, as while I have a vague idea of the different cohorts, I’m not super sure where I fit in.

Chemistry
✩ Aim: 46 ✩
Chemistry is one of my favourite subjects so I really want to reach for the stars and see where it takes me. I have a little bit more confidence in Chemistry than my other subjects simply because the SAC structure and the weighting of the exam is the same as Biology. I also have the same teacher that I had for Bio last year, so I am familiar with her style of teaching.

English
✩ Aim: 45 ✩
Unfortunately this aim does not stem from a passion for the subject but mainly from a “it needs to be in my primary four :(.” All in all, I’m really hoping, that I get a motivating teacher who has good feedback and is okay to mark a lot of my practice essays. I actually really enjoyed reading the english texts I’m doing (especially Station Eleven) so hopefully this will also get me raring to go on the essay writing.

French:
✩ Aim: 36 ✩
And here comes french… I definitely need to continue to work on my grammar, listening skills and oral skills - essentially I need to get way better at everything. I’m scared that I’ll procrastinate French for my other subjects, as its homework is less structured and easier to ignore than something like maths. While I'd absolutely love in the 40s, I know in my heart that a 36 would still be a great achievement for me.

Methods:
✩ Aim: 45 ✩
I’m excited for methods, I’ll update you on how it’s going throughout the year (if I remember/have time). I have a feeling I’m going to make a few stupid mistakes on the exam.

Specialist:
✩ Aim: 40 ✩
I know this is probably impossible (well for me), but hopefully hard work and my decent maths foundation will aid me. I really enjoyed Unit 2 Specialist (scores ended up being better than methods). Either way, if I end up with high 30s in December this year I will still be very satisfied.

So who know where this shall lead? I will review my goals mid way through the year and make necessary changes depending on how I’m going. I go back to gym training soon which will be good (and sore!). Also. I’m kinda excited for school to go back again and to actually enter some hard core study. Especially getting lockers and homeroom classes, the start of the school term weirdly thrills me. Anyways, hope you are all enjoying January!

That's great that you have the same teacher! That's a good point. Although, even they are the same SAC structure, I am so scared for chemistry next year!  :-[ Everyone is saying that it's hard and I'm a really slow learner and looking at the  Heinmann textbook is giving me nervous breakdowns every now and then (because it's so thick!). Well, everyone says it's more fun than 1 2 so it should be enjoyable!

This happened to me on exam 1 and I felt terrible afterwards that the whole year had gone to waste. Everything I did meant nothing anymore. I think it would be a good idea to minimise silly mistakes earlier on so that your sacs don't suffer as well.

Glad I'm not the only one! The first day of school is always the most exciting because you meet all your teachers, get to know the class and just get everything set up and it just makes me more motivated for some reason lol.  :D

I look forward to more journal entries and have a great rest of the holidays!

Methods:
Aim: 45 ✩
I’m excited for methods, I’ll update you on how it’s going throughout the year (if I remember/have time). I have a feeling I’m going to make a few stupid mistakes on the exam.

Specialist:
✩ Aim: 40 ✩
I know this is probably impossible (well for me), but hopefully hard work and my decent maths foundation will aid me. I really enjoyed Unit 2 Specialist (scores ended up being better than methods). Either way, if I end up with high 30s in December this year I will still be very satisfied.

Hey Choco!
Great to see what you are aiming for this year! Good luck and I know you will do exceptionally well! ;D I'm so late to finding this awesome journal

Also. I’m kinda excited for school to go back again and to actually enter some hard core study. Especially getting lockers and homeroom classes, the start of the school term weirdly thrills me. Anyways, hope you are all enjoying January!

Don't worry, you are not the only one who is ready to school again ;D. The very start of the school year (including the beautiful stationery shopping for new stuff) is a super weird feeling but I totally get you. Enjoy the rest of your holidays before it disappears :)

It's awesome to see that you are aiming high!
Chem is such a great subject, so its nice to see another person who is not only aiming high but looking forward to it. I am hoping that some of the bio will help out a little too. Is there any part that you are looking forward to? Unit 4 sounds the most interesting to me.

Good luck for year 12, I wish I had the same enthusiasm when it comes to starting, but I might just find my motivation later.
Super glad that you are enjoying your English texts!

I look forward to more journal entries and have a great rest of the holidays!
 ;D ;D
Thanks for the advice Evolio, but those silly errors just like to creep into my exams. Also, can totally relate to feeling super organised and motivated the first few days of school (and then you reach week two ::))

Thank Geoo! Glad to have a chem buddy too  ;D Not really sure what I'm going to like best, I'll let you know later in the year. Also, luckily you have three more weeks to find that motivation and start the year running (let me know if you ever need to borrow some of mine  ;)).

Just checking in to ask how has the start of the school year been for you? Have you been up to anything exciting recently?

How have your subjects been and what are you enjoying at the moment? :D (Hope to see an update soon! ;))

Hey Ash, aw so sweet thanks for checking up on me! I honestly have wanted to update this for AGES, but have been so busy and just haven't had the chance. Finally though, here it is the much needed, very late update.

Chapter 3: Week one done
12/02/20

Hey guys, here I am again :) Year 12 has been pretty good so far. My timetable is fantastic as I never have more than three proper classes per day! I’m getting used to lugging my bag around again and everything. Also, loving being the oldest year level, having a mini kitchen and all. Yesterday I also got awarded my dux for bio last year, but the assembly was super long (although interesting to see some of the old year 12s come back).

Today we go on camp which is nice cause I won't get anymore homework till Monday. Now, here are some MUCh needed subject updates...

Chemistry
I’ve pretty much finished AOS 1 of Chemistry and will start AOS 2 soon. To be honest, this means in class I feel super unproductive and slow :(. Our first SAC is now less than a month away (**stress**), but it’s not even going to be on gases, only on fuels and stoichiochemistry. Anyway, this subject is still definitely holding out as my favourite, it’s so interesting and I love it, even if the class is slow. Anyone have any good places to derive some practice questions from?

English
English is A okay I suppose. Writing creative pieces is surprisingly fun and I’m so happy that I got a good teacher! The sad thing is that I’m not with many of my friends, especially this one friend who is really really strong in english (she’s doing literature as well so... wow). I've been with her the last two years and it was fantastic because we could share ideas and everything. Now I don’t have anyone to exchange ideas or feedback with in class and this is a little disappointing :(. All in all, I just really hope I can smash this creative.

French:
Ahh don’t even talk to me about this subject, it's just too hard. Oral SAC is emerging way to quickly for my liking.

Methods:
Methods is cool but I really want to start working ahead of my class. They gave us a practice test for chap 1/2 and it was SO easy. It kinda sucks that my school is so bad at maths. I need to lift my game and start whipping through some exercises.

Specialist:
I like the Specialist class because it’s so small (only 6 of us)! But the problems take me forever compared to methods. Our class just did a small test on vectors and now we've just started Trig functions in class, (reciprocal functions take FoRever to draw). Also I just realised how competitive this subject is, wow, some people are actually incredible.

On a side note — I stacked at training a few days ago and it was the best (I mean full on face planted from two metres up into the mat). I watched it on the replay but was devastated that we didn’t catch it on film. Comps start soon which is nerve racking considering I have like zero of the skill requirements.

Well that’s it from me. I will definitely try and update this more often from now on (maybe every fortnight).

Andnndnd I’m out ... ✩ CM ✩

Chapter 4: Let's appreciate this moment: I haven't yet had any SACs
22/02/20

Salut and welcome to my journal if you have never been here before! Another update from me because I may be procrastinating plus you guys are awesome, so why not? Not particularly interesting but read on if you feel like it.

Chemistry
This subject has been too slow for my likely recently. We keep missing lessons (swimming carnival, camp, etc) and I personally have not been doing nearly enough revision for the subject. It’s funny how the teacher and class environment can have so much of an impact on how much you enjoy a subject. I’m going to try and smash some practice questions this weekend though (a challenge as preparing for english and french SACs take priority).

English
I have my creative writing SAC in 1.5 weeks, which is nerve wracking because it’s my first SAC for the year but also not too stressful as we do receive the prompt beforehand. We are writing out creative on Like a House on Fire, and Cate Kennedy (the author) is coming in to speak to us which should be interesting. Her short stories don’t particularly interest me as I find them hard to relate to sometimes, although I surprisingly do enjoy trying to write creative pieces in her style.

French:
My french oral is WAY to close for my liking. We have to convince our teacher, who is pretending to be our mother, that we are allowed to attend a concert on a weekday. I’ll let you know how I go, send me some luck. I think an oral, for me personally, is more daunting than say, a chemistry SAC, as you only have 3-4 minutes to prove to your teacher that you can ace french (stuff up for 30 seconds and it’s all over :(). Then again, there are positives too ( i.e, it’s only 3-4 minutes and does not require 80 minutes of concentration). I’ve volunteered to go first in my class, as this will give me two entire periods to do other homework and I won't have to stress for so long like everyone else.

Methods:
It’s weird not having any SACs till term two. I’m up to date in class but I can’t tell if I am enjoying this subject yet or not.

Specialist:
We had a mini test and I got 88% which I’m pretty happy with (especially since I made some stupid silly mistakes, so at least I knew what I was doing). Then again it was relatively easy and I feel like I really need to lift my standard if I want to feel comfortable in specialist. Our class is just finishing up circular functions.

See ya and thanks for taking the time to listen to my somewhat generic life. Shall update again soon (probably after my english and french SACs so I can let you know how I felt I went). Also, my first competition is the weekend before both of my SACs which kind of sucks a little bit, especially since I have to travel quite a while away for it (any tips on how to be productive in a car?).

:) :) Have a fantastic week everyone :) :)

Did you enjoy like a house of fire? I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, and I have heard mixed things and I was wondering what you thoughts are.

Haha it IS scary. I didn't mind Like a House on Fire but I'm not really a short story reader and many of her stories are hard to relate to (for me personally). Some of the stories are better than others. Good luck reading it though!

Chapter 5: Not feeling too bad
11/03/20

Hey AN,
Thought it was about time I did another update, how has everyone been? Honestly, this term has gone so quickly, I can’t believe holidays are so soon. Today, I officially finished my last SAC of term one EVER and thus have finished (and survived) all first three SACs (English, French and Chemistry). Three down 19 to go :))

CHEMISTRY SAC
This is probably the one I’m most disappointed with (did it today), both with my performance and how the actual sac was written. Not only did our entire chemistry class feel very underprepared, the sac tested content that was very VERY loosely on the study design, and wasn’t particularly broad. Furthermore, there were zero calculations involved and so much writing (honestly non-stop for 50 minutes). I KNOW that I’m probably going to lose marks for small stupid mistakes for having to rush answers and also due to fussy marking, which makes me even more disappointed. (If you are in my chemistry class at school, first, don’t judge this journal please, and second, what even WAS that SAC?) Anyway, I finished all the questions, did my best and I don’t think I could have done any more study that could have prepared me for such strange questions. Overall, at least it’s over. Now let's just hope I did better than I thought.

ENGLISH SAC
I’m definitely nervous for the score but I was really happy with my creative piece (that I did on Cate Kennedy’s anthology of short stories) as well as my written explanation. It was a little bit last minute but crossing my fingers
Spoiler
(please please be 90+ percent)
I’ll let you guys know when I get it back.

FRENCH SAC
I was most happy with my french oral (very surprising), which was last week. The questions she asked were pretty simple and I made very few grammatical errors (rare for me). In fact, relistening to my oral I feel even more confident with how I did. All in all, pretty satisfied.

Methods/Specialist
Not much happening, the content we are covering in methods is relatively basic, I just have to start working more ahead of my class. Finding specialist quite difficult but hopefully I can put some more work in this weekend and gain even a tiny bit of confidence (questions take me FOREVER, I'm not really used to having to put so much work into simply understanding the content of a subject).

I’m also in the middle of comp season at the moment, which means I’m only just staying on top of school work (as competitions are usually a full day thing, especially when they are long drives away).

Thanks for reading everyone! If you guys have any random questions for me to answer I'd be game considering I don't have too much planned for tonight  ;D ;D

**Mini Update**
20/03/20

Curious to know who is now doing online learning instead of going into school? Next week my school is going to online learning but the Year 12s are required to come to class still, which I think is a good initiative (but that also means I have to watch my sister get to do homework in bed while I have to catch the bus to school) :( The school is going to feel so empty!

Anyone else studying Station Eleven? The irony! It's about a flu pandemic that wipes out most of the world. In fact, there is one scene where a character gets seven shopping trolleys full of items. It makes me laugh a little.

That's pretty much it! Unfortunately competitions have been cancelled, but I landed a new skill on floor yesterday which was super exciting. Also, I still haven't received any SAC marks back.

Haha, yes I would be totally jealous of my sister if she were doing that. They haven't gone online at her school yet so she still has to go. I have been online for years, so to me it is really interesting seeing other students experiencing online learning.

Bummer about competitions, hopefully they will start up again later this year though. I think most sports have been canceled around the state, are you still practicing?

Enjoy the last week before the holidays!

Hi Geoo, thanks for the reply! It's super cool that online learning works for you and that you are used to it during these bizarre times (you'll be offering us all tips ;)). Have a fantastic holidays  8)

Also, obviously no training anymore which is really disappointing but I know that literally every sporting club in the state is in the same situation. It's so abrupt, as I went from fully expecting training today (and school tomorrow), to literally having nothing on for three weeks (this is what it feels like to go to a private school with three weeks of holidays) and the uncertainty about whether school will open again. Luckily I was able to take a floor bar home so I can continue some light strength programs and handstands at home but really, it's impossible to do anything without equipment.

OMG ME!! Its crazy how St John Mandel describes what a panic-stricken world looks like is what we are seeing now. This is what my English teachers sent out today:
"Dear students,
Further to this morning's brief consideration of our designated Term 2 text, Station Eleven, please be advised that we will proceed with the study of this novel. We are aware, given the current circumstances, that such a novel may present genuine concerns for students regarding its content however we are acting on both advice received from DET and our own professional judgement. Please be assured that both Mrs M and I will- as always- teach the subject matter with sensitivity and within a framework that allows for robust discussion and creative responses.
We look forward to working with each of you throughout this challenging time and supporting your studies as best we can."

How's French going CM? What was topic was your Oral based on? Do you reckon that a role play would be harder than just a conversation?
Bonjour Snow Leopard, thanks for checking in  ;D

At the moment, French is okay but still insanely challenging (like all languages - I can't believe you do more than one ah). I just really need to start getting on top of grammar, listening and reading (essentially become better at everything). My oral was a role play where the teacher pretended to be my mum and I had to convince her I was allowed to go to a concert (the night before a test). I think that doing a role play was actually easier than a conversation (well at least a bit less nerve racking) because you could literally make up anything you wanted to argue your point. Plus I am great at arguing and am quite defensive of my position in an argument, so that was pretty fun!

I would never have the courage to go first by choice.
Haha the only reason I went first is because it's almost less stressful as you don't have the pressure of those going before you (and in the past I often have gone first for orals). Unfortunately I still haven't received any SAC marks back though, including the french oral (hopefully we will be sent our results soon).

\Yeah, same!!!How does your teacher teach your class? For my LOTE 3/4, we have a booklet and our teacher has also taught us to do summaries, brainstorms etc. Out of curiosity, what grammar did you cover in 1/2 French?
Oh, for my LOTE 3/4, this will be our last SAC for Unit 3 and I feel like it's gonna be harder than a conversation. Were you given the topic in advance?

Our teacher gives us a number of different activities relating to a specific topic we are studying (en ce moment, nous sommes en traîn de faire l'ennvironnement). To be honest, our grammar as a whole class really sucks (in 1/2 we covered subjunctive, future and conditional tenses, past participle/present participle, etc). Yes we were given the topic in advance.

And is it just me or did you find it really hard to do well in Unit 1/2 LOTE Exams. There's so many different sections and the grammar part...Do you try to memorise grammar as you learn it? Also, have you done your general conversation script yet? I still haven't, like I'm actually gonna fail the oral exam if I don't get a move on with it

Yes my French exam was my worst out of all my ones in year 11 (86%) and I found it quite challenging. We do three sections (no grammar section) so it replicates the year 12 exam. Yes I try and memorise grammar but I really haven't done as much I would have liked. And nope I haven't started by general conversation script, it is difficult having 5 subjects at once and knowing when to prioritise certain elements of each subject. And I'm sure you won't fail the end of year oral!

And also like how do you feel about learning French via remote learning if necessary in the near future? I'm not a native speaker in either of the LOTE's that I do and don't know anyone that fluent in these LOTES apart from like my classmates and teacher.
In regards to doing 2 LOTES, it's not so bad. The only problem is for my LOTE 1/2, we're so behind other schools and all of my peers are legit only doing it for bonus points. Like as in we all still need to memorise the present tense.

To be honest, our french class is really not that good either and is definitely behind other schools (as in our study score average will be somewhere in the mid-twenties) and like your class, a lot of kids are doing it for the scaling. It's a fun class and the people are lovely but just not super fantastic at french, unfortunately. So I'm not too stressed about working on french at home, as long as I can still chat to my french teacher online and practice with a few other girls in my class who are at my standard.  8)

Chapter 6: All Online
17/04/20

It has been too long! At the moment I'm just really missing training, I miss the jolting of my body and that good feeling after exercising. Not that I’m not excising, I’m trying to do strength programs and I walk everyday, but I miss the actual cool stuff and all my amazing friends. Online "zoom" strength sessions are not the same (and I'm still searching for my motivation as well...)

Chemistry
I love chemistry because I can teach myself the content and work through questions at my own pace. Unfortunately, I always end up neglecting the subject because I’m naturally pretty good at it and my other subjects (cough cough **french and spesh) take up SO much time. I really dislike the style of teaching in this class, so it’s actually way more productive online because the teacher just lets us work out our own pace. I'm lucky because I am able to work through the content myself and I feel bad for students who find this more difficult.

English
I love exploring the themes and ideas but hate the essay bit :( Online classes are actually quite productive! Our teacher splits us into smaller groups to work and then we discuss on google meet which is really effective (much better than discussing as a class where only me and two other students ever have anything to say haha).

French
I was really happy with my SAC score (95 percent  8)). I know I’m probably an average student in terms of the state cohort, given that it is quite competitive and all, and that my mark will scale down significantly. Despite this, I’m really proud of my score because I put a lot of work into it! I have an online SAC next week though which a little scary. I hate the idea of typing french and doing a “sac” in an entirely different format to what I’m used to.

Methods
Always not much to say about this. I need to start doing more practice questions and I always feel behind the state, because so many ANers learn way ahead. I mean, I’m a little ahead of my class but this subject really doesn’t receive the attention it deserves.

Specialist
I love complex numbers! They are so much better than circular functions which literally took me ages to finish! I think I need to lower my expectations for this subject though, ultimately I’d be really happy to hit a 35 at the end of the year.

Overall, this weird online learning style is strange. I think the worse thing is I always feel guilty for relaxing and I think I procrastinate more. I’m the type of person that works way better when I have a jam packed schedule and in isolation, I’ve gained 25 hours of “nothing” time where I’d usually be doing extracurricular activities or travelling to school.

Anyway, hope your online learning experiences are going well

EDIT: also Vic Champs would have been today so that makes me a little sad

24/04/20

I had my first online sac today for French and I really feel like I failed. Like I missed so much of the listening, made stupid grammatical errors and ran out of time. Does anyone ever feel like this after a sac? Tossing between one attitude where it’s like ‘it doesn’t mean anything, it’s only one sac’ but on the other I’m beating myself up, even though I know I did my best under the conditions.

Anyways, it was so hard to take it seriously at home and I hated turning my bedroom into a place where I had to do a test. The worst thing is that I still HAVE the sac because we had to scan it in. It’s still in the same room as me, the mistakes blaring and I can’t even throw it away.

Positives; it’s the weekend and I have a sac free week. Also, I’m going to read a book

Hey Chocolatemilkshake.

This is really cliche but...
It's okay. You still do have other SACs like you said. The SAC's finished and you can relax now! You've done the ultimate best you can which you should be really proud of, even if it's really hard to feel that way now!
And yes, I've had that horrendous feeling after SACs that I failed and it was horrible but we can turn this into a learning experience for next time and hopefully it goes better!

Oo, by the way, which book are you reading?

I 100% get you and I'm sure you're going to do just fine, I just know you will. I had my lab prac based chem SAC with second hand results a week ago, and it was one of the worst SACs I think I had ever done, due to how confusing the instructions were, and what was being asked. So you're not alone! I felt the exact way after my SAC. I am kind of beating myself up for it, feeling pretty down about my performance, but what's keeping me going is that it is only one SAC and that it is over now. It can be a pretty hard mindset to get into, but try to be happy that you did do your best at the time, you should be proud of yourself and that now it's done and dusted.
Enjoy your weekend! What book are you going to read?

Hey CM,

It's okay to make mistakes, and it's more than okay to feel shitty about SAC's and the way you performed. I truly believe that failing is the key to success as it truly helps you learn from your mistakes. You did your absolute best and that is all you can ever ask for, ESPECIALLY as this new learning environment is strange and unfamiliar and really difficult. I had a 5-hour maths sac this week and it was really hard and I know for a fact I'm not gonna do well, I missed the second part of a question (there was like 30 extended response questions) and I didn't realise until the time was up, oop. I'm proud that you did you best in these difficult circumstances.

Sending you positive vibes ♡

Thank you guys so much! Might be cliche but your support is really helpful and puts things into perspective :)

I'm going to read The Knife of Never Letting go by Patrick Ness. I read it at the start of last year (wow that feels like a long time ago) and I really loved it because it's so different to anything I have read before and explores some great themes! I would definitely recommend it although I do feel like it's a book which you will either love and appreciate or really dislike.

Hey Choco! ;D

Give yourself a pat on the back for getting the task done. It's alright to make mistakes and I can totally sympathise with you and making silly mistakes. Making mistakes is a good thing because it means there are things we can change! You did your best and that is all that matters (the online sacs are really hard and we are all in this together).💕
It is alright to feel down and all after assessments but I'm 100% positive you will be fine.💕
Take care of yourself and relax this weekend!

Hi CM! Looks like I’m a bit late to the party, but I agree with everything that’s been said above. I know how it feels when you know the performance you gave wasn’t reflective of your abilities - but it happens to all of us and that’s okay. What matters is that you acknowledge that maybe you didn’t do as well as you could have, but you gave your very best and that’s all that matters! Making silly mistakes sucks, but it’s okay if it happens.

Enjoy the book! ;D

Chapter 7: hi just an update
04/05/20

First of all, thanks so much for the above comments and support from the 2020 gang. You guys are the best mostly anonymous online friends I could ever have haha :)

Anyway, it’s funny how I have so much more time, but it feels like I have less time. I’m definitely struggling a bit with the routine after for the last 5 years having so many different outlets from school. Now school feels like the only thing I’m doing and it's difficult to stay productive when the line between working and relaxing blurs.

Chemistry
Just got my chemistry mark back today and I’m so happy! It’s a way better mark than I was expecting and really sets me up for the next SAC (which is not until late this term). At the moment, this subject is pretty chill. I’ve finished covering unit 3 by myself, but we haven’t even gotten to electrolysis yet as a class, so I tend to just work at my own pace. I feel like chemistry is the only subject that hasn’t gone wrong and I wish I could spend all my time on it (but I sadly have 4 other subjects that are all harder to worry about).

English
My love-hate relationship with english grows everyday. I’ve been writing so much english lately just to try and stay on top of the huge amount of work our teacher sets, yet every essay takes so much energy. I literally have to tie myself to my chair to even start writing, otherwise it will never get done. Sometimes I feel like all these hours are just a waste and I still will fail, simply because the work I put it is never enough and I will never be able to write well under pressure. Also, upcoming sac in 2 weeks (I only just realised how SOON it was). I’m terrified because text response is terrifying and they haven't given us too much information on how it will work at home (another home sac, ergh)

French
So I’ve moved on from that kind of dodgy SAC, and am trying not to think to hard of how badly I did (the thing is, it is out of 15 marks, so every mark that disappears lowers the score dramatically). Luckily, next is writing, which I really enjoy! Because this is the only subject I’ve done two sacs for, at least I can relax a little bit. It releases a bit of the pressure knowing it can be in my bottom two.

Specialist
SAC is in two weeks and I really need to lift my studying game. It’s worth 22% which is crazy! Also, it’s so much more challenging than my other subjects (if anyone has any tips on how to approach a 5 hour SAC, much appreciated!) At least we’ve finished the content for the SAC now (although are continuing to learn new content at the same time).

So that’s about it. Two weeks quiet before the storm of SACs smashes me over. Sometimes, it honestly doesn’t feel real that I’m in year 12. Next year, I (or we if you are in yr 12 too) will have finished school   ???

Not much else to update really. I've been walking a lot and trying but failing to maintain my strength. Finished re-reading Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness which was fantastic (really looking forward to the movie next year) and looking for any book recommendations (I like sci-fi, fantasy, dystopian but am pretty open to reading anything with a good plot, character development and exploration of themes).

Spoiler
Also a side note: I have realised how much I MISS biology (I mean you don't miss something till you don't have it do you?) Now I 100% know that this is the subject I want to pursue and it really sucks having to spend an entire year studying all these other subjects that are not my true passion (except chemistry, which is a close second to bio I suppose). Anyway, just a thought of the day and I'm really looking forward to finishing high school so that I can go into university level depth into this incredible subject

If you read to the end, thanks for sticking by!

Yes yes yes omg! I relate to this on a whole new level. No matter how much I study, it's never enough because either way I'm consistently behind and there's always something I haven't done/studied. And I feel you with taking breaks - honestly doesn't feel like a break and it feels like I'm studying a lot haha.

Congrats! :D That's really good, and I'm glad you find solace in chem (it's a pretty cool subject). I will forever be mad at VCAA for taking all the really cool organic chemistry stuff out of the study design though (you suck VCAA, I was really looking forward to learning about that stuff).

My love-hate relationship with english grows everyday. I’ve been writing so much english lately just to try and stay on top of the huge amount of work our teacher sets, yet every essay takes so much energy. Are you me? Are we the same person? Because I really feel you on this one. Every day my hate (AND love) for English grows and manifests itself in my frustration and inability to produce a great essay within an hour. And that's IF I decide to sit down and write an essay...

Sometimes, it honestly doesn’t feel real that I’m in year 12. Next year, I (or we if you are in yr 12 too) will have finished school   ???
Sometimes I still feel like I'm in primary school haha. Not ready to enter the adult life at all... I love being a kid (or something like a kid). Can't believe we will have finished school by next year!

This sounds exactly like me with psych. (I have thereby concluded we are the same person). I can't wait to learn a bit more about the human psyche in uni too! I miss it, and honestly helping all my friends that also do the subject gives me joy (that sounds like a really nerdy thing to say but it's true).

Okay now this is a mood. I did methods last year (can't say I liked it that much but I def didnt hate it) - but I actually MISS it now! I'm so glad that I did spec now, and doing diff in spec actually made me feel nostalgic to methods last year (lol). Well at least next you will be able to truly fall into your passion and do bio again!

This strange year has almost made me forget I'm in year 12 as we havent had real life school - but its so crazy to think this! I still feel so so young inside ah ha.

Anyway, awesome to see an update Choco and cant wait for another one! Hope you have an awesome week  ;D

How's methods and french going for you? I am in y11 doing methods 3/4 and french 1/2 and I would love some advice esp for french haha. When is/are your methods SACs? I am super scared as mine are this week and next week and are worth 22%. French is super chill at the moment but I feel like I don't put enough effort in. How much extra French study do you do a week!

Ok, seriously, I think we are fragmented pieces from the same person or something cause this is something that I can relate too spiritually🤣. (English in one word is just = No)

Congrats on the amazing score in your Chem SAC!! Give yourself a pat on the back and go CELEBRATE ;D.

Me too whys  >:( It was going to be great and crossing off all that from the study design broke my heart a little.

Yep, that's right we MUST be fragments of the same person, split and divided up among different schools (mm THAT must be why I feel so proud when you guys ace sacs  ;D) And yes, english in one word IS No. I will forever be jealous of some of my friends who do both english and literature and are smashing it  ;D

This sounds exactly like me with psych. (I have thereby concluded we are the same person). I can't wait to learn a bit more about the human psyche in uni too! I'm so nervous that I'm literally not going to know anything but thank you for the seed of confidence! Can't wait to hear how your SAC goes, I'm sure you'll do fantastic! Have an awesome week too Arty thanks for the reply  8)

Hi eloise, methods is going okay. Unfortunately, I barely have any time to spend on it at the moment after spending so much time doing spec, english and french. At the moment, I'm really just completing set exercises in class (which are super easy and take me hardly any time) rather than doing exam practice questions (I wish my school had let me take this subject early!) My SAC is not for another month though. Good luck for yours! I'm sure you'll do fantastic (I remember doing 3/4 SACs in Yr 11 and they were terrifying, so all the best!)

Sorry for the bad french grammar (haunts me forever). Essentially my aim in french is pretty low (I'd honestly be happy with a 30 but hopefully I can hit 35) so my advice is not too great :) Anyway, enjoy French, it is a pretty awesome subject, and try to stay consistent with practice.

THANK YOU J_Rho. Sure I can do this coming Monday if you want? I probably can't commit to regular days though, due to SACs and when life goes back, I'll be pretty busy  8)

I listen to SBS french and coffee break french on podcasts. For music, I like a variety of different artists including Lou, Angèle and Zaz. In terms of films, I mainly watch cartoons in french that I've seen before in english. Mostly because then I can still understand what is going on without any subtitles and really improve my listening skills.

Chapter 8: a little frustrated but happy that there’s a plan
14/05/20

I know, is this two updates only 10 days apart? (The days go so slow yet so quick, it’s a very strange feeling). I’m a little stressed at the moment because due to the new plan to get year 12s back on the 26th (which I’m really excited about) a lot of my SACs have been pushed back. I like this because it means we get to do them at school, however, it also means I have three sacs in the space of 20 hours. Also, french and spec on the same day, make me sad :(

Chemistry
I’ve been tutoring my friends in chemistry and I think it’s really helping me learn the content! Our AOS 2 SAC is ages away so this subject is the least stressful (although maybe more stressful in the fact that I have really high expectations for it).

English
I’m really annoyed, because our english SAC got pushed back 2 entire weeks! It’s been on my mind for so long and I was really looking forward to getting it over and done with. Also, the weirdest thing is that they are allowing us to use our notes. I feel like this is more of a disadvantage to me because some people will do significantly better with access to quotes, etc, but I’m not used to using english notes to help me. It’s a very strange. Other than that, I’m definitely proud of the consistency I’ve kept up in writing essays. If anyone has some free time and enjoys marking essays I’d love some feedback on them (I’m doing Station Eleven) :)

French
Next SAC is soon but it’s a writing task so I’m not too worried (at least I can’t fully stuff it up like I did with the listening  ::)). I have been trying to listen to french news every day! I’m starting to enjoy this subject more and really appreciate how learning another language is changing how I perceive my own language. Still haven’t received french SAC marks (dreading but also at the same time, I just want to get it over and done with).

Specialist
The way we are doing the SAC is very strange, we have to do a poster (well, three posters) and I just don’t know how I feel about it. Also, it's not at all under test conditions, we just have to submit it at a certain time. In class, we just finished integration, which was not too bad. Sometimes I just want to give up on this subject because it feels too hard.

Methods
This class is so slow and the teacher never does any interesting questions. I need to start doing more for this subject (gosh, pretty sure I say this every update and then never do anything to change my habits).

Well, that's about it. Are you guys all looking forward to going back to school? Have a great Thursday, Friday and weekend AN.

CM

I feel the same, the week goes by so slowly yet super fast at the same time, weird.

Good luck, I can't believe they would space everything so closely, but I know you will do great, even if the spesh SAC is a bit odd with the posters. I personally like to think the teachers are somehow conspiring in the staff room of SAC torture methods for their students, but who knows what they get up too.

Yes! Honestly, I feel like most subject pressure just comes from wanting to do well. That's awesome that can tutoring is helping you learn the content, I feel the exact same. I don't have anyone to teach it too, although I do annoy my family with random chem knowledge....

Anyway, good luck with your upcoming SACs, i'm sure you'll do great! Enjoy your last week and a bit of remote learning!

That's interesting...at least it's not under test conditions and it's not time-limited. HAHA, ME. I've been feeling like that a lot lately about Spec. Some of the concepts questions are insanely hard, aren't they? I keep questioning myself, 'why, why, why did I pick this subject?'. But seriously though, I know you can push through! You can do it!!  :D By the way, which topic is your favourite in Spec (that you've covered so far)?  :D

Good luck with your upcoming SACs and have a great rest of the week!!  ;D

Literally some of the two hardest subjects on one day... :'(
HOWEVER, I know 100% that you will be AMAZING and smash those two subjects out of the park. 8) It already sounds like painful to do one of those subject's SACs, let alone both on the same day sounds like absolute chaos. The poster SAC sounds a bit interesting? Let us know how it goes!

Thank you for keeping us updated Choco and massive good luck to the upcoming SACs you have soon! Hope you enjoy the rest of the week before we get back to school soon. ;D

Thank you Geoo! Your confidence gives me confidence  :)  Yeah, it's a little bit annoying but the term will be over soon! Haha, methods, what a subject (I shall be studying for methods in the two days after my spec french and english sacs oops). Good luck for methods though, you can DO IT!!!

Gosh I can relate! At the start of the year we were filling up at the petrol station and I was trying to explain to them all the different types of fuels and where they come from. They weren't too happy about it after the first 3 minutes...

All the best with your SACs too and thanks for your constant support! Enjoy your remote learning (for the rest of the year  8))

That's a relatable mood, essays really drain my energy. You definitely would not want my not-at-all-english-inclinded brain, but here's some of the motivation ✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩✩, you CAN DO IT!!!

Good luck with your upcoming SACs and have a great rest of the week!!  ;D
True, it's very strange. Thanks for the encouragement though (You can do it too, in fact, you'll smash it!) (yes, why why why did I pick this subject?, I could have chosen HHD or psych but NO, something in my brain said "do two maths, it'll be fun")
I think my favourite topics are complex numbers and integration (I actually understand them and they make me feel super smart) and I even enjoyed differentiation! Vectors aren't too hard (except proofs which are  :() but I really dislike circular functions.
Good luck for your SACs too Evolio and thanks for the reply. Have an awesome week and weekend.

Hey hey Choco!
I honestly love it when you update frequently💖
Literally some of the two hardest subjects on one day... :'(
HOWEVER, I know 100% that you will be AMAZING and smash those two subjects out of the park. 8) It already sounds like painful to do one of those subject's SACs, let alone both on the same day sounds like absolute chaos. The poster SAC sounds a bit interesting? Let us know how it goes!
Aww really? Wow that makes me so happy (same with you journal, every time I see it on recent posts I get excited) ;D ;D Thank you, I'll let you know how the posters go once I finish them, it'll be really interesting given our whole class is kind of left in the dark (although the spec sac on the day of french is a timed conditions "test-like" one and not the poster. Then they combine the poster and test together for a final mark).

Thanks for checking in Ash, hope you enjoy the rest of the week too and good luck with everything as well! Your support and reply means a lot  8)

Hey chocolatemilkshake,
Great work with that listening practice! Also, congrats your amazing 95% in the speaking SAC. Any tips?

Thank you Snow Leopard! Honestly, mostly just a lot of practice with different questions and finding a balance between memorising and being spontaneous. Try to memorise a few sentences with good grammar that you wouldn't be able to quickly make up on the spot. But obviously don't try to memorise whole paragraphs, just the general gist of each question and a few phrases that will come in helpful. Also, record yourself! As much as I hate listening to my own voice, it's really helpful in picking up pronunciation issues. Finally, I'd suggest actively practicing pronunciation and asking your teacher to help you with any words you struggle with.

Chapter 9: some thoughts and midyear expectations
14/06/20

Hello my friends, how are you? Life has been pretty great at the moment, just finished a whole load of SACs (see below) and only have two left for this term (and one is the chemistry poster which shouldn’t be too tricky). This means I ONLY have 11 SACs left for the entire year  8)

It’s been a great week, I love being back at school and I’ve finally had the opportunity to catch up with groups of people I haven’t seen for months, so that has been fantastic! Haven’t received any SAC marks back for over two months though, so maybe there’s a correlation? Nah, I’m looking forward to seeing how I went on them and hopefully should get some back this week.

Also…I think I’ve realised that VCE isn’t everything and every SAC I go into I feel less stressed. I will always feel like I never put enough work in, but that’s okay and I'm slowly learning to accept that fact! For bio, I put in work weeks in advance for every SAC and months in advance for the exam (and I still didn't feel prepared). I know I’m not going to be able to do that for every subject, I simply don’t have the work ethic or time to put in that much effort. I guess all I can do is try my best and not be too disappointed whatever the result! Either way, I’m incredibly lucky that I’m confident I will get a place at the university course I want (biomed for anyone curious) and I don’t have to worry too much about not reaching the ATAR. I’m super grateful for this and it’s really put things in perspective. I just want to enjoy my school environment, enjoy the last few terms of being known by people and feeling comfortable (although at the same time, I’m definitely looking forward to next year).

I think some of my expectations may have been a little too high in January (oops) so my mid-year expectations/goals (watch them drop in November) are below

Expectations
Chemistry - 45
English - 44
French - 35
Methods - 42
Specialist - 35

SAC thoughts

Chemistry The Chemistry SAC went pretty well and I actually enjoyed doing it. Not much else to say here

English
Okay, english was the worst which was a little disheartening because I put the most work into it. I wrote so many practice essays (so many I’m not even going to even say). I mean, I don’t think my essay was horrible or anything but it definitely wasn’t the high standard, full mark essay I was looking for, which is okay! It’s in the past now and I’m certainly not too upset or anything and ready to (hopefully) smash argument analysis.

French
The writing task wasn’t too tricky and I’m pretty happy with how it went. I think my french is slowly (very slowly) improving which is making me more motivated to work at it. Surprisingly, this subject has really grown on me over the last few weeks.

Specialist
Application task is done! The posters took me forever and then we had a few tests at school which also contribute to the overall mark out of 50. To be honest, it wasn’t as bad as I expected, although I don’t want to predict the mark I’ll get because I honestly have no idea! I’m just proud that I got through it (it’s SPEC) and that I’m actually understanding the content.

Methods
Application task is also done and dusted. Not much to say about methods, I definitely don’t put enough work into this subject and it kind of gets LEFT in the dust. I think that's because I haven't learnt a single new thing in class this entire year! Our teacher just covers the basics and slowly too (I know that she has to do this because our cohort is relatively week in methods but it means that I do waste a lot of class time). Nevertheless, the SAC wasn’t too difficult and I’m okay with how I went. Although the difficulty of the SAC is also kind of worrying because without separator questions, its easy to make dumb mistakes that pull your ranking down.

Hope everyone has an awesome week! I’m really looking forward to holidays and starting up sport again, it should be good!

Hi Choco - so awesome to see an update!!

Honestly though, your mindset is so inspiring! Its awesome to see that you've found the balance with everything! It'll def pay off in the end.

Hey hey Choco!

I'm so happy to see a new update for your journal! ;D (Oh boi I got so excited to see your name pop-up)

Congrats for getting through most of your SACs and good luck for the two you have coming up. (We all know you are going to smash them 8)).

For Biomed, is there a certain uni that you wanted to study at Choco? I'm so glad to see that you have found something you would like to pursue and as Arty has already mentioned, you are super inspirational. (I'm not kidding there you really are).

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a great week! You can absolutely do this and I 100% believe in you ;D

Thank you! But your approach to VCE is JUST as inspiring and I'm loving the sincerity of your journal. Congrats on finishing the spec application task as well (only 1 to go ;D) Have the best week as well Arty

Hi Ash, thanks for stopping by  ;D I'm leaning towards Monash at the moment but am also considering Melbourne, it's just so hard to decide (especially because there are no physical open days this year!). I know the Melbourne campus a bit more (due to KLD) but I know a lot of people who have really enjoyed Biomed at Monash... guess we'll see!
Thank you for your words of encouragement (we all know if I do do well on the SACs it will be because of them). You are so inspirational too, honestly! (With one of the best journals around on AN).
Have the best week too and I know you'll smash any upcoming SACs!!

**Mini Update
25/06/20

Hey guys, So I got a few marks back recently and I'm absolutely stoked with...

Spoiler
A 30/30 for my text response! Because only 1 person in our year level gets awarded the top mark I was so happy! It was the best feeling. I also was really happy with my marks for spec, chemistry and french which I received all this week

Unfortunately this joy has been a little bit drowned by the argument analysis SAC I sat today. I just hate how I never walk out of an english SAC happy. Honestly, I misinterpreted the image and only managed 3 paragraphs (and really you need to do four to be scoring the top marks). I don't know why but I can't help but beat myself up about it, even though I know it wasn't horrible, just wasn't the best you know.
Plus to spend the WHOLE entire day stressing about it probably didn't help (and I'm a morning person and am most productive at 6am, so by the time it reaches 3:30pm for my SAC, my brain is pretty much dead). I suppose it's okay and I'm hoping I can still hit a 90%, but it still kind of sucks considering how much work I put into practices. (sorry for the rant)

Something that I haven't put on this journal yet is that I'm sitting the UCAT. I know a tonne of people are on the forums (which is a little intimidating might I say) and you have all done a tonne of preparation work. I simply haven't had the time (or the incredible motivation you guys have). I'll just be happy if I try my best on the day (note** I've done a little bit but not a massive amount of hours or anything). Whilst I'm very interested in medicine and have pretty much decided it's where I want to head, I don't mind doing biomedicine first and doing the graduate pathway. I feel there are benefits of both pathways, but figured I may as well give the UCAT a go. Definitely not expecting an incredible score or anything but thought I may as well add it in here :)

This week I've had the opportunity to go back to training (which has been incredible and really lightened my spirits). Also, today I got a paper cut and using hand sanitiser 24/7 was a pain (also we have to hand sanitise our feet at gym haha I mean feet sanitise).

I hope you all have the most amazing holidays!

OMG, Chocolatemilkshake, that is such an amazing score for your text response SAC! The highest mark, WOW! Congratulations! So happy for you!  ;D Good job on your other sacs as well!!

About the AA sac, don't worry about it. What's done is done which is easier said than done. But yeah, that feeling's the worst after a sac, when you feel you could've done better.

Same! About the UCAT! I'm always comparing myself to other people, who are well ahead in their preparation but hey, we can do this!! And all we can do is our best.

That's great that you've gone back to training!

I hope you have an amazing holidays as well, Chocolatemilkshake and a well deserved break!!  ;D

HOLY MOLY A 30/30 FOR ENGLISH, CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR SKILLS. :0

I'm so, so proud of you choco! You've tried your best for the AA SAC - and honestly, paragraph count shouldn't matter too much as long as they are good quality. Don't worry too much about it - it's over now and you can celebrate! With the UCAT, all we can do is try our best, and at the end of the day, the real competition is the one you have with yourself. Some people can prepare for months and months and still don't score that well me while some people already have those skills. Again, don't worry too much. At the end of the day, we can only do our best. <3

Have a wonderful holiday!

CHOCO! you absolute legend wow! please teach me how to text response... also i am sure that you did better on AA than you think, often i walk out of an aa practice sac really unhappy w/ it and my teacher loves it. english is so subjective!!!!!
i feel the UCAT thing - I definitely prefer UOM Biomed as I can do French as Breadth, but everyone seems to be pushing the UCAT (my careers counsellor especially...)
as other have mentioned, all you can do is your best (and considering that you seem to be incredible at everything you do, that's probably amazing!)
remember to rest up these holidays, you're absolutely smashing it this year <3

Thank you! You too Georgie. If you are more keen to go to UoM then I say go for it! Whilst careers counsellors can be helpful it should ultimately be up to you! At the moment, I’m still not too sure (Monash biomed VS Melbourne biomed course) but honestly I think either would work for me  8)

Chapter 10: an update on everything but school
25/07/20

Okay this was going to be a mini update but then I started writing and my thoughts just blurted all over the page, so enjoy if you can be bothered reading…

First and foremost I am a science student through and through. But recently I’ve had this realisation. All through high school maths has been my forte and with a relatively weak cohort (and a few super smart people chucked in here and there) it was easy to 100% every test, even last year in spec. Anyway my realisation is that I think...this is hard for me to say but….I think I’m more of an english student than maths(at the moment)!!!

Wait what? Yeah, I’m surprised too but at the same time I can’t believe I’m only just realising this. But there you go. I’m really loving picking apart and analysing my texts (The Penelopiad and Photograph 51 are great, I mean not quite the level of Station Eleven but still pretty enjoyable). Also I like how the subject allows for collaboration (and passionate arguments) and just generally the creativity in it. That said, in 5-6 weeks when my comparative comes around I might pick maths over english again.
On another english-related note I ordered some books from Dymocks and now I can't wait for them to arrive. Who doesn’t love the smell of books and the promise of a world free of covid and masks and all the boring life things.

Something else that was super exciting, now that I’m officially an adult, I gave blood for the first time! It was pretty awesome and it was amazing to see them suck 500mL of blood out of my body with so few side effects. Like super duper cool. Also, free food, I mean nothing really to complain about right? Can’t wait to find out my blood type soon (is it weird that I’m so excited for that?)

and something a little more deep if you feel like reading
Okay so a lot of people are aiming for medicine on AN (not surprising given that the majority of this site is full of high achieving students) and for this reason I think it's been hard to admit that I do want to get into medicine too. Honestly? I think I’m (ridiculously) scared of being judged by random people on the internet if (I mean when) I fail to get in. Is that weird? I mean it's easy to tell my friends and stuff at school because I'm literally the only one in my year level aiming for med, so at school not getting in doesn't feel like a failure but just a different path to success. But on the internet full of amazing and inspiring students who all seem to top everything, I guess...mm I don't know, feel like the effort I put in wasn't worth it if I don't make it? I know that's not true and that I should celebrate my VCE success even if I don't get in (or meet my study score goals) but I thought I’d chuck that out there. Sorry if that made absolutely no sense.

Also some of you migghghght be wondering so I was reasonably happy with my UCAT score too (not the best but it should be enough (just just just enough) to hopefully get an interview). Ultimately and to end on a positive note, whether it be medicine or biomedicine I can’t wait to be a uni student next year. I have loved school and I do love school and I love being known at school but at the same time I’m ready for a change (and to start studying primarily science. Man I miss bio so much!)

Anyway, hope you all are enjoying life right now. I miss training, church, employment and all my extracurriculars so much it hurts and the lack of stuff to do right now unfortunately makes me procrastinate more, but I’ll do my best to get through. Sometimes I feel so guilty for not working as hard as I want and need to achieve my goals, but what can you do. Scores aren’t everything, I know that but it’s just a little hard to see during isolation.

Should be back with a subject update in a couple weeks :) See ya and if you made at this far, good on you (I mean do people even read this  :o )

I think I know exactly what you mean (surprisingly). I LOVE Photograph 51 and The Penelopiad so much, but unlike you, I love it way better than my text response text. It’s so fun to analyse, and the discussion that precipitates is always quite a heated debate with everyone trying to get their point across but in the end it’s all a whole heap of fun and we all learn something new. I don’t know but for some weird reason I find comparative easier and more interesting than text response. Also, what books did you order? New books are everything, so perfect and so addictive.

Wow, that sounds great! And yeah, free food is the best. B) Congrats on being legal too, and good on you for donating blood.

Spoiler
Hey, I can definitely say that I won’t judge you, and I doubt AN will too. Even if people do judge you, don’t worry about them (haters will hate). It’s great you’re honest though and there’s nothing wrong with your aspirations AT ALL. From what I see, you’re an extremely intelligent, hard-working student (I mean, that 50 and Premiers in bio speaks for itself). I know it may seem intimidating, but don’t be intimidated! Even if you don’t achieve your goal, that’s totally okay - there are other viable pathways and it isn’t the be all end all. It’s also great you’re happy with your UCAT score, you should be extremely proud. :)

Anyways, if you take anything from this, let it be that you shouldn’t be afraid of people judging you and your goal is perfectly valid. You’ve got this!!!!

Please forgive any typos, I’m on my phone haha. Hope you have a wonderful Saturday night and Sunday!

I'm more of an English student than a maths student too (despite studying bio, chem, methods, psych, physics, and now doing advanced science in uni with a math minor ahaha). All fields need people who are good at communication and comprehension definitely including science and med :)

Good on you for donating blood! Definitely not weird to be excited to find out what your blood type is (and even if it was there would be nothing wrong with it) :)

re spoiler
Sometimes on AN people don't reach their goals from their journals but I don't recall a single time where people were judgemental about it rather than supportive. The focus then becomes about supporting that person through what's a really difficult thing for them and helping them figure out next steps. Whether you find your way to med directly, indirectly, or not at all there is nothing wrong with aiming for what you want. I've gone through phases of thinking I wasn't "that good" compared to people on AN my achievements didn't mean much but others have only ever supported me through that & I'm sure the same would be true for you.

It's common to have doubts and insecurities and there's nothing to apologise for with that :)

Hey Choco!!🍫🍫

I'm so happy to see an update from you and woah more of an English student? (I can see that happening especially with the way you described how you see your English texts!). Also congrats on giving blood for the first time! That's an achievement alone and finding out what your blood type is sure does sound exciting.

Spoiler
I totally understand what you mean by being judged by anonymous people for not getting into whatever you want to pursue. (I was literally going to say exactly what you said for my journal update too). As whys and Bri have already said, I think we would be more focused on supporting you and helping you figure out the next steps if things don't go as planned? (I mean, there probably will be a few people that are going to hate for no logical reason so best to ignore them). In the end, there is no such thing as the right or wrong way to get into something. Yes, some things will take more time than others, but in the end, no matter what pathway you take you will definitely get to the end goal!

Also, WHOOP WHOOP congrats on completing the UCAT!!!! I'm so glad to hear you did really well and that you are happy with your score!

Love your journal update Choco and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you in the future. Make the most of the rest of your weekend  ;D

Hi whys! Wow it's cool that we're doing the same texts and it's great you find comparative easier than text response. Anyway thanks you so much for your incredibly supportive response. Reading this made me feel so much better and reminded me to focus on working hard now rather than worrying too much what the future will bring. Thanks again for the reply (whenever I see you your Lion King gif around the forums it makes me smile  ;D)
Also I ordered some fantasy books from a series that I haven't read before so we'll see how they go!

Yes I agree communication is such an important skill. Also I suppose there are tonnes of different ways we use english in our lives and in the workplace (I suppose I've only just come to appreciate that now). Thanks for the reply Bri I appreciate this so much and it definitely makes me feel better. Also an update...I'm A positive!  8)

Hope your doing well with vce, I was wondering how you exactly balance your time between subjects?

I tend to do an equal amount of work across all my subjects except methods (because I don't really enjoy the class that much and I know that it will probably be one of my bottom two subjects). Obviously when SACs come up I prioritise certain subjects. Not sure what type of response you were looking for but if you have any more specific questions feel free to ask (or ask on the general forums to get some broader answers from other ANers)

Thank you this means so much ;D

**Very Mini Update
07/08/20
I had my last violin lesson ever yesterday (after 12 years of lessons) so it really feels like an ending! (I'll definitely still play although I suppose the incentive to practice is no longer as strong). Online learning is interesting and I don't really have much to say about it. I've set up a nice little desk area on my dining room table where I can work which is much better than it was last time (where I worked in my room). The pro of online learning this time is that we all know how to roll and the teachers are a lot more prepared.  Also, it's a lot easier to work with teachers one on one in class time.

Many of our SACs have been pushed back (so they can be mailed out to girls without a printer) which is quite annoying (not at all looking forward to doing them at home but what can you do?) Although I only have 7 SACs left for the year, so I'm not nearly as worried as I was the first time in online learning (especially since Unit 4 is worth less now). My french oral and english comparative will probably be done when (hopefully) we go back to school which is good.  Anyways that's it for the very mini update, have a great week everyone  8)

Chapter 11: Less than two months to go
04/10/20

Hi guys, I keep trying to sit down and finally I’m here again… so hello to everyone who has read from the start or reading from now :) Exam revision is underway and a little slow but I’m getting there. I’m actually really enjoying life right now (actually I miss everything so much) but it’s made me so grateful for all opportunities that I’ve had in the past (sport, school, etc). It’s that whole you don’t appreciate what you have until it’s gone concept. Yesterday I had a zoom dance class and that was super fun (note: I'm not actually a dancer but at gymnastics we do a bit of ballet and contemporary (I think, actually not too sure what it is) because it's really good for posture and I really enjoy it).

I think the biggest shock in March was a lack of structure in my life but now I structure my day with an early lunch at 11:30 (because I get bored of studying and because who doesn’t like a super early lunch) and then with an early arvo walk at around 1:30, which is nice. I’ve been on a few picnics with my friends too (and the magpies kept trying to attack me and take my jam donut which was a terrifying experience because, for anyone that doesn’t know, I’m terrified of birds. And yes that was a little bit of an exaggeration…). Okay, moving on to some actual school stuff.

Chemistry
If there is one subject that I’m confident in, it’s this one and if I’m honest I will be disappointed with anything less than a 45. I’ve done quite a few practice exams so far so hopefully that coupled with some hardcore revision will get me through. In fact, it’s an absolute relief to sit down and do a chem exam after struggling through spec or english. I’m glad that I have at least one subject I feel mildly confident in.

English
Yeah, I don’t know what’s happening with this subject. I know I should be putting the most work into it but for some reason writing an essay feels so hard all the time. I’ve started making some mind maps though and this has been good with helping me memorise the content/ideas/quotes.

French
My oral exam is SO SOON (anyone else doing a LOTE I feel your pain). It’s also on the very last day of school so that’s a little annoying because obviously I wanted to actually enjoy the day. I’ve consistently been doing exams from about the middle of the year for french and still really want to hit a 36, which I think may be possible (although as long as I get above 30 I’ll be satisfied). Also shoutout to ashmi for helping me find someone to practice with, merci beaucoup!

Specialist
I’m finding that I can actually complete exam 1 relatively confidently but exam 2 is a mess.

Methods
I’m kind of expecting this subject to be in my bottom 2 so I admit I’m not putting much work into it at all, apart from a couple of exams here and there when I’m bored.

Although the GAT is not a particularly joyous experience at least I get to see all my friends, see the school again and my neglected locker. At our school we didn’t get our year 12 jumpers till last term, so it will be cool to see everyone with their jumpers and the nicknames on the back (luckily Wednesday’s cold). That’s another thing, the weather has been so nice the last few days and yesterday the heat combined with the smell of sunscreen definitely reminded me of summer freedom.

Overall, I’m going pretty great  8). I’ve recently realised that getting into undergrad medicine is a little bit of a stretch for me (given my UCAT score which is in the low 80s) unless my ATAR is high 99s (unlikely). This was certainly disappointing to think about at first, but I also realised that nobody cares when you’re actually working in medicine whether you completed the course 2 years earlier or not. I know that it’s completely possible that I'll be able to get a graduate medicine place and this also gives me a few more years to mature before diving headfirst into a career (I’ve applied interstate for undergrad as well, but again very unlikely unless my ATAR is surprisingly amazing). In general, I think I've pretty much convinced myself that just because I'm not going to get in doesn't mean I'm not good enough for a career in Medicine or that I'm a failure. Wherever my life heads I will be thankful for the incredible education I've had and the experiences/friendships along the way. At the moment for anyone interested I think I’m leaning towards Biomedicine at Monash and not Melbourne simply because of convenience.

Well that’s it for now, I’m not sure if I’ll write another entry before exams start because I don’t actually have that many interesting things to write about :) Anyway all the best to everyone doing a 3/4 subject and a toast to the class of 2020, we’ve got this  ;D

Hey Choco!
Can I just say, I absolutely love reading your journal entries and am always super excited for the next time you post!  ;D

Wow, that dance class does seem like fun! I haven't danced in a while but whenever I do it's so fun and it's also great physical exercise!

That's amazing that you're feeling that way about Chemistry! Haha, I totally get you though! Whenever I get tired of Literature or Specialist, I always go and do Psychology and thankfully it calms me down after so much frustration with a Spec problem.

I feel that way about Literature too! Some of the themes are so complex and abstract and it's so hard to just sit down and write a full comparative essay. Hopefully it becomes easier for you to write essays!

Totally agree about the weather! I've been loving the 28 degree days and on the Friday, there were a couple of kids having a water fight near the park in front of our house and it's just making me even more excited for Summer as Spring's not my cup of tea with the hayfever and such.  :(

In general, I think I've pretty much convinced myself that just because I'm not going to get in doesn't mean I'm not good enough for a career in Medicine or that I'm a failure.
So true! I mean, everyone's going to become a doctor in the end anyway and it doesn't matter what path you take to get there.

Ever since you told me this, I've been thinking how true that is. I believe you will get to where you want with your hard work and because you have such a good attitude with respect to your goals.

Wherever my life heads I will be thankful for the incredible education I've had and the experiences/friendships along the way.
That's a really good mindset you have as ultimately, out experiences are what shape us and make us learn from our failures and that's what makes us stronger.

Loved the update! I hope you have a great week Choco!  8)

Hi choco!
Ever since lockdown started my dance lessons have moved to zoom so I definitely get how fun it is! Except on days like yesterday when I just become a ball of sweat, haha. You with chem is me with bio, it’s always a wonderful subject to go back to if I feel upset and worried over my other subjects. I’m the opposite, this weather is way too hot for me!! I’m honestly dying and I much prefer the sunny days with a gentle breeze rather than humid weather or sweltering heat.

You're absolutely right that not getting into undergrad med does not mean that you're a failure or that you're not good enough for med. Many of the best and happiest doctors right now got in through postgrad, and besides, going postgrad means that you get to live the journey towards getting your degree for longer, and we all know that it's more about the journey than the final outcome. You are such an amazing person and so damn hardworking, no matter what the outcome is you'll be where you're meant to be and where you'll be the happiest. Here's a toast to you and your studies🥂

Hey hey Choco!!🍫🥰

I love it when I see journal updates from you!!

Zoom dance classes sound so good, especially since most of us are always hunched over our tables.😍
the magpies kept trying to attack me and take my jam donut which was a terrifying experience because, for anyone that doesn’t know, I’m terrified of birds.
This sounds like something out of a horror movie. 😱 [That jam donut must have looked pretty tasty though... If I were a magpie I would totally be stealing random donuts🤣]. Jam donuts are the best, especially when they are nice and warm!

You are so passionate in Chem!! I could never find Chem to be relaxing at all [well except Redox] and it is super amazing to know you have that 'one subject' you can study and feel super comfortable doing. Also, good luck for your French oral exam coming up!! You are going to do amazing and we all believe in you. [My friend loves you Choco by the way! She absolutely LOVES your personality]

Yes, you GO CHOCO!! That is a beautiful mindset to have and it is amazing to see the open-minded thinking going on here. Just like everyone else who has already commented, there are always pathways into things you want to do and in the end, so long as you have the passion, you will get there. It is the experience of a journey that will definitely make the whole thing worthwhile in the long-run!

Thanks for the journal update Choco and good luck with upcoming exam prep! You have got this! 8)

OOP I feel this. If I want to feel bad about my mathematic abilities I just do spec exam 2 practice HAHA. Keep going! I'm sure you'll smash it by exam time :)

I just want to say a HUGE thank you. Your mindset is so uplifting and inspiring. Thanks for your positivity towards your studies and your life in general, it honestly inspires me (and I'm sure so many other people). All the best for the start of term 4 and for your exam revision period.

Yes, definitely I have faced and continue to face many problems with Spec and slipping into an "easier" science subject is a blessing. Thank you for the reply Evolio (good luck with the hay-fever) and have a great week too!

Wow that's so cool and yes bio is truly a beautiful subject (aha you're making me jealous, my bio days seem like so long ago).

I’m the opposite, this weather is way too hot for me!! I’m honestly dying and I much prefer the sunny days with a gentle breeze rather than humid weather or sweltering heat.
Yeah I totally understand the sticky and sweaty mess of exercising when it's over 25 degrees although it IS really nice when you want to just sit outside and read a book/do some work. Although, I think it's the memories that I associate with heat and summer (no school stress, all the end of year celebrations, Christmas, holidays, swimming with friends, etc) not just the heat itself.

When I read this I started cheering! This is honestly the best mindset to have and I’m so very proud of you for that!!! We have so many different pathways in and you’re absolutely right, it doesn’t matter how long it takes if we can get there in the end.

Aw thank you! It's made me a lot more comfortable when approaching exams and everything. I'm sure you'll smash through the study too and I'm excited to see your pathway into the future as well, we're almost there :) Thanks for the heartfelt reply whys.

AHa yes I'm glad that someone is on the same page as me with spec (sometimes I have this misconception that every single person dong spec is an absolute genius, not to say you're not though but it's good to know some people feel the same) And thank you so much, you're incredibly hardworking too and I love how you do art and spec, that's probably not a common combo (fun fact, art was actually my reserve subject for spec if I didn't/couldn't do the class). Anyway, all the best for exams too, you'll do amazing  8)

Chapter 12: Results
04/01/21

Okay so I haven’t posted for ages but here goes again! First of all a massive congratulations to the class of 2020 and also all those doing 3/4 subjects this year. I hope that you are proud of yourselves for getting through such a difficult year :)

So, then there were results. I went to sleep absolutely fine but woke up at 4:45am and my mind was buzzing too much to be able to go back to sleep. And then that email arrived at 6:38… (some of you may already have seen my results posted but here they are again anyway.)

BIOLOGY: 50
A+  A+  A+
From last year :)

ENGLISH: 49
A+  A+  A+
A FORTY-NINE in English! This was a very big surprise and I never expected this high (maybe a 45 but never so close to a 50). I duxed English at my school which I’m super proud of. Also if any of you are doing Station Eleven this year I’m happy to read essays and give feedback (the text response was definitely my best part of this exam). I think SnowLeopard asked me to do an English guide? Not sure how helpful I would be but I might try to put one together after I get back from holidays.

CHEMISTRY: 43
A+  A+  A+
So I’m definitely disappointed with this but it was expected after I didn’t do so well in the exam. I still duxed the subject at my school which is nice but for my favourite subject last year I wish I hadn’t thrown the exam so bad. Especially since it ended up being in my bottom two (and the whole year I was certain it would make it into my primary four).

METHODS: 41
A+  A   A+
I’m very happy with this. After exam 1 I certainly did not expect to get above that magic 40. It ended up being in my bottom two like I predicted so that wasn’t a surprise (although maybe a surprise that my lowest scaled score was methods at 45.86, that was a surprise).

FRENCH: 37
A    A+  A
Some part of me wishes that I could have hit that 40 in French, but I’m still quite happy with this score. It scaled really nicely and made my primary 4 which was a surprise (and I duxed this subject too :))). I’m actually quite keen to continue with French next year (which is weird considering I was certain in 2019 that I would stop it after year 12). It probably has been the most useful class and I’m eager to keep improving my skills.

SPECIALIST: 36
A+   B+   B
Again expected and I'm satisfied with it. I think I did my best with this subject. It certainly wasn’t my passion or anything (not like bio and chemistry) and I certainly didn't put as much work into it as I put into English, but I did what I could and the scaling was very beautiful (ended up being my 3rd best subject after scaling so that makes it worth it).

ATAR: 99.70 (whoops almost forgot to put this in). Completely surpassed expectations. At the start of the year my real hope was to achieve 99.50+ and to do better than this, despite feeling horrible after many of my exams, was incredible. I think I would have liked a few more subjects over 45 but my English result boosted my ATAR and made up for my disappointing chemistry score.

So there it is, my results. Oh, and another thing, I ended up getting a MONASH MED INTERVIEW OFFER! Am I expecting to get into Medicine? Probably not, no. My UCAT score is very low compared to a "competitive" UCAT score (it was my ATAR that really saved me here - in fact it was English that saved me) and thus, I would say that I’m at the “bottom” of those receiving an interview. Given I haven’t done too much preparation, I’m not expecting to do incredible or absolutely ace the interview (which is probably what I would need to do to get an offer into the course). Regardless I’m just going to try my best. I’ve left the next three days entirely for practice and at the end of the day, I am really proud of myself for receiving an interview offer (even though I probably won’t quite cut it for the course itself). I figure that it is really good practice for my interview skills (especially since I’ll have to do such interviews 3 years later if I still would like to enter graduate Medicine.) Although any general advice for the MMI would be welcomed, I'm super nervous!

Okay and for some non-school related stuff, I’ve gone back to work recently which has been fantastic and I also trained all through exams which was AMAZING. I highly recommend to the class of 2021 participating in extracurriculars even during exams. It was a really great way I could clear my head and go into the exam the next day a littler "fresher." I’m also going away (after my interview which is in a few days) to spend some time with my extended family which will be great to get my mind off uni preferences.

To close, thank you all so much for your support this year through my journal and a massive shoutout to all you wonderful people that have commented and helped me get through the year. A 99.70, wow, I couldn’t have done it without AN :)

I’ll probably do one more post after preferences are offered to officially “close” this journal journey. Whilst Medicine is obviously my first preference at the moment I’m expecting that I’ll probably do Biomedicine at Monash. Evidently my ATAR will get me clearly into the course so at least I don't have to worry about that. I am super excited about study this year and I can’t wait to have the uni experience.

Congrats on your results!
I also got a bit of a surprise Interview for monash medicine, and I’m pretty much in the same boat you to be honest. Good luck and let’s try our best for it even if we don’t get in!

Obviously incredible results, best of luck for med!

I love how clear it is in your post as well that you care about helping others and it's great to see the comment about extra curriculars too. Having that space to not be 100% academically productive is also something that helped me in my year 12.

My course (while obviously not med) also required an interview & one thing I would say is to remember that how you feel after the interview isn't necessarily a reflection of how you went and to also remember that they aren't malicious people wanting you to screw up.

Congratulations again and all the best for uni :)

Chapter 13: An Ending
14/01/21

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your congratulations and wishes IThinkIFailed, The Cat In The Hat, eloisegrace, Bri, ashmi, angrybiscuit, Smart Worker, whys, ArtyDreams, homeworkisapotato and Evolio. Your messages meant so much and, for those of you with journals, I’ve loved following them too. You’re all such an inspiration to me! In fact, I just wanted to say a massive thanks to every single person who has read my journal. AN has definitely become a little corner of my life and I appreciate every one who has made it such an awesome community.

So my offer…
I ended up getting an offer into Monash Medicine (ERC) and I’m absolutely blown away. At the start of the year I never would have expected to get an offer and Medicine just seemed like some dream very far away. Especially when I got my UCAT results - the course seemed even further away. Anyway, a special shoutout for whys for her UCAT advice/run down at the start of the year and all those who wished me luck for the interview. Your help and your encouragement made a big difference.

I’m so excited to see where this course takes me and what the future holds. This year will certainly be a new experience for me and I’m looking forward to delving into the course content. If you are in Year 11/12 this year, always feel free to shoot me a PM if you want advice or have questions about general study techniques, etc. I’m always happy to lend a hand if I can (just as so many AN users have helped me).

So that short entry concludes my journal! Again thank you to those who followed my journal (and replied to so many of my posts) and everyone who has been there answering my questions and all. I look forward to seeing where you guys all head in the future and special wishes to the Class of 2021, I know you’ll do amazing.

I’ll see you ‘round AN :)
