Like it or hate it, Exam 1 is over. If you made silly mistakes and are not happy with exam 1 or if you did well and want to get a killer Study Score-Exam 2 is on its way. And its twice as important.
So, what do you reckon will be on exam 2?
I think:
-Euler
-Continuous probability
-Absolute values
-Killer Trig
.....(Wierd MC...)
-
Killer absolute and killer trig. Yeah.
-
Composite absolute function. I'd put money on that ;)
-
What about composite absolute trig function? Hahaha.
(and did you manage to get a copy of MM exam 1?)
-
I have not got exam 1, but I practically remember most of the questions.
Yeh- Composite functions, Inverses, (stuff they didnt test in exam 1)
-
Euler? What's that?
God, I'm screwed.
-
Euler? What's that?
God, I'm screwed.
approximations and the like
f(x+h) =~ f(x) + hf'(x)
f'(x) = [f(x+h) - f(x)] / h
-
f(x+h)= f'(x) + hf'(x)
Euler.
-
Euler? What's that?
God, I'm screwed.
It's a case of linearization.
Edit: beaten to it haha
-
Oh yea. I like Toothpicks version, it's easier :D
-
sketching problem!!!
telling you to sketch a circular function of some sort.
-
I'd bet my house that we're getting:
- Graphing of a trig function
- Probability distribution functions
- Absolute value stuff
-
There needs to be a circular function graph question in Exam 2 since it was weirdly missing from Exam 1. No doubt a sin problem with many parts (such as max/min values etc.)
-
100% on normal distribution
there was none today.
-
The probability questions on Exam 2 better be much clearer than what was Exam 1. The probability on Exam 1 was just terrible...
-
Really terrible(likely to cost in a loss of one mark, damn).
-
100% on normal distribution
there was none today.
yay i love normal, ooh and continous, there was nothing on that today
-
I thought euler was removed from the course?
-
they call it linear approximation, and thats the formula that everyone has been saying. i know that euler in spesh is something different..
-
Yeh, something like that
-
I like normal distribution questions too. :D
-
i recon ther'll be an inverse question and find the domain on the exam.
-
Agree with the inverse. I'm surprised that there was no inveses on exam 1.
Maybe something that deals with first principles? I don't know.
-
a normal distribution question, mayb one where you hav to use inverse or a tricky one where u cant just put it all in your calc.
-
Yeh definitely normal distributions. Possibly a tricky invNORM. Abs, definitely trig.
-
Wierd probability question
-
i know whats going to be on the extended questions! and im certain they are correct, 100% sure
the 4 questions will definently be:
one on calculus
one on trig
one on probability
one on graph and function
-
hrm according to the exam cover for Methods Exam 2 2007, there are 5 extended response questions. So its gonna be a LONG EXAM!

The number of questions is irrelevant. You could have one question that takes 30 minutes to do, while another can be done in 5.

NOoooooooooooooo
I LOVE MY CALC! (CAS) heheh
-
Has anyone done the iTute Trial Exam 2 for this year? It's extremely difficult.
-
itute are always harder...i have the paper on my desk ill prolly do it a bit later on..
-
I'd say a whole question out of the 5 will be on probability with emphasis on normal and standard distributions.
They'll probably give us some scenario, example someone's daily fat intake or whatever, and give us a series of 'find the prob that this happens' questions.
Also a question that ends with drawing a graph. Maybe start with a function, find the inverse, domain, yadda yadda, hence draw the graph of the inverse where the inverse will be a tricky trig.
I may be completely wrong on this, but I did predict 'mutually exclusive' would come up on exam 1, so you never know.
:P
-
Tricky trig inverse? That's a thought. I've never seen that before.
Wait. That isn't possible! Is it?
I don't know! Just practicing really difficult VCAA questions atm. All you can do, I suppose.
If you figure out how to inverse a trig graph, tell me. :P
-
Um....Tricky Trig.
A retarded question we have not seen b4. How hard can trig be?
I am nearly certain there will be an abs function question.
And One of the 5(probably worth the most marks) will be focusing on continuous prob.
Transformations will also pop up, possibly having to discuss them...
-
completely irrelevant but I can't stop loling at kingmar's picture. Binary sudoku
-
What I meant was, for example, they'd give us an inverse sine equation (sin^-1) and tell us to find the inverse, hence resulting in a sine equation. Then we'd have to graph it. And by tricky all I mean is a dilations and tranformations without a comfortable scale maybe.
-
Possibly, what about exponentials/logs/differential calculus..
Um...This exam in around 36 hrs time.
-
Don't think they'd do something that consumes a lot of time without testing much knowledge.
-
I wonder whether or not 5 questions instead of 4 is a good or a bad thing.
It might actually be a long long long paper..
-
we might get some composites, maybe addition of ordinates - definitely trig and absolute value. maybe logs and exponentials..whatever wasn't tested much in exam 1 will be all over exam 2. and for those doing CAS like me, look out for plenty of matrices
*edit*: having 5 questions could be good or bad. because they are worth 58 marks just like the 4, we could be looking at shorter questions. on the other hand..they could give us some long, complex parts to questions that are worth quite a few marks.
-
i hate long questions....
-
Yeh, it all depends what those VCAA dudes decided to give us.
Hopefully it will all be good.
-

each part of the question would probably worth less marks. there probably won't be any questions (by itself) that would be worth like 5 marks unlike last year's exam paper's last question. was that 4 or 5 marks? i cant remember.
-
exact same question, but in the CAS paper it was worth 4 marks, in the normal paper it was worth 5
-
The only problem with long questions is that you start to switch off thinking after a while and get bored carried way making stupid mistakes that decrease your SS.
-
yeah i kno, gotta be really 'switched on' on monday. hopefully it won't be like last year, where losing 1 mark almost meant losing one SS at the top end
-
Yeah hopefully. I wonder if drinking a 'V' or 'Red Bull' helps..
-
Yeah hopefully. I wonder if drinking a 'V' or 'Red Bull' helps..
i think it somewhat helps
-
Yeah hopefully. I wonder if drinking a 'V' or 'Red Bull' helps..
It keeps you awake, but the side effect (for me at least) is violent ahaking (though that may be nerves/hand cramps from hours and hours of non-stop writing).

yeah my right hand is cramping from studying so much right now! and you know, my chem tutor told me that he used to bring chocolate bars into his exams and he said that it helped. but i doubt VCAA would let us do that anymore...unless we put the chocolate in clear cling wrap. lol, they might be afraid of kids putting something inside a chocolate bar to cheat
-
I am so certain one long question(probably around 14-16 marks) will be on probability, focusing on normal distribution.

i agree, because they didn't test continuous and normal distributions on exam 1 at all. and i reckon the multiple choice could get quite tricky in spots
-
The exam's so soon...
I want to walk out of there smiling. :D
-
same here. i couldn't stop grinning when I walked out of exam 1, not even when I found that one dumbdumbdumb mistake I made! i want to feel like that again after tomorrow :D

You got Lenny's smile surgery :)

any other tips for exam 2? or good qstns to practice?
-
LOL :D who's lenny, coblin?
any other tips for exam 2? or good qstns to practice?
i replied about that in the thread you started ('hardest exam 2 qs') - IMO try kilbaha, NEAP, heffernan and TSSM - i found that they were the best quality and probably most relevant. and go for any extended response you can get your hands on - if you happen to have the MAV 'WERMS' revision book, i thought those were good. it's all about experiencing a wide range of analysis question types so you can handle almost anything they throw at you.
-
Some of itutes papers are so annoying.
-
Btw
Everybody Good Luck.
Remember: if you find a question hard tomorrow, you are probably not the only one who finds it hard. Grab the maximum number of easy marks and try to analyse the hard/difficult analysis questions.
Practically...Just give it your best shot.

LOL! You sound like the TSFX mail!
Good luck to you too. You'll do well of course.

lol
Yes, those 3 study tips were pretty motivational(even though most of them where obvious).
