Unit 3/4 Applied Computing: Data Analytics

I was just wondering whether doing the new study "Applied Computing: Data Analytics" next year would put me at a disadvantage for getting my ATAR. Knowing that I can't predict the scaling of the subject stresses me out.

If we look at Informatics' (previous known name) prior scaling, it would suggest that scaling would go down potentially putting you at a disadvantage. I say potentially because a) you shouldn't be taking into account scaling as if it's a subject that interests you, you should be able to try and aim for a high mark minimising any scaling effect, and b) because scaling can change every year - I would be cautious to assume it would automatically follow the same trend as Informatics as the name change along with content could change things.

Rule of thumb - don't use scaling as a decision maker in subject choices and go with what you're interested in or think you could do really well in.

Informatics is very good subject to take provided you have an interest for IT and business integration. If you achieve a 40+ study score scaling won't affect you that much. When I took Informatics, I didn't take scaling into account. It worked for me.

On the other hand if you're treating it as a bludge subject, look elsewhere, you'll get low and get scaled down.

I usually adopt this type of thinking for all my subject choices - passionate = take regardless of scaling.
