Title: Are you READY?
Post by: laijiawen on October 31, 2010, 01:56:05 pm
1. How many practice exams have you done?
2. What is your method of studying with practice exams?
3. What is you range of marks you get from practice exams?

I'll start
1. Haven't counted yet, but I've definitely done over 30 including the redoing of some.
2. After each practice exam, I would highlight questions that might need better answers. I would compile 10+ questions then after relearning them again, I would attempt to redo the question and repeat this process until none are left.
3. 82-89/90

2. go over the knowledge for questions I make mistakes in.
3. 85 and 86 for the last two prac exams I did.

Vn is kinda negative reinforcement for me. Removes the aversive stimulus of having to study and increases the likelihood of the behaviour (going on VN) reoccuring haha. Only psych people would get this shit joke.

I have them in hard copy. But no scanner either :\

They're not THAT great. There's still mistakes in them. But overall they are actually pretty good.

I'd say they're even with insight in terms of the quality of the questions but they're harder than insight ones.

Don't stress matt. I'm sure those 50+ exams you've already done trumps any extra trials for teachers ones.

What company is T4T, i've never heard of them before.
Also this question robbed me of my first 90/90, can anybody care to explain why i'm wrong or why their wrong?
Mnemonic devices rely on the method of __________ to improve memory.
I wrote imagery/visualisation. Elaboration just doesnt seem right because the questioon specifically asks "Mnemonic Device".
Will VCAA accept both answers if this was on the real exam?

Depends. First 3 I do without a time limit. But after that I do it properly in exam conditions. And if I don't like an answer I've written in SA I'll go overtime till I get it right. There's no point in ignoring it I guess. So a bit of both. I have a habit of writing way too much for my answers though...

Hmm well if the assessor's report didn't say it I dunno. They probably wouldn't have accepted it knowing how picky psych assessors are. But they might have. It does make sense. But for future reference use "elaboration" since mnemonic devices are based on 'elaborating' information to be learned..

I don't bother with exam conditions, I forego reading time and just work as fast as I can. only takes 55 minutes - 1 hour. and I try to write how I would in the exam, it's not really practice otherwise

mnemonics elaborate information, correct sillysmile

remember elaboration is a general term that involves linking new information with other information either new or already stored in LTM. mnemonics make use of information stored in LTM to 'elaborate' and enhance organisation of the new information

1. I don't really count them.
2. Do the MC like a pro and then lose interest in the SA. I'll just think of the answers and not write them, but still stress on the 'key terms' in my head and then just read over the model answers.

Totally ready/looking forward to the psych exam. It's my relaxing/de-stress exam. It's positively fun compared to the horror that awaits me in the form of the chemistry and methods and UMEP (ffuuu-) exams.

Totally ready/looking forward to the psych exam. It's my relaxing/de-stress exam. It's positively fun compared to the horror that awaits me in the form of the chemistry and methods and UMEP (ffuuu-) exams.
Haha so true. Psych and Media are the only two subjects I feel prepared for and I'd rather do 10 psych and media exams than 1 chem and methods one haha. Yet I'm still nervous for psych and media cos they'll definitely be in my top 4 so every bit counts :S

1. I don't really count them.
2. Do the MC like a pro and then lose interest in the SA. I'll just think of the answers and not write them, but still stress on the 'key terms' in my head and then just read over the model answers.

what is UMEP psych like?

First semester was pretty much unit 3/4 psych covered at an incredibly quick pace in more detail. Second semester actually reminds me of year 11 psych (social psych and personality) with some new stuff added in. I haven't been keeping up this semester because I've been focusing more on my year 12 subjects so now I'm freaking out about the exam. :| :|

And of course, there's our favourite research methods sprinkled everywhere.

Do they get you to do statistics with UMEP Psych?

As part of quantitative methods, but it's still mostly stuff I've already come across in VCE psych/methods.

Do you guys do stuff like t-tests and correlations?

I'm just curious cause I'm comparing it with my first year psych course - it does look similiar.

Yeah, we did correlations with Pearson's coefficient and t-tests (except I missed that tute). Do you use PASW (the program)?

My stupid cheap school tried to discourage me doing UMEP (and didn't let me do psych 3/4 in year 11, but it was ok to do bio even though I knew nothing about bio) and now my friend regrets not taking it because she listened to them.

My school didn't advertise it, only myself and one other student put in an application for next year due to the pamphlet the uni sent us. Good luck with your exam vexx, hopefully a 5.5 increment onto your ATAR :)

1. How many practice exams have you done?
2. What is your method of studying with practice exams?
3. What is you range of marks you get from practice exams?

1. I've done 8, and that's all I plan to do.
2. I read over my notes and do the practice exams.
3. 90+
