Hoping for about 35-40 :)
I wonder if it'll scale by 12 at 30 this yr too.

For the past two years (2007 & 2008), Chinese SL has been scaled up by 12 if you got 30.  I had a look at the 2006 Scaling Report and apparently it only got scaled up by 11.

last year it was scaled +12 for SL and +10 for SLA. Hopefully that stays this year ^.^

Yes, for the past two years it has stayed the same so I'm predicting it should stay the same (or increase if you're lucky).

i'm doing sl too....are you guys background students or not?
i'm most definitely not, but i go to chinese school on saturdays to get extra pratice. its so hard!
and i'm having so much trouble with my detailed study. i am going to be so glad when its over. hopefully i can do an extension course in chinese next year though XD

wow, you must be really good to be a non-background student to go to chinese school. But I have heard that non-background kids will get marked more easily, so don't worry.

omg i stuffed up first sac (writing which is like worth 10%)! If i do quite well in everything else except my first sac... would it still be possible to get a 40 or above?

haha liv... i finally found someone who is wanting to do the chinese extension course as well! i really wanna get in ! :)

Ofcourse it is still possible! I did really bad in one SAC as well, [listening which I only got 5/10 LOL].

Your chances of getting 40+ is still very very high, losing a few marks on a SAC really doesn't matter too much, just do your best for the rest of your SACs :). Remember it is the exam and oral that REALLY counts towards your SS.

my chinese teacher is terrible...yesterday we had our translation/comprehension sac...and he was teaching another class in the same room as us.

yeah i think its weird how white kids get marked easier...but then again not many can actually speak chinese very well. as opposed to aussie-chinese kids who qualify for SL because they've never been to china, but they have chinese parents who speak to them in chinese every day.

so when pplz talk about the three grades (e.g. A A B+), what exactly are they talking about? Don't these grades contribute mainly to your final chinese result?
Title: Re: SL'ers 2009
Post by: TrueTears on August 14, 2009, 11:12:50 pm
They are the "Grade Assessments". Or simply GA's.

They contribute to your final SS for Chinese.

There are 3 GAs for Chinese:

GA 1: Unit 3 SACs (after moderation)
GA 2: Unit 4 SACs (after moderation
GA 3: The Exam (Oral and Written)

Based on the grades, your study score will be determined in some mysterious way by VCAA.

Is the end of year chinese written exam held at a specific venue for all Chinese students? does that mean everyone doing Chinese (regardless of FL,SLA, SL group) will be sitting the exam at the same time and at the same venue?

The written exam will be different for all Chinese students from all schools.

SLA, SL and FL will be at different venues because the examined material is different (think about it, there is the listening and responding section which are different for all 3 levels of Chinese :P)

Usually, the written exam will be held at your school, even if you are the only person being examined.

If that is not possible, VCAA will make sure that you will be examined somewhere close (most likely a school in the vicinity).

If you have SL, SLA, FL students regardless if they are doing it at normal school or at langauge school, all of you will be at your normal day school doing the VCAA written exam. However, you will not be in the same room or proximity. Normally, they will allocate you to differenct rooms according to the type of student ie SL or SLA or FL. Because it would be terrible having all the listening sections played at once.

hey anyone know how the end of year writing exam works... so do all the Chinese students from around Victoria gather in one place and sit the exam... or is the exam held in a few different locations and all held at the same time...

Different locations, same time. Normally somewhere local.

Didn't you already ask that question and people have already answered it?

Hmm, really hard to say, were your examiners nice? Did they smile a lot etc?

If they're really nice and sympathetic I'm pretty sure you'd get away with it, most examiners care about the general "flow" of the conversation rather than pick on 1-2 mistakes; since everyone is bound to screw up some bits in their conversations. So don't fret too much over it, what you really gotta worry about is the written exam, blitz that and I'd say 35 should be possible.

Don't despair now.  The written exam is worth heaps more.  Ace that and you're heading in the right direction.  :)

Probably around there.  But look, in all honesty, do your best.  If you give it all your best, then you won't regret it.  Otherwise, when you get your score you won't forgive yourself for a long time.  :)

Not quite, but on averaging it all out, I reckon it would be about an A.  But I can tell you that Chinese did save my ENTER.  :)
