Title: Influences of American English on SAE
Post by: cns1511 on January 31, 2009, 05:25:31 pm: Does anyone know any good sites (or have information already) on the influences of American English on Standard Australian English?

I have to write an essay on it for school, and can only find a few different points.

I need to identify which subsystems each influence belongs to and provide examples.

Any help would be great, thanks. :)

Yeah, and bloody microsoft used to have the default language for Microsoft spellcheck as U.S. English. Don't know if it's still like that, my Microsoft Word is horribly outdated :P

A point you can bring up is that SAE is strongly resistant to USA English; the Broad/General/Cultivated Australian accents still exist and changes with them remain largely self-driven, rather than being hugely affected by the outside world.

When is/was the essay due? =p
