just wondering if there is any point in attending the free mastering the vce workshop being held at melb uni for tsfx?for methods and further.
-
This workshop is for all VCE students, focusing on study techniques and etc. I did not attend and hence will not comment on its usefulness.
-
Well I'll just say that the workshop motivated me for about....2 hours afterwards from which point I resumed into my previous holiday mood and totally forgot about what I 'learnt' that day. Honestly, just use which ever study techniques work for you, because their ones sure as hell didn't considering I forgot them almost immediately. Not worth your time IMO unless you're bored and/or need justification to go out.
-
bored sounds right. haha
yeh i'll take ur word for it. their brochures etc. are so persuasive but its all bs.
-
I went to it last year. The best thing about it were these:

First time I saw them, heh.
Also, tale of two michaels still pisses me off.

Agreed.
I went today, and in my opinion, the notes were quite good. The study skills ones detailed a number of tasks that sound as though they'll be efficient, and the physics ones contained 70 odd problems.
Then again, the speaker in the study skills lecture seemed to drone on for a little too long...

I'm guessing that would be Irena Jaskula?
If you've been to a similar session offered by TSFX, there isn't much point in going the next year because the notes are basically the same (the only thing that changes is the name of the lectures). :)
Also, with the tale of two Michaels, I want to question the authenticity of the story...

The guy's C/C+ SACs from Unit 3 must've been scaled up massively for him to stand a chance at Med. The only schools where it'd be feasible would probably be Mac.Rob/MHS (and someone who was apparently "dumb" probably wouldn't have gained entrance anyway!).
And I doubt the other guy could truly be as intelligent as she described and score below 90. Sure, careless mistakes tax, but would he have made enough slips to attain B-B+ scores? Probably not.
-
Wait, can somebody tell me how it goes again.
All I remember is that some guy thought he was top shit, didn't take his studies too seriously, and still got a higher score than I could ever dream of.
-
do the notes they give you consist of a big booklet ?
-
TSFX Mastering VCE = Total waste of time. I went to it in 2007, seems like she tells the same bs every year, lol.
-
Yeah, I didn't agree with some of the things that she said, but I thought that the study techniques were useful.
-
is there one on saturday 28th?
-
yep there is check their website. There is also one next sunday
-
I'm going this Sunday to the Physics and Chem ones...
Anyone else going?
I figured I'd rather go to a free one and see if TSFX is good. I very much doubt if I'll go to their tutes this year anyway, they're just ridiculously expensive and I don't have time to read 600 pages of extra notes and do 42 practices exams for each subject.
Is it no longer possible that you can do well purely on intelligence?
-
pfft.. it's all a con, cheap bogans wanting your money.
BAHAHA to all those who fall for their traps!
-
i went tsfx on saturday and i loved it !
-
Hang on, do they give you 42 practise exams?!?!?!
-
If you go to their Master classes (ie. their weekly classes), the will give you a practice exam (Chem & Physics) and two practice exams (Methods + Specialist - one tech free and one tech rich).
In my opinion, they are ridiculously difficult...

Anyone remember that tsfx 2006 methods exam hahaha

Ah yes, that's why I just can't bring myself to compare the 2006 VCAA exam with the 2006 TSFX exam. lol
-
lol. I went yesterday.
Physics was good but the guy took too long to actually get to the point...he was talking about how well his students do and how there are so few good physics teachers etc.
Chem the content was good but she stressed the second syllable of almost every word. Twas incredibly annoying
"Mi-LO"
Can she not say MILO?!?!?!
