Now that the draw is out, who will take the crown? Will Rafael Nadal be able to defend his title? Will Roger Federer go on to win his 16th Grand Slam? 2010 promises to be a fantastic year!

saying murray coz i love his potty mouth :P

He's too big a show-off :P
I sense an upset this year, Verdasco's in top form at the Kooyong Classic.

Murray's worse
A tennis player showing-off biceps (mega fail!)
Verdasco is loud in a more 'cultured' way :P

Lleyton's gone, Australian tennis is ruined (hopefully we return soon). There is no way an Aussie will win it, my bet is Fed for men and Kim Clijsters for women. I hope Murray doesn't win, i really don't like him (even though i have to admit he is pretty good)

Today's Hit for Haiti appeal will be live streamed on australianopen.com where, from 2pm (AEST) you can view the world’s top tennis players compete in a fundraising event at Rod Laver Arena to help raise money for survivors of Tuesday’s Haiti earthquake.
Although it’s the eve of the Australian Open’s first round, world No. 1 Roger Federer has put aside thoughts of his preparation and brought together an entourage of fellow stars to play a special mixed-doubles event at the stadium to support Haiti.
Top-ranked players Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Kim Clijsters, Serena Williams, Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur will also give up their last day of preparation to take to the court for the special event that was Federer’s brainchild.
Federer said all proceeds will go to the Haiti earthquake victims, and he hopes to “fill the stadium”.
“I had the idea we could do something to help Haiti after the tragic earthquake. So, I spoke to some other top players ... they said ‘yes, we should do something’,” Federer said.
Ticket sales
The action will start at Melbourne Park from 2pm, and tickets are available from Rod Laver Arena and Federation Square from 9am or at the gate. Entry is $10 for adults and free for children aged under 12.
The play will be mixed doubles matches, with pairings of the star players. Federer had not decided on a partner late Saturday, but joked that he would “choose wisely”. The scoring format is best of two sets and Hawkeye will be used to settle any questionnable calls.
The Swiss star said he was happy to do whatever he could to assist.
“I think it’s something as a tennis family we’re very happy to do. I know it’s on the eve of the first Grand Slam of the season, so it’s for some not so easy maybe mentally to separate, you know, a few things – but I think it’s a great initiative.
Federer encourage Melburnians to come down and support the players and the cause.
“I’m happy we can go through with it and have some fun tomorrow. It may be a nice day also for families to come and see some top players play,” he said.
The devastating earthquake which hit Haiti on Tuesday measured 7.0 on the Richter Scale and has left tens of thousands of people dead. The United Nations has launched an appeal for hundreds of millions of dollars to try to help around three million people in need.
Donations
Donations can be made online to Partners in Health www.pih.org
Fans attending today's match at Melbourne Park will be asked to make a $10 donation.
Come along today if you can guys! Entry is only $10 to watch some of the top players in action and its for a good cause :)

Seeing the name 'Roger', I thought it referred to a certain former member ;) :D :)
-
i think that roger federer still has the potential to win this years Aussie open, his side of the draw isnt to bad and his only potentially dangerous opponent is Davydenko since he did lose to him the last two times they battled. In terms of the women's side i think/want Justine Henin to win the open, saw her playing at the Brisbane international and shes still got an awesome back hand and a more compact forehand so shes in pretty good form heading into the open. Although its harder to predict the woman's as there are always major upsets and lower ranked players end up beating most of the hist ranked players..

I'm so excited :)
I'm hoping for a Federer/Nadal matchup in the finals.

I'm so excited :)
I'm hoping for a Federer/Nadal matchup in the finals.
Likewise, hopefully Roger takes the title this time, I don't want to see the man cry again.
I strangely find it cute when Federer cries. I wonder why.

LOL that game was over before baghdatis retired from hewitts last game. fed is all class, he'll go all the way.
-
No Sharapova + Ivanovic + Australians = Little interest in womens draw.
Also, I wonder where this leaves Lleyton? It's becoming painfully clear that he can't compete with the top players on tour.. I get the feeling he might not be around for many more years.
-
yea, its all downhill from here on for lleyton, noway he can match it with anyone from the current top 15.
-
if anyone is watching the tennis right now, fricken hell that french commentator is annoying.

-
NOOOO NADAL!!! =( =(
He played a great match though...there'll be a lot of Kia highlights on this match =)
-
Yeah, saw it just then, was he injured?
Yeah, he stuffed up his knee again. Just when we thought he didn't need bandages around his knees anymore, his knee screws up again. :(
-
Argh, that sucks :(
-
Bad Luck Rafa, would take a heap of pain from those knees to force such a warrior to retire.
:(
-
I'm totally gutted that Nadal was forced to withdraw :'(
Please Cilic, oh please beat Murray.
-
I went to crown after the Victory game, all the Scots were at the sports bar gettin wasted during the Murray game haha

no one likes the British when it comes to sports
-
as it happens, Murray is far from universally popular in Britain.
I'm for him though :)
-
Novak Djokovic is set to replace Rafael Nadal as World #2
If Andy Murray manages to reach the final, Rafael Nadal will fall to World #4
Only 4 more days before the tournament comes to an end ...
-
lol, now that no aussies left (as expected), i'm cheering for the two female asians
-
What time is Cilic playin Murray tomorrow night? 7.30?
-
lol, now that no aussies left (as expected), i'm cheering for the two female asians
I can't believe both of the Chinese players made it to the Semi-Final! Congratulation to them! It could be a Chinese Final
What time is Cilic playin Murray tomorrow night? 7.30?
It will most likely be at 7:30 tomorrow night!
-
Serena shall stop em ;)
-
^ Hope so!
Although Serena might not win the title this year
Its something to do with odd years that she ends up winning
She won the title in '03,'05,'07 and '09
Funnily enough .. its the same with Roddick
His only made the Semi-Final four times in odd years: '03,'05,'07 and '09
So it means that next year Roddick will make the Semi-Final and Serena will win :)
-
lol weird stat :P
funny how this thread is titled- "aus open-mens singles"

lol I'm hoping for a all Chinese Women's Final haha

Hahaha that French commentator loves creating an awkward atmosphere in the commentator's box.
French guy: "[...] like when we commentated on ______! You remember?
Other commentator: "...... No, I don't."
Ahaha another one:
On the show My Kitchen Rules
French: Who is in it?
Commentator: I like Mossi. He's been shot.
French: Mossi? Mossi (Merci) beaucoupe?
Commentator: ....
-
That French commentator is the most bias fucking commentator I've seen or heard.
-
That French commentator is the most bias fucking commentator I've seen or heard.
I know, but he's only there for entertainment purposes. It would be wrong for Jim Courier or John Alexander to be biased. The French guy doesn't contribute much to the commentary and analysis of the match at all but he is slightly comedic.
Oh and great match. I never liked Tsonga but after tonight's match, I think he's quite a cool guy. Can't wait until he puts up a good fight against Federer.

Well, my view of him is slightly highly bias so I guess you are right lol.. He is entertaining to watch, and entertainment is what sport really boils down to.
-
two class acts, epic match. tsonga ;)
-
Tsonga is one of two players that I really hate, along with Murray.
-
meh, his (Murray's) abrasive on-court persona doesn't mean he's not a nice guy
-
Cilic v Murray up soon :)

Murray is into his first Australian Open Final after a 4 SET win against Cilic .. Who will join him: Roger Federer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ?? :)

-
Yeah I hope he wins.. then Tsonga and Murray in the final :P?
lol hope so..wood be one hell of a final. tsonga to triumph tho :P. feds game bores me, ive seen enough.
-
Go Tsonga!
-
I hope Tsonga wins, but he's getting thrashed. :( Tsonga's strength is no match for Federer's gracefulness.
-
Yay for Federer! :) The final's going to be intense.
-
shattered :(
-
Man Federer ripped him a new asshole.. Shattered for Jo but I suppose the two five set matches in the lead up took their toll, and really had him on the backfoot from the start.
My prediction for the final: Federer to win in 4 sets.
-
Good piece about the first semi-final
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/article-23800175-andy-murray-finds-match-point-long-before-he-triumphs.do
"Having lamely dropped an edgy, tight first set, Murray was on the precipice of being blown away again by Cilic early in the second. And then, as if by act of God, it happened. Break point up at 2-2, Murray produced the most electrifying shot men's tennis has seen since Roger Federer's through-the-legs miracle against Novak Djokovic last summer in New York.
First he did brilliantly to reach a Cilic drop shot but the Croat seemed to have saved himself with a deep lob volley to the baseline.
Murray, among the quickest guys on the tour, scampered back to reach it. That was the easy bit. The impossible bit came next as he swivelled to fire an Exocet down the line.
Instantaneously, he became a different player. Liberated from the memory that he failed to break Cilic's serve once in New York, he expressed his relief with a leonine, bulging eyed roar.
At that moment, although the match never became a stroll until the fourth set, the momentum shifted decisively."
"This was not a beautiful match to behold like Tuesday's quarter-final against Nadal. This was a draining war of attrition plagiarised verbatim from the pages of Winning Ugly, the text book written by his former coach Brad Gilbert. And it was precisely what Murray needed.
Entering this semi-final match without having dropped a set, another amble would have been easier on patriotic viewers' nerves but done nothing to prepare him for a final against, we must assume, the immortal Roger Federer.
A sweaty, nail-biting and frankly mediocre performance will have honed his competitive instincts and stiffened his fighting sinew at the perfect time. He will have to play infinitely better against the Fed"
