This has stemmed from a recent airing of south park which portrayed Mohammed. However comedy central censored him. The creators of south park have received a warning/threat from a Muslim revolutionary site.
This hasn't been the first time someone has been threatened for portraying Mohammed/Islam "negatively". Theo van Gogh was murdered for his portrayal of Islam in a film.
So is it offensive to draw Mohammed?
http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/04/may-20-everybody-draw-muhammad-day.html explains that Draw Mohammed day is not to offend the religion but to defend peoples right to express themselves.
I personally think its a way to show militant muslims that we're not afraid of their bullshit threats and they can't force their ideologies onto everyone.

Are you a complete idiot? HEY. HEY!
SNAP OUT OF IT
give up all your idealistic fancy. This is the real world. "Bullshut threats". WTF is wrong with you? Do you remember 9-11? Do you remember the countless terrorist attacks around the worlds, the ones from militant muslims and other demographics?
THEY'RE VERY REAL.
They're not just bullshit threats, because time and time again, they've carried out these attacks. They are no empty threats, so give up your internet macho and realise that your beliefs are plain stupid.
I'm confused.

I'm confused.
Mohammed's been depicted in imagery for centuries, wtf happened?

Thunderf00t did a great video on this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyowM_5YopE
...the video is mirrored because the original was promptly removed from Youtube by Viacom, via a bogus copyright claim... oh the irony!

hm well personally i think its offensive or at least not nice or considerate to draw a religious figure in a negative sort of way. Im sure alot of muslims would feel that way just as a lot of christians would feel offended if God was drawn in a bad way...both are problematic...
HOWEVER the people drawing them haven't commited any fraud or threatened people and its their own private property so i don't believe you should punish those people, since we still have freedom of press etc., it should be perfectly legal to draw. and you know if they started banning such things, where does it stop? then you really have no freedom
and of course if people are allowed to draw muhammed in a negative light, then people should be able to draw any other depiction any way they want without of course calling for violence... because if you agree with one and not the other, its a bit hypocritical...

There are MILLIONS of offensive drawings of Jesus out there. (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=161598113254#!/photo.php?pid=1124667&op=1&o=global&view=global&subj=161598113254&id=1018592830).
Funny how there are no Christians bombing embassies and placing fatwas on people.
These people need to learn that they can;t just go around bombing people every time they get offended.
Here is a picture that I think sums it up nicely: http://www.filibustercartoons.com/comics/20060204.gif

i hope you read the second part
and i dont think thats right either (bombing and death threats) because it just helps reinforce the claims by anti-islamic fear mongerers that muslims are violent etc.
and i also wonder if those cartoon drawings were drawn before the year 2000...what the response would have been...
...and i hope this is not used in a way to justify going to war with them or islamic countries...but they'll probably use some other excuses...

I don't think anyone can beat me with paint

It may be offensive to some, I don't know, but I don't think it's right for it to be censored. I don't believe anything that is offensive should be censored, really, but at the same time, people should be able to choose whether or not they want to see/red/hear it (e.g. drawings of Mohammed shouldn't be slammed into peoples faces).

yep

Well I may find seeing an image offensive, but then again there's probably something on TV every second that is offensive to someone, and I don't think they should censor those out.
The Idea of draw Mohammed day is stupid though, quite childish I reckon.

re: Theo van Gogh, sad story but lol at the irony of a militant Muslim killing him for saying Islam is violent
I hate that word 'militant'. Why not tell it like it is and call a terrorist a terrorist?
-
one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter
-
one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter
And I hate that line as well. Because while it may be true, it doesn't change the fact that he's a terrorist.
If I spend my days blowing up children in order to free my land (a la Chechnya) then I may be a freedom fighter, but I'm certainly a terrorist.
-
freedom? whose freedom?
-
mmmkay then

freedom? whose freedom?
I dunno. Their own? From the evils of Western society?
