Sup guys, thought of making a thread on desktops, seeing how the prosu VN'ers keep their desktop :laugh:
Anyway- I'll cut to the chase, here's mine:

Nothing too fancy, I use to use rainmeter etc.. But that stuff is just too annoying and complicated at times- so a simple rocket docket + Cool wallpaper usually does it for me =)
Note: I usually have some type of SNSD/K-pop band wallpaper, but I thought this wallpaper was neat.

I would, but i started the countdown at about 175 days to go, and in the last 112 days i have forgotten where i got it :( i think i just typed 'countdown clock for desktop' into google.

I use a Mac.
I'm not a gamer, so that aspect does not affect me.
They aren't actually that expensive. If you have a look at the prices, you'll see that they are the same as any decent PC.
I like the design, and the fact that I don't have annoying wires everywhere, or an ugly tower underneath my desk. It's simple, easy to use and does everything I need it to.
Most of the people that hate Macs have never used one (Jb hi fi doesn't count :)). Before you tell me that they're "crap", try using it.

I have mates who are pc technicians, working at dick smith and they all agree mac's are shit compared to PC's.

It all comes back to integration. If all your devices are Mac, integration between them is seamless. Networking has never been easier, and you don't have to worry about lengthy program installations, driver problems and errors that frequent a windows machine.
And it all comes down to should you spend money and save time (and go with a Mac), or spend time and save money (and go with PC)?
I've been using a Mac at work, I've always been a PC fan. For academic purposes, Macs actually have better software and performance. They are good machines, and my next purchase will most likely be with them.
@letsride, of course, techies will always prefer PC because you can upgrade them. However, you must consider who and why someone would use a Mac, these are probably people who don't care about the pricetag and just want the computer to work without any hassel. Luckily, these people congregate on this platform and all the software are developed with the same philosophy that they perform their function without any hassel. Some two minute thing on Mac can often take me half an hour on windows.

Thankyou, Mao. Those are my thoughts exactly.
One thing that I noticed immediately (moving from XP to Mac OS X), is the efficiency of the search tool. I remember waiting for the search tool to search through all my files to find something that I wanton a PC; with a Mac, the same search can be done in seconds. All the software (e.g. Mail, iTunes, iPhoto etc.) just make my life so much easier. No hassles.

It's not the same. I just find that everything on a Mac works better and more seamlessly than on a PC, even with the same specs. The fact that the OS was built for the computer, and not vice versa, is what I think sets Macs and PCs apart. There are no compatibility problems that plague PC users.

I don't like Macs, whenever I used them at school they annoyed me so much. they were slow, somewhat unresponsive and I think they're quite an eyesore, even without the excessive wires. plus, the cost seems to me, purely unreasonable. to each their own I suppose

Graphing data (read: up to millions of data points). In Windows, this will involve launching Excel for small datasets (/dies, because y'know, excel is so efficient and all) or a proper software such as Mathematica. These programs are heavy on the processor, and unless it's a bloody good computer (and I consider my machine as decent) or you are a very patient person, you might as well jump off a cliff. On the Mac, a simple lightweight software called 'proFit' can handle it all with ease, generate nice graphs, and doesn't lag up the computer.
I also accidentally (and quite frequently) open text files that are as large as ~50mb. Tried that on a Windows machine? It dies. The Mac doesn't complain that much at all.
So when I do my work on the windows, it'll usually involve me having to kill a process and start again because I accidentally tried to do something stupid and cause a program to hang. You can argue that's my mistakes, but should I change my habits for my computer, or should I find a computer that works for me?
[This is a comparison between one of the old Mac Mini (snow leopard) vs an C2D-2Ghz/2Gb-RAM/W7 laptop and AMD-X6/4gb-RAM/W7 desktop, it's definitely not the hardware, it's the operating system.]
PS - Also, Macs are much easier to network. SSH and things of that like are built in, where on Windows I have to use an SFTP client to connect to a commercial mainframe and most of the time have to control everything through another SSH client (read: millions of windows), on the Mac I can easily map SFTP drives into 'Finder' (counterpart to Explorer), and the built in command prompt in OSX works as the SSH client, which happen to have transparency settings and can be customized, which makes window management SO much easier. And don't get me started on printer sharing over network...
PPS - it's not that PC have less power than Mac, but can you understand my point that, as a Windows user, the things I used to waste time on all of a sudden have disappeared when I switched to Macintosh.

As you can see very organised (just like my room), i actually couldnt be bothered cleaning up the icons...solution? i turned all the icons off, instead of cleaning it i just hid it (sort of like my room again) as for the wallpaper, its hard to find HD wallpaper that doesnt suck(suggestions?)

Well, IE came pre-installed. Chrome; I just wanted to see how fast it really was. Haven't bothered uninstalling it. Firefox is the way to go though. :)
