Title: Pre-UMAT jitters/Med Places

So in the nervous wait before UMAT, I've decided to get a little info on where/what would give me the best chance at med if my UMAT score fails to be high enough for Monash...

As a point of interest, I'm hoping for ~99 ATAR, I do an Enhancement subject, and who knows what my UMAT score will be.

So with these predictions, albeit vague - which uni would give me the best chances for a spot? Is Monash one of the most competitive, or are there others that would give me a better chance, particularly in NSW/QLD if needs be.

Thanks in advance, and I realise this is very vague, but I can't really go on much without scores hahaha

I can't really give you much advice on this, but I would say the two most important things are to remain calm and to most importantly try and ensure you finish.

Monash is the most competitive out there and it is difficult to get in because of the way they set floor marks for the UMAT before they combine UMAT/ATAR.

If I was going to go anywhere I would try for UNSW.  They use a sliding scale so the higher your ATAR is the lower you UMAT can be and vice versa.  I just missed out on an interview there last year because my UMAT was deplorable.

UQ I believe isn't particularly hard when compared to the others to get into either so long as you can manage the 50/50/50 rule, which is easier said than done.

Some other no-UMAT alternatives are JCU which is interview/ATAR only and Griffith which is combined BMedSc/MBBS based only on ATAR.  Last year the Griffith cut off was 99.65.  Not really sure how good the uni is though and if you are not in the top 70% GPA wise then you will end up with a bonded spot.  They do offer scholarships though, so make sure you apply to them.

And then there is USyd who have 99.95 Guaranteed Entry and UMelb who have 99.90 and above Guaranteed Entry.  Both of these are subject to adequate performance in an interview though.

Cheers brandy, I actually have been looking at UNSW as being the best alternative, but yeah all depends on the UMAT...

And I don't think I'll need to worry about the guaranteed 99.90 though haha, I think I'm quite a way from getting that :P
