...in the university discussion section, on university maths :)
okay, so i might be highly biased on this, buuuuuut there are so many students on this forum who either do UMEP maths or monash extension maths, or are doing maths at uni. and i know there's already a UMEP maths forum, but with people like ahmad going into uni next year, and people like coblin, enwiabe, and i already at uni doing maths, it'd be useful to have a whole forum on it. especially for tips on assignments, what courses to do, and recreational problems to set each other from a much more difficult level requiring uni level maths. it'd be fun! :D
-
Yeah, that would be great! :)
-
yay! have a whole board dedicated to maths section!!!

woot

This would be fun. I'm all for it! :)
-
nice idea!

enwiabe is in Ahmad's year level. He's not at university :P
I think we should just rename the UMEP thread to refer to either maths program.
-
Sorry, but is the request for a University Math board or an Enhancement Studies Math board (incorporating UMEP and Monash Enhancement Math)?
-
I'm pretty sure it's for Uni Math.
-
Hmm, this is a tough one! This site is VCE-oriented, therefore there shouldn't be any tertiary forums.
-
I don't know, but like in BoS, they should be tertiary forums (small section) and the main VCE forums. It'll just be more worthwhile to stay for 1st and 2nd year students :p
-
That's a good point, but I could see enwiabe disagreeing with the idea of creating a tertiary-based forum.
I suppose the question then becomes, 'what do we have to do to attract and keep those that have already completed VCE, with the idea that they will assist current VCE students?'.
-
what do we have to do to attract and keep those that have already completed VCE, with the idea that they will assist current VCE students?
Exactly. I don't want to see great people leave after VCE as it doesn't cater for them anymore, like Akira. :( :(
-
If there is a maths board there should be an arts board. Lots of FSNers are planning on doing an arts related course this year.

Yeh, but I don't think that was the sole reason he/she left.

lolz, i realised that a few days later. hadn't really been on enough at the time to know who's who.
-
but anyway, back to the original point. just because this is a VCE message board doesn't mean there shouldn't be uni forums on here as well. i like eriny's idea for an arts page too.
it would be easy to just generally make a university forum with several child forums - science, arts, commerce/economics/finance, engineering and so on. these forums could serve several purposes:
- yr12 students doing UMEP/MUEP/other university extension courses could post in them, as they currently do in the UMEP maths forum
- yr12 students interested in applying for those degrees could post in them asking for advice from former yr12 students now at uni, as they currently do in the general university discussion forum
- former yr12 students now at uni doing those degrees (such as myself :) ) could post in them discussing courses, posing problems to each other, comparing different courses and all that
of course there could still be a general university discussion page for things that don't fit into particular degrees, such as how to apply for uni, discussing the merits of different universities, staying at colleges, etc etc.
but in general i think that a setup like this would be quite useful. it would increase the incentive of former yr12s to stay on FSN while at uni, and would be quite beneficial to them (people stuck on, say, a 1st year physics assignment at uni could post on one of the forums asking for help).
-
I have no problem with it. The more people we can cater for, ultimately the better. I could just see enwiabe having a problem with it, because its a VCE forum (thinks back to when a user asked for a University field).
-
I have no problem with university discussion. I think it would actually be very profitable for FSN to retain its outgoing VCE'ers... I just don't want to focus on it until the VCE part is up. As soon as the full site goes live, I'll work on a sensible way of structuring the university discussion forums.

There we go, I was half right :)
