Title: Is Legal Studies harder now due to the course change???
Post by: yesyes123 on July 29, 2011, 08:30:39 pm
What do you guys think? Harder now, as the course has changed?
What are the differences with this new course from the last design?

Not really, It's just VCAT isn't it?

Course is probably the same level of difficulty, the main change I've noticed though is that the exam is now out of 65, not 60.

Yeah, it's 70!

I think that with the high expectations for quality and quantity of written responses in LS, the increase in marks makes the exam and thus the subject substantially harder.

Do you guys think the A+ cutoff will be low this year?

lol, nobody can make such a broad assumption without even seeing the exam! but hopefully since it's 70 marks (which by default, disadvantages slow lefties like me) they'll make the exam easy for a new study design. but you never know, look what happened with psych, 20.5 marks cut-off.. so no clue really

at school our exams are tailored to be 90mintues 90 marks. So the change for the exam really makes no difference for me and EPL. Except its 20 marks less, and we get an extra 30 minutes.

Yeh, I don't think the increase in marks makes that much of a difference. I'm just expecting more 2-mark/3-mark/4-mark (short-answer) questions to be honest, which is simple enough if you know your material. I don't think the course has gotten any harder; VCAA has just re-worded and adjusted parts in certain AOS's in the course. VCAT is one change as was pointed out. The difficulty in this subject lies in the fact that we're expected to remember/know a whole year's worth of information, to be tested in a 2-hour exam at the end of the year. It's hard to know what to really expect in the exam, seeing as it's in the first year of a new study design. I wouldn't worry/speculate as to the A+ cut-off just yet; just give the exam your best possible shot and see how it all goes.

Alternatively we can, later on in the year, make a 'Mark my Response' thread like we did in BM for the 10 marker. You post your response to a question, everyone marks it and gives criticism.

As the exam gets progressively closer, we can do what burbs suggested earlier in the year.
