Title: UMEP Maths or Physics
Post by: Lasercookie on August 15, 2011, 11:10:46 pm
Is it possible to do UMEP Maths or Physics without attending a school centre (e.g. most MUEP courses you can study off-campus)?

I don't live anywhere near Scotch College (where UMEP Physics is held) nor are there any close UMEP Maths centres (closest one is 1+ hour train ride away at an inconvenient time that would most likely clash with my school timetable). There used to be a nearby school centre for UMEP maths, but they haven't been running it for the last couple of years :(

Do I have any options or should I just give up on the idea of being able to do a UMEP subject?

Maybe consider muep if it's more convenient, I really don't think you can take umep maths at anywhere except a school centre, I can't speak for physics but I would suspect there is lab work involved... Definitely don't give up on your chances of studying an enhancement subject, try and find something that works for you. Good luck!

Apparently lab work is run over the holidays at Melbourne Uni - so I would be able to attend those.

I would go for MUEP - but the fees involved are too expensive. $450 per semester, that'd add up to $900 a year, not including textbook fees. The total costs would end up being over $1000 easily :|.

I'll have to talk to my VCE coordinator, maybe try to get in contact with that other school and see what the deal there is.
