Who else is going, if only to collect free coffee and donuts?
There are a bunch of youtube videos for Open Day that have students discussing the quality of the education they receive how great the campus location is.
-
I'm going! The line for the coffee's probably gonna be long though..
-
Just get in early :P
What are you going to be looking at/for?
-
Arts :D
and just get a general feel for the campus I guess
-
Yep i'm going! is there anything in particular you reckon we should check out??
-
I'll be going. I'm glad that this year, I've found another prospective Arts student to come with me. Because honestly, traipsing around the campus last year with a future Biomed/Science student just about killed me. Heh. Except when we were lining up for free sausages. That was pretty awesome.
-
Melbourne Graduate School of Business and Economics - be prepared!
Don't tell me I didn't warn you.
-
I'm going! Probably to check out actuary and maybe biomed :)
Is train/tram recommended? I've heard that parking is hard to find (I'm not an early bird...)
-
Do not drive if you can avoid it, I'm getting there at 9-9.30 and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to pay for parking :(
-
Im catching the 8:13 train from geelong to get there :\, hopefully my friend actually knows what tram to catch to get to UoM from the train station, lol.

Tram number 19 is what I normally use.
8:13 train is probably going to arrive at like 9:15ish (according to the vline website anyway...) I think most of the open day stuff starts at 10 :/

MHS kids come support us at the Maths Olympiad :P Gotta beat MacRob!!

Who's the team? If JPK is there, we can't lose, he's uber-beast

There will be plenty of stuff to do earlier. If his train arrives at Southern Cross at 9.15, he won't be at the uni before 9.40 anyway.

OMG can't believe I forgot about JPK when I was building the team! Team is: JW, MH, HG, ST (yr11 version of JPK) and me lol

:o Well there are still some very good mathematicians there, we should win. Although, JPK :(
Good luck though :)

I'll probably be going

Would love to go but I"m a sick turtle.

If you want to drive, the Eastern Precinct Car Park is the cheapest: 5 bucks for the whole day (access is from Cardigan Street near Elgin Street). There is always parking available there. Uni square car parking is 7 bucks, but you might not find a park there (although I'm not sure how it is on weekends).

Have a look here: http://www.pcs.unimelb.edu.au/services/parking/car_parks

o yea, went to see my sister compete in this last year. looked a bit hecticcccccccccccccc :o

I think it was better than Monash's tbh, the info was WAY easier to find and there were more melb uni ppl there to help. BUT they need more room in biomed, i was too crammed in one corner :(
-

This goes without saying, jeez :P
BUT they need more room in biomed, i was too crammed in one corner :(
It had to be held in a theatre in the med building and the Sunderland is the biggest one there. The 10am session was practically empty compared to the 1pm session
-
Much better than RMIT in my opinion, friendly people all over the place. The robotics room with cars made by Lego was awesome.
EDIT: Tsfx people being there and trying to hand out brochures, so annoying...

I was in the later session, so that might explain it :)

I'm still full from all the food I had today. Filled myself up with croissants at the morning tea for extension students. Then got free pizza after coming third in maths olympiad, beat macrob but lost to scotch (dam you dr he's son) and then BBQ somewhere :P
I found the actuarial lecture by the Dr Wu pretty interesting haha :P
other than that fun day since weather was so nice
-
Yeah, the actuarial lecture was pretty good. Stupid ass lawyer :P He should of hired an actuary!
BUT THE DAY OVERALL FOR ME WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME. I took loads of freebies and had many laughs with friends :D ... OH, I also learnt that actuarial studies is pretty awesome (H).
-
Finally! An Open Day at UoM were there wasn't inclement weather.
-
lol, i still remember going to that actuarial sample lecture, he uses the same example each year....

Yeah, when I got there I immediately went for espresso and everyone was all "OMG SUN"
-
Yeah I thought it was a pretty good open day.
I was mainly hanging around the maths and physics buildings, talking to people there. There was a really interesting guy (graduate student or phd student I believe) that was working on the ATLAS project, had a good hour long chat with him.
I did go to the engineering area - that room was packed and really stuffy.
Did anyone else buy that MAV maths revision book they were selling? I've heard MAV are kind of easy, but I ended up buying the specialist book anyway; so I had some questions to take a look at over the next few months/early next year.

Quite informative. This was my first open day, enjoyed it. Loved the Chemistry building, cool stuff in there.
