Title: Best Physics Revision Lectures?
Post by: LinusX on August 24, 2011, 03:01:56 pm
Went to TSFX for methods last yr and I hated it, dont really know about neap. Any good ones people have gone to? I think it would be good to know which lectures to attend so that we can book early and I find that not many people know about physics revision lectures.

I went to the Physics Unit 3 TSFX lecture earlier this year. I didn't enjoy it.

I'm planning on going to the Connect Education lecture for Unit 4. I heard good stuff about them for Unit 3, so I'm expecting this should be good.

Yeah i'm going to Connect Education too. I've only heard good things and also some of them are AN'ers.
I went to TSFX for unit 3 and i'm going to agree with laseredd in saying they weren't that great. Their notes were fairly comprehensive, but a lot of it covers basic stuff to add volume.

TSFX, the only reason (other than help from VN) that I got an A+ in mid-years. Their notes are gold and the lecturers are very qualified teachers (eg. a PhD dude, the vice-chief assessor, etc.).

I can't really speak for any other lectures though, so I might be a bit biased :P

I'm guessing that most of us would be biased - I don't think there would be many who would go to 6 different lectures lol.

I reckon the TSFX lecture and notes, while the lecturers were pretty good, spent too much time on the basic stuff. A good lecture that I did learn a lot from was the Melb. Uni lecture for the KLD/UMEP students, that skipped all the stuff that you would be expected to know and went right into the intricate stuff. I guess it depends on what you're looking for with a lecture.

I just registered for this: http://www.vu.edu.au/future-students/secondary-schools/year-11-and-12-students/vce-summary-lectures
I'm kind of wary of going to Footscray though (probably irrational, but I don't want to get stabbed).

I suppose it depends on your needs. I needed the basic stuff pretty badly :P

lol, I live even more west than that. Footscray is child's play to where I am :P

While you mention the VU lectures - I personally recommend chem, Neale Peters takes it. He was my chem teacher last year, and he's ridiculously good. Seriously knows his stuff, teaches it very well, and has a very subtle sense of humour.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll try the ConnectEducation lectures. Went to the VU ones for Unit 3 and personally found it a bit of a waste of time - but then again I was pretty good with Unit 3. Who knows, I might go the VU lectures just in case - not so good with Unit 4 :(

And yeah, Neale Peters is cool, defs recommend him.

Is the VU lecture worth going to for unit 4 if I have to travel 1.5 hours to get to Footscray?

Definitely.

Btw, just went to TSFX physics, the lecturer was actually quite good!

LOL! you guys make me want to go to lectures now, but I still am skeptical about the high costs of companies like TSFX :S
I don't want a massive dint in my pocket =.="

lol, I thought $90 for TSFX was expensive. Then I saw their prices for Unit 4 - $150 a lecture :/

I bought the three volumes of The Feynman Lecture's on Physics for cheaper than that.... I'm sure those would beat any notes that TSFX could churn out :P

There's Victoria Uni lectures if you want to give lectures a try.

That's what I'm thinking, because if I'm going for the notes, I can just buy other stuff, or grab the notes of someone who went last year, for example, and no way are notes worth the amount they charge - that's provided you don't learn much from the actual lecture itself

Is the TSFX lecturer Doctor Wilmoth?

Is the TSFX lecturer Doctor Wilmoth?
The brochure says: Mr. Geoff Davies and Dr. Greg Wilmoth.
They both did the Unit 3 lecture, they know their stuff and can explain well.

ditto for unit 4
