Title: Pass down your wisdom: Which Revision Lectures?
Post by: MashiMaro780 on September 11, 2011, 06:40:11 pm
It's almost that time of the year again, so please share your experiences! (i.e. GIMME ADVICE!)

Here's where I plan to go:

Specialist maths: MAV or Access Education or Derrick Ha (please help me decide?? advice please!)
Eng lang : VATE or Access
Chem: Access
Bus Man: Access or CPAP (anyone been to this? worth going or not?)
Methods: Same as spesh. Or just study at home.

And I refuse to go to tsfx because it'll break the bank. I also hate long lectures (went to a Engage methods lecture last year, ~6.5 hours wasted)
Engage might look like good value for money... but 6.5 hours of constantly listening to people eating, leaving and entering the room and whispering loudly around you can really drive you nuts. Though their accounting lecture wasn't too bad. Still, in my opinion: LONG=UNPRODUCTIVE

So where are you guys thinking of going? What about newer players like Connect or Pathway? Anyone went to their unit 3 lectures?

Specialist maths: I'd say Derrick Ha. Only heard good things about his lectures so that's the one i'm going to.
Eng lang : Out of those two go to VATE. But personally i'd recommend Connect Education
Chem: Connect Education is the way to go for chem. But their chem lecture is on the same day for VATE english language. (You could go to Connect English Language on the 15th and then Connect Chemistry on the 16th)
Bus Man: I have no idea about Bus Man, sorry.
Methods: Derrick Ha, once again.

Neap was very good for legal studies last year.

Heard from quite a few people (including lecturers) that Access is more a short overview that doesn't really go into that much depth and as such won't help you considerably if your aiming to get high scores (which you are) and know the course reasonably well.
I'm going to Connect for Bio as their product in terms of pricing and goods is more substantial than some companies such as TSFX

You mean the free ones? I booked the chem one some time ago but I'm not sure whether I will go. It's all the way in Footscray so I have to travel about 1.5 hours just to get there. Is 3 hours wasted on public transport really worth it?

Even though I haven't been, I'm going to say no, it's not worth it, because by the time you factor in everything else you've wasted way more than half a day :P

I didn't end up going to the VU ones ^^"
btw. Nice job on the UMAT

Derrick Ha was really good! I only went to the spesh lecture but I should've gone to methods as well. He was very knowledgeable and I learnt more than I expected from the lecture. I definitely recommend him to people who are going to do spesh or methods next year.
