Is it possible to do math methods without units 1&2?
If not, do you think the course would be difficult to learn across summer holidays?

I know many people who haven't done Methods 1/2 but still did 3/4 (in year 11) and got remarkable scores (48+ SS). Then again, those people did work very hard and were already good with understanding mathematical concepts.
I personally think it can be done with hard work and a bit of skill/determination =).
It will be a big kick in the backside though (if you don't have a strongish mathematical foundation).
That's just my 2 cents.

This. If youre good at maths you'll pick it up easily.

Personally, I'm not great naturally at maths and I shudder at the idea of doing methods 3/4 without the 1/2. But that said, loads of people do the 3/4 course over the summer holidays so I presume you could probably do the same for 1/2. If you're good at maths it's probably possible. :)

There is no measure of whether or not i'm a 'math minded' person. So let's just say: a person whom is below average at math learns units 1&2 through the school holidays, is it manageable?

Lol, yes, easily.
Honestly, 1/2 methods is pretty easy, I personally find Probability to be the most annoying topic, but everything else is quite straight forward.
If you have a solid foundation with Trig functions/graphs, logarithms and calculus, MM 3/4 won't be that much of a hassle.
I wouldn't do the whole 1/2 course, btw. Only do the 'main' parts of 1/2 ( i.e don't do probability because permutations aren't in the 3/4 course).

Yep. Everyone in my methods class last year hadn't done 1/2 and although some obviously did better than others, by the time the exam came I don't think anyone was disadvantaged by the lack of foundation from the 1/2 course. If you were to do some or all of the course over the holidays, you'd be in a very good position if you're willing to keep up to date throughout the year.

had no idea vcaa allows people to do methods 3/4 without the 1/2. I did shockingly in the latter, but found that every bit of 1/2 helped improve my ability for 3/4, and I'm pretty sure it says in the study design that the 1/2 course is assumed knowledge. if you work reallyreallyreally hard, judging by the anecdotes provided by others above, it seems it'll be okay though. good luck if you do it!
