1. Many schools don't offer it.
2. The way a lot of schools teach history prior to VCE can turn off a LOT of kids. Especially learning Australian history like 5 times. I only started enjoying history class when we started learning about other countries and stuff. Aztecs - good times.
3. VCE History subjects are pretty difficult.

Is it better to have less people doing a particular subject ? since there is less competition.

not necessarily,
less people = less 50's
so it's all relatively the same, in my opinion though, less popular subjects (with the exclusion of languages) aren't 'constructed' well in terms of SACs and.. perhaps exams, although VCAA screw up almost any exam (eg accounting last year)
and there are fewer resources

No. If you want a 50 in Ren you need to get 80/80 on the exam and have perfect SACs, because there are only half a dozen kids getting above 45 every year, so they're all really outstanding. I loved it though, it was entirely worth getting a lower mark than in another subject.

TBH I'm hoping to get 35 which will be scaled to 39.

How much did you get ?

Something around there, I ended up with a scaled score a bit above 40, so probably 36 or so?
