Are they even allowed to do that? I wanted to do year 12 further maths this year (I'm in year 11) and they told me that although I'm good at maths, I have to have done units 1 and 2 before I'm allowed to progress through to units 3 and 4. Is that even true or are they just bullshitting me?
Now I can only do 5 subjects and my ATAR will be ruined :( I feel like I'm the only one in the whole VCE that's not accelerating a subject.

For further you do not have to do Units 1/2 (well you didn't last year unless it has changed). I did further in yr 11 without doing gen standard. Ended up doing three maths last year(meth 1/2, gen adv, further), it was so good, even second class was maths!
But yeh they shouldn't be allowed to stop you. Argue you case and maybe get your parents involved. As long as you have good results (in maths) they should let you do it.

Sorry guys even though it says yr 11 I read it as yr 10 for some reason ><

There's usually two sets of rules, VCAA's rules and your school's rules
You might be fully able to do Further Maths by VCAA's rules, but if your school says no, there really is nothing you can do
Considering that it's too late to do anything now, I'd recommend you to do 5 VCE Subjects, so obviously for you, it'd be an English, Methods, Specialist Maths and 2 other subjects.
On top of that you can do Enhancement Maths (UMEP/MUEP), which you'll probably enjoy more than Further anyway
The school can't stop you from doing MUEP/UMEP
-
Also there is some VCAA rule that you have to have at least 80 (or it may be 100 or something like that) hours of time in class to pass e.t.c
Sorry I can't find the link.

They can stop you if they want. You need school permission for UMEP (probably for MUEP as well). I know for UMEP at least:

Yeah, MUEP has the same kind of form:

edit: I've heard of people contacting VCAA and getting them to waive the school rules on subjects etc. I'm not sure what the process for that is though.

Is it still too late to do university maths? I want to do it but the two people in my specialist class who are doing it said they applied for it about 2 months ago. Plus, I'm not much of an all-rounder. I'm doing very well in maths, okay at english but terrible at german and chemistry.

No, it's not too late. You still have a few weeks to apply for either UMEP or MUEP.
I think the MUEP forms only came out recently.
UMEP applications close: Friday 18 November 2011
MUEP applications close: 9 December 2011

Wow awesome! I'm really interested in doing that! What is the difference between UMEP and MUEP? If I want to apply, do I have to drive to the university and ask them? What days are they open?
-
DEFS just add on a Uni Enhancement - UMEP Maths is awesome (slightly harder course than MUEP, but more widely recognised for credit at unis - my cousin did MUEP then went to Melb Uni, it wasn't counted as credit b/c the UMEP course covers more, whereas Monash will generally accept UMEP as credit)
-
I don't know about the actually course content difference, but I have heard UMEP is more interesting. You don't have to drive there to apply I'm pretty sure, you can get application forms from the website and then send them in.
I enquired and you can't do UMEP over a distance education kind of thing (they want you to go to the school centre each week), but you can for some MUEP subjects. Most of the school centres are in Melbourne, which is quite annoying if you are pretty much nowhere near a school centre. Hopefully it'll be within decent travel time for you.
Unfortunately MUEP also comes with a hefty fee ($450 a semester, not including textbooks etc.). About prerequisites, it seems that there's usually an alternate way in (e.g. a test or something). I don't know if this is true, but I've heard that Monash is slightly more lenient (don't quote me on that).

First you were saying that you don't care about your ATAR, don't want to go to Uni and just want a 50 in Spesh?
Now you're saying you don't want your ATAR to be ruined?
Mods, please ban OP for trolling.

I never said I don't care about my ATAR, I just aren't going to stress about it as much as other people. As for university, I said I'm not sure, not that I'm not going to go. And I still care about my ATAR to some degree. I don't care in the sense that if I got anything over 95 it would all be the same to me, but I don't want to get a horrible ATAR like below an 85.

this is what i'd do

An 85 isn't horrible...
