So with exams right around the corner how is everyone's preparation going, and what kind of prep are you doing? Also is it just VCAA past papers we can do?
-
I think there are also some JLTAV Japanese papers that you can do. I only have one as I went to that Yr 12 Morning thing for Japanese held at Monash Uni, earlier in Term 3.
Also, you can possibly grab some practice exams from The Leading Edge Japanese book. My teacher uses this book as a supplementary to class teaching and VCAA exams. It has a couple of full exams, and random reading/listening tasks integrated throughout the book.
Of course, you can also do the older study designs of VCAA Jap. On the VCAA website, it shows 2002-2004 exams in the old study design, which seems pretty relevant except for the part where you have to respond in Japanese to a text by writing a little essay... You'll understand if you look through those papers.
Make sure that you write regularly and get your teacher to mark it.

Eeeps i dont have time to write essays for japanese!... But yeah when i have time i'll just go through VCAA exams and the leading edge book...
how do you think a written piece will go if i use basic-moderate vocab and weakish ideas. eg:
like if we had to talk about how we celebrate new years in australia and these are my paras/ideas:
-most people have holidays which is different to japan
-we go to parties and bbqs -> expand on what you do
-go to the beach and watch fireworks or in the city
stuff like that... lol
Cos that's what i'll be doing :s

I think it's safer to use basic grammar + vocab that you know you will get right, rather than risk it with complex grammar that you might stuff up. Of course, an easy way to make your essay slightly more complex is to throw in a relative clause here or there.
But if you're not confident, simple is best.
For me, after my Chem exam, i have a couple of days to cram some Jap in. I don't think i plan to do any jap before then, though...maybe just revise over some grammar patterns.

Same! hahahah well, i need to improve my essays.... ill just cram for jap and see how it turns out :P

Haha I'm so lucky i have 10 days of no exams before my jap exam :P Well apart from viscom...but that doesnt count! But anyways the big gap will make up for zero study I have done for jap these past couple of weeks :)

You could use an easy grammar point that isn't in the VCE course to make yourself look smart, I guess.
One that's pretty versitile that comes to mind is を問わず.
The template for it is pretty much:
[Noun]を問わず、Clause。
It means "regardless of".
Eg.
試合は晴雨を問わず行われる。 = The game will be held rain or shine.
泳げることを問わず、ビーチは楽しい所だ。 = Regardless of whether you can swim, the beach is a fun place.
国籍を問わず、皆はお菓子が好きだ。 = Everyone likes confectionary, regardless of nationality.
Edit: Fixed epic phail typo.

I just have chem and Jap cos im in year 11!!
With the listening section are you going to take down notes in Jap, eng, or romaji? I usually go english but translating it while trying to listen can be a challenge sometimes
-
I write in English faster than kanji/kana but instantaneous translation is often hard so I almost never take notes in English...
Hence, I almost always write in romaji. Just write it down as I hear it :)

Hmm, yeah, romaji is the way to go. It's always easier to write down exactly what you hear... However, i have this horrible habit of automatically translating whatever i hear into English, then i switch to hiragana, then i switch back to english, then i remind myself i SHOULD be writing in romaji...
But i guess i'm doing better with constant practice.
-
I always start writing in romaji then somehow write it in english then i realise i have hiragana....
So i my 'notes' are in different forms... hahah so annoying!!
-
do u guys know how to get the answers for JLTAV and The leading edge??
-
How to study? Watch anime and drama of course :)
I'm not joking btw.
