May be a silly question but....
Does VCAA care if we use two pen colours?
i.e.
If i write my essay in black
and then edit it with blue?
It won't affect scanning or anything?
-
I dont think it will, it may appear lighter on the screen if they scan it but that's about it. It should be fine! :)
-
I wanted to use black for context and blue for lang analysis and text response (would there be anything wrong with this)?? -- sorry weird question but alas these are the last minute exam worries!
-
i dont undertstand, why dont you all just use the same colour throughout and save yourself from these unnecessary issues?
-

Because you have a 4pen and want to balance the colour usage :)
-
I doubt it's a big deal anyway, but it definitely doesn't matter if you write different sections in a specific colour since different examiners mark different sections
-
why write in a four pen
enjoy having your hand die because you have to press so hard to get it to write decently, or otherwise its so faint and looks like shit
get inky uniballs you twats
glides across the paper, no stress on the hand
-
No problems with the VCAA supervisors?
Anyone else planning to do it?
-
^ signo is the shit
-
inb4 nacho
Anyway, my friend wrote one of his essays in 4 different colours on the trial exam. He got his highest mark from that essay.
It is a sign people.
-
Could someone pleasetell me whether we have to fill out our student number in both letters and numbers on all three task books? This seems as though it will take at least 3 minutes and just waste time!
-
you can do that during reading time you massive goose
-
continuing the trend of last minute anxiety issues
-
^ it's a fair question considering that during exam reading times you're not even supposed to pick up your pens :\
-
serious question?
-
I don't see why you can't :P
-
serious question?
Yes, why wouldn't it be? Improves concentration
-
as in bring your own watch or using a stop watch in the exam
-
Erghhh.. Good question. I know that the supervisors will make us fill it out straight after reading time.... So yes, we will be wasting precious time. But i think i will just leave it to the end. And if they tell me off for filling it in then i will have a bitch about it lol.
-
you can bring your own watch soo
-
Are we allowed to leave it until the end? Like, can we fill it out after writing time has finished or something?
It's such a waste of time......seriously
-
serious question?
Yes, why wouldn't it be? Improves concentration
really?
-
it'd be pretty distracting for the people near you wouldn't?
-
LOL, I was actually thinking the exact same thing last night!
I don't think it should be a problem, but... no harm checking?
-
your jaw would be killing you after 3 hours.
-
bringing own watch
-
careful it could have a laxative effect.... :P you don't want that happening espcially if its 2 hours in and starts to kick in ;)
-
As long as your watch isn't on your wrist, it's fine
I'll be bringing my own watch
-
why cant we wear it?!
-
alright thanks :)
-
Hahah, true, and also, you do realise that it'd be a bit weird if you had to get up and go to the bin to spit it out if you decide you can't chew anymore :P
-
Are you sure we're allowed a digital watch? If I recall correctly they specifically stated (in the exam navigator) that you aren't allowed to bring in a digital watch/watch that has stopwatch capabilities?
Not 100% sure on this, however.
-
seems pretty pointless
and it opens frontiers to cheat(you can write quotes on the gum, and inflate it in times of need)

And then it'd go pop and give you away!
-
Wearing of a watch of any type during an examination is not permitted. All watches must be removed and placed at the top of the student’s table/desk, where they can be seen clearly and easily by Supervisors.
Where there is any doubt about the functions of any watch displayed, Supervisors are authorised to remove the watch from the table/desk and retain it in their care for the duration of the examination.
Stopwatches or watches with special functions such as an alarm or stopwatch are not permitted in the examination room.
I'm guessing that you won't be able to bring in a digital watch. You'll have to use a regular watch and keep track of time manually.
-
hmm still quite vague
"functions" refer to stop watch? :S
-
The multiple colours probably induced the assessor into a seizure or trance!

DOOOOOOOOOOONTT
Here's what happened last year.
Methods exam 2, decided to pop a piece of watermelon flavoured 5 gum in my mouth.
Got nervous during exam, started chewing like crazy....
Next thing you know, the gum, i kid you not, turns into liquid, so i basically had this massive amount of saliva mixed with gum in my mouth.
There were no bins nearby, and i didnt want to swallow it (thats what she said), so i basically had this pool of liquid sitting in my mouth for like the last 20 mins of the exam...
-
eh, during the end of my english practice exam we were supposed to fill in the booklets with the details as practice when I left til the end and I just had the title of my context to write down when time was up and my english teacher snapped up my booklet before I could finish writing it down to give the "real atmosphere" of the exam
or perhaps she was just being way too anal - but point taken - just get the info down asap.
-
Would we be allowed to write the details before the exam starts? As in, just before reading time when the examiners are checking everything? I remember this happened in midyears - I saw other people filling in their details so I just followed suit.
-
I think we can ONLY use black or blue pen.
Personally I'm writing the title and subheadings for my context piece in Black and everything else in Blue.
-
if someone near you complains which i bet they will since is so silent and if u chew loud then

do NOT do this. the examiners clearly state they will NOT give you extra time at the end of your exam to fill in the formalities
-
hah okay, well i've come to the conclusion that the negatives outweigh the benefits
-
you're allowed to chew gum at school? lol.
-
I thought you can't bring food and colored/flavoured drinks into the examination room
Food=anything you can place in your mouth that this able to be disintegrated and swallowed if you want without harm done
-

last year in methods i left it to the end to fill, the examiner was nice enough to wait for me to fill in my booklet :) and i also did this for mid years too ^^
-
I wouldn't risk waiting until the end. Perhaps ask an examiner prior to/during reading time about what is and isn't acceptable. If they tell you that you can do it at the end, just do that.
-
you can do that during reading time you massive goose
Why the hate man, what did they ever do to you?
-
why do they make us write the numbers as words? are they checking to see if we are computers or something?
-
why do they make us write the numbers as words? are they checking to see if we are computers or something?
In case they cannot decipher one of the numbers/words.
But yeah it is stupid.
-
why do they make us write the numbers as words? are they checking to see if we are computers or something?
UH YEAH.. REALLY THEY ARE CHECKING TO SEE IF WE ARE COMPUTERS
BECAUSE COMPUTERS CAN ONLY WRITE NUMBERS AND NOT WORDS.
-
it's a captcha for rl
-
Use anything but red pen. It doesnt show up when scanned apparently. Mate's physics paper had to get marked separately cos he wrote in red.
-
why cant we wear it?!
incase you have a ben10 watch which gives you the ability to transform into a genius
-
17 Hours.
It's nearly over.
13 years of learning about the language we already know was not a pointless waste of time ::)
SO WHOSE EXCITED!?

excited to get higher than you in the exam

that was as painful to read as it is to look at your name... I want a nacho.

when i saw who plus repped me, i thought to myself 'how can he be bothered typing that in?'
-
I think I can do "much much more" study tonight, but I am "confused" as my "conscience" is telling me I "have the power to knock" off English for good, and instead of sitting in "silence" and not doing anything, I should "finish what I started" and GG that English exam!
-

Food=anything you can place in your mouth that this able to be disintegrated and swallowed if you want without harm done
therefore milk is not a food for the lactose intolerant and so they are allowed to bring it in and stink that shit up?
-
I took a stop watch kind of device into mid year and was allowed it.
Im taking it in to my english one because it is crucial to help me in timing.
The worst they can do is take it off me correct?
-

That can be read in two ways
it can also be read backwards, therefore 3 ways

Oh I don't, it automatically logs in

This bird. Outside my study. Has been hooting ALL day, EVERYDAY, while I've been studying for the past week.
So what's everyone else up to in these last few hours before the exam?
I'm not really killing birds, I'm actually reading essays and looking over my notes.
No writing today. Hands must rest.
-
after exam, go each lunch. then fap. then sleep. then more exam prep. then more fap.
-
In the past two hours we have had a lot of these topics. Merged them into one. Please keep all of this stuff here so that the English board isn't inundated with questions about all of this - topics about texts etc. are getting pushed down.
And in general: if you have to ask if you can do it, you probably can't.
EDIT: I know it's confusing to read back but if you have a question just repost it in this thread. You should all be studying/relaxing anyway.
-
where did you find that info ROmeo?
Exam navigator 2011 has all the info on watches.
-
Okay, I have a question related to text response essays
I wrote this in one of my essays and was curious as to whether or not it was wrong:
'As viewers we are only offered an insight into...'
OR is it better to write
'Viewers are only offered an insight into...'
In my mind the first option appears wrong because of the use of 'we', but it somehow keeps on slipping its way into my essays.
It's been ebbing away in the back of my mind for a while now.
-
^ im going with the second as I have something similar - ie. "Dickens engages the reader..." vs "Dickens engages us..." or whatever
-
Thanks Furbob!

Yeah avoid the use of personal pronouns which include you int he piece, you're better off considering yourself as a non-agent in the whole essay author-audience relationship situation.
-
your allowed to say "we" and "us" and "as readers" or "the reader"
just cant say you will or I
-
are allowed to peruse the dictionary in reading time?
-
What does everybody think of those remove with friction pens. I’ve heard that your work can be rubbed out due to the heat and rubbing of exam papers. :-\
