Hey,
Has anyone done MUEP biol or does anyone know how it compares with 3/4 Biol in terms of coursework? / is it worth it?
If I do decide to try out for it, if anything I'll choose the off-campus course cause I can't go to Melbourne 3 times a week as I'm from the country, so I was wondering if anyone could share some light on this!
O and My vce subjects are.. biol and further 3/4 this year, 2012: chem, spec, methods, english language, physics..
7 in total :D. hence why i'm curious to know how muep biol is, because if its a breeze as compared to 3/4, i'd do it for the increments...!

You'd need a 90 avg for 5.0
I highly doubt any Uni subj. would be a "breeze"

True, and well.. obviously wouldn't be something that requires no work, but from what I've read around the forums regarding uni biol, its meant to be easier than vce and stuff.. but I'd rather listen to more than 1 person :D

It's not that it's easier than VCE, it's more that it has a large degree of overlap so you're doing a lot of revision of 3/4.
I don't know how increments work, but in general getting over 80 is fairly tough and is a pretty decent achievement. So if you're willing to settle for a lower increment to be able to study biology further, then it's worth it (extension subjects are about extending yourself not min/maxing your study score)

my two friends who are doing biology said that there's a lot of 3/4 overlap - oh and monash will send you a dead rat in your mail to dissect for a prac report. enjoy?

I've just had my final exam for university extension biology, and if you are considering doing it then just keep in mind that it is definitely not a breeze. I loved semester one, which pretty much covered all of 1 2 3 4 units VCE, but semester 2 was much more challenging... a step up from semester one with more complex genetics and classifications/life over all evolutionary history.
Don't get me wrong, i loved the subject as a whole!
Also, check out the vcaa website because they are rules of the course for next year in terms of all uni subjects to be included as part of a vce load. The increments don't quite work the same. I haven't really had a look at it, not having to worry about vce from next week onwards (WOO!).
But check it out :) It was definitely worth it this year because I got a foot in the door at the uni that I want to go to (melbourne) and I have an increment which is much higher than one of my bottom two subject would have been
Also, make sure you consider your course load. The uni subject is very much another VCE subject, and you have to give it that sort of attention to do well. I had to drop a subject so i could keep my biology there. It's a lot to think about, but good luck! Just take everything into account when making the decision.
