Title: Alliance Francaise: Good or Bad?
Post by: s... on November 29, 2011, 08:14:12 pm
Bonjour tout le monde!

Does anyone know if the holiday programs at Alliance Francaise are useful? Are they worth it??

Also, is there a 'tsfx' for french, possibly??

Merci beaucoup,

s.

Bonjour!

It's definitely worth it. Particularly with languages, the key is exposure. The Alliance Francaise days provide a good opportunity to immerse yourself in the language. Even better would be a trip to France/ a francophone country but I understand this is not possible/plausible for everyone.

To get more exposure make sure you watch French news on SBS, watch a new French movie weekly and endeavour to read as many articles in French as possible.

The holiday intensive programs were quite useful. A bit intimidating at the start of the year though. When you do the listening it feels as if you hear mindless blabber. Although, by the end of the year, the Immersion days are excellent and help to consolidate your knowledge/skills. I personally found the writing immersion day more useful than the oral (basic oral drills rather than a full practice oral). However, it was right in the middle of exams so it was quite difficult to sacrifice a whole day.
