Title: Jacks Notes -Worth it?
Post by: Bhootnike on December 04, 2011, 09:25:27 pm
Hi,
I was just wondering if Jacks Notes are worth buying?
I am interested in all of the notes available (from what i know: methods, spesh, chem, physics).

Are they worth getting, especially if you have TSFX and derrick ha stuff?

nah, it is just an additional resources to guide you with a textbook,
so if you have one or two ,that's way enough as those things
are just repeating but just slightly different. You might wanna read
through different textbooks.

I found Jack's notes very concise. In addition to the textbook I would definitely say yes.

But, with this being said if you already have TSFX, Derrick Ha's etc. then your need for them is much less.

If you are one of those people who reads through notes every night and don't want to be reading the same thing over and over, then by all means get them, otherwise it's probably not needed.

yeah i agree ^
Honestly jacks notes together with derrick ha's reference book is the best combo! Its better to have 2 perspectives i recon!

It depends if you will find Jack's notes valuable, if you need a good solid theory summary then I guess they're ok, but I never needed any notes when I was doing VCE and I didn't make any notes either, the textbook was all I needed really (for maths). For sciences (chem/physics) I had the A+ summary notes, they were pretty good :) and they were like $20 too! :D I never think notes are worth it if they are expensive, certainly not TSFX/TSSM/DHa/Jack's - they're not really that much better than the A+

That's only my opinion though :)

So.. are Jack's notes more reference material, or more.. step by step, with lots of worked examples? Because derrick ha's book doesnt have many worked examples.

I don't know how legal this is, but would someone mind scanning a page or 2 of some of jacks notes and pm'ing them to me , so i can get a picture of what they sort of incorporate?

Content wise, and structure wise, are they the same? Or are the differences in things such as detail, more/less diagrams?

I sort of am :p

I'm going to purchase A+ for them too..

From past experiences, - biology 3/4, i found having tsfx notes, a+, textbook, biozone, plus other reference materials e.g. illustrated dictionary of biol, and books from different countries, i was able to latch onto many of the different views. It helped me a lot since I was able to use which ever info. was the best and rote learn it.

----------------------------------------------------------------

How big are jacks notes? So far i know theres 20 sets for spesh, 13 for unit 3 chem, and 7 for unit 4 chem.. but although that sounds big, in total are they like same as derrick ha book or tsfx? or way way bigger? like.. 500 pages :p ?

jacks note usually summarise all the content while at the same time showing you step by step worked solution at the front. I find them very good and to be honest I just read them before my sacs, reading text book is such a pain too much writing to read and I will recommend you to get jacks note.. but 40 bucks is way too much, just tell the seller to make it a bit cheaper coz you can get the whole set for free when you go to jacks near the revision week, but if you want to get them early just get it off someone else cheaper. I sold mine to my friends for like 10 dollar phys, chem, method, spesh everything for the whole year LOL

I still personally think that $40 is reasonable, I would actually say that it's worth it for $40, considering A+ notes is already like $20, but if you can get it for $10, that's a bargain

For each subject (not sure about spesh didn't attend any of those) there is usually a lesson which has considerably less attendance. I know it can often be hard to adjust one's schedule to fit in with these times, but if someone is really that worried about missing a lesson, due to large attendance, they should try.

Although, I agree that it isn't right for people who don't study throughout the year to try and gain knowledge just by rocking up to revision lessons. I think it is fair for those who have worked hard all year to do so, just as people attend end of semester lectures at say, tsfx, without going to lessons throughout the year.

tsfx and derrick ha notes are more than enough
would advise you to make your own summary with subjects like chem tho
