Title: Which Gestalt Principle?
Post by: mypurpleundercracka on April 10, 2009, 04:23:43 pm
Im doing a set of revision questions for AOS2 and one of the questions  is:

Defense forces use camouflage uniforms so that their members are less likely to be visible. Name and explain the Gestalt principle that is applied

Can anyone help me? im leaning toward similarity but im not 100 percent sure.

It is the Figure-ground  principle.
Figure-ground: We organise visual information by perceptually separating important aspects of the visual field into the 'figure', which stands out from the 'ground', (the surroundings)

Military uniforms are designed to use the colours of the surrounding environment so that the figure (soldier) is difficult to separate form the ground (environment) in which the soldier is located.

hope that helps
