And as responsible authority figures, you also no doubt encourage the responsible drinking of alcohol, yes? :)
If you're going to drink, don't binge drink. It's bad for your health and you'll end up regretting it.
Drink responsibly.
Personally, my favourite drink is any drink that doesn't kill my braincells so badly that I begin to spell 'best' with a double s.

To be fair, most straight whiskey drinkers would discourage binge drinking, in that it's a. Ridiculously expensive with whiskey, and b. Defeats the purpose of drinking straight whiskey (savouring the powerful taste). :p
BUT YES, DRINK RESPONSIBLY EVERYONE. Remember that autonomy is the best; chundering all over carpet and being coerced into doing stupid things isn't.

That stuff is goooood. Has recently replaced coke/sprite/etc. in my fridge.
Alcoholic? I like nice wine mostly, but also the occasional bailey's with milk, or midori that's been ridiculously watered-down with lemonade to the point that it tastes like liquid sugar. Mmmm sugar.
-
Milo lol. Why is everyone talking about alcohol.
-
have never in my life had more than a sip of any alcoholic beverage except kir imperial, which is just divine.

I agree with this consensus.

I can't stand the taste of straight whiskey, Corona's a are nice, UDL Vodka's are ok I guess.
I used to like Cruisers/Breezers too, but it's generally considered a ladies' drink, so....:(

Scotch is the best drink, because of this:

Fellow whiskey drinker here. I also like red wine. People my age look at me funny when I show up to a party with a bottle of red and a glass. I enjoy myself in moderation, and other times I like to think of myself as a connoisseur and splash out. ;D

Being a connoisseur is an expensive hobby. I spend all my money on expensive whiskey, coffee beans and audiophile equipment. :P

I would drink to that! Reminds me, I left my bottle of whiskey around at my friends place. I should let him keep it as an extra birthday present? 8)

Single Malt Scotch is too expensive (blame alcohol tax or whatever it is that makes it expensive). Good to see people here drinking whiskey. It's one of the very few spirits which doesn't taste like arse drunk straight

No need to get fucking sanctimonious here. Half the drinks posted here aren't alcoholic and most drinkers denounce binge drinking

I actually only have one bottle of Single Malt at the moment, it's an Islay Whisky though, tastes a bit different from the average Glenfiddich.

I think I can do much better at that price point. :P When I have some cash to burn, I might get one to complete the collection. But there are much better choices, like:

I'm so gangster that I once downed an entire bottle of Black Label.
But seriously, I'd rather have that than black label of the Johnny variety :P

I think you have to be in the mood for drinking a lot of stuff - it's like cheese, where you don't always want it, but sometimes the time just hits you.
That said, I actually prefer the taste of beer and Johnny red+coke a lot more than a lot of soft drinks (including just plain coke :p).
-
This thread is now only about whiskey. Successful highjack is successful.

I know that this is an alcohol fuelled debate, but...
Where's the love for water people?
Without it, you don't survive.
-
Johnny red+coke a lot more than a lot of soft drinks (including just plain coke :p).
Tolerable, but Johnny Walker's Red Label tastes like cheap cigars. Only thing it is good for is spitting in people's eyes or mixing with cola-based drinks.
-
Goji berry juice, LOADED with antioxidants but so bloody expensive.

You've got some crazy expensive tastes. I doubt I can differentiate the 12 y/o from the 21 y/o so it's probably wasted on me haha. Duty free is godsend so I hafta look for some Glenfiddich the next time I leave the country.

Pft. You can drink water when you're dead :p

Does anyone like Midori?
edit: its not something that I have regularly btw, I'm actually not a big alcohol fan despite having quite a lot of drinks at home (that no-one consumes...) :(

Typical Paul. So innocent, yet so guilty.
There are MUCH stronger mainstream drinks than that.

i still think 24% is reasonably high, like i know vodka is around 40%, i drank that straight out of a bottle once, and my throat burned for a while :S

Heh, I've had 95% Polish Vodka before. THAT is what you call burn. I began to doubt my friends and thought that it was used for polishing things rather than being from the country...

damnnn, now i wanna try absinthe, but i'm still doubtful about the taste, i personally hate the taste of vodka, midori is ok because it tastes nice ;D

Only Russians like the taste of Vodka though to be fair, they've got frostbitten tastebuds

Girls do tend to drink much sweet drinks. And guys tend to like straight spirits. Just a generalisation that fits my alcohol experiences. However, Midori is not bad. I would not opt for it though.

It's also great cos you can get it served to you at clubs. My mate munted it everywhere lol, funniest shit... Actually, would be a good prank to pull on someone

Apparently there's a thing you can get called ABC shots (Absinthe, 151 and Chartreuse). Some killer shit right there
I get what you mean with munting off 151. I think I'm the only one out of my friends who walked away clean. Nasty stuff

I find this as well.
Girls tend not to like the strong alcohol taste, that's one reason most of the mixed drinks drown out the alcohol taste almost completely.
Guys tend to go for the stronger/sharper/stimulating sensation, something that delivers a shock. Beer, dark chocolate, straight spirits, espresso coffee, etc.

Age is only one factor. The difference between a 12 y/o, 18 y/o and 21 y/o is really not that much, once it's reached a certain maturity, it stops getting that much better. However, the quality/selection of ingredients do make a huge difference (given that it has matured properly). Different blends have vastly different flavours, I chase the variety in taste instead of trying to find the oldest aged whiskey.
I've been to a whiskey tasting not long ago, and a group of us polished a $350 bottle. It was only an 18 year old I think, but by far the most 'complex' whiskey I've ever had. It rolled from very smokey to very fruity, 'twas sensational.
This is also the reason why I like the double black, it's the only one that has complexity of flavour at an affordable price. Gold is great, green/black/red are all fairly rubbish in comparison with the double black.
-
I'm sticking with straight spirits this year
-
Okay, here is the "teewreck" selection for a special night out ;). Three PREMIUM drinks for when you want to go out, and drink something (relatively) nice.
Vodka Cloudy Apple
(http://c480338.r38.cf2.rackcdn.com/uploads/products/extras/3997/large.jpg)
There's been a new event in your life, and you want to celebrate. Being the poor high school/uni student you are, you can't afford to just buy an expensive bottle of wine and be done with it. Yet perhaps this is something important, and you're feeling a bit too classy for the good ol' goon sack. Well let me introduce this beauty - the Voon sack. At a flask-sized 11 standard drinks, it's bound to get you spinning and the delicious flavours will make you feel a step above those tasteless bogans drinking their $9 for 2L "fruity" goon. Step above the game and drink Voon today, or forever be known as that other "pov" kid drinking from his or her sack of shame.
Rekorderlig Cider
(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_9dLVrr6Jkyk/TQF97coWTxI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/VXADivJ9Hrg/s1600/3Ciders1.png)
Sometimes you want to drink beer and have a barbie and vandalize your local white fence. And sometimes you want to go out and not be a derelict hobo. For the latter option, drink rekorderlig. This slightly more expensive (yet also more delicious) cider will get your tastebuds tingling as you amp up for a night of no-good tomfoolery and shenanigans. Be warned however; after drinking this delightful cider you won't want to go back to your trashy VB or Carlton Draught, and that might start getting expensive!
Sambuca
(http://thegreatspiritcompany.com/gsimages/zanin/sambuca.jpg)
Popularized by Australian icon and all around super star Jaydos, this delicious licorice flavoured drink is exactly what you need for a big night out. At $50 for 21 standard drinks, it's the premium drink to split with a friend and enjoy. Perfect for pres or clubbing, you know that when you drink Sambuca shit is going to get REAL.
Enjoy my selection, and drink responsibly ;).
-
You guys are so classy.
What's wrong with some good ol' goon?

Nope, I have not. How much are we talking? I personally cannot stomach some of the stuff my friends drink, like Carlton and, yes, even VB.
I just do not like the taste they give.
