So... who got in DESPITE THE RIDICULOUS ATAR!?!?!
Look forward to seeing you next year!
-
Me :D
-
I WANT TO CRY D:
I think I'll just go to the university tomorrow and refuse to leave until they let me in.
-
I WANT TO CRY D:
I heard that the ATAR for it was 97.5 cutoff
I think I'll just go to the university tomorrow and refuse to leave until they let me in.
Clearly-in was actually 99.00 this year, sorry to hear you missed out..

The cut-off was much higher - 99.00. I know of at least half a dozen people with ATARs higher than yours who didn't get it in this round either, unfortunately, so I don't know what your chances are staging an occupation at the university admissions office :(
-
I got into biomedicine :)

Hey, the ATAR requirement was ridiculously high. I only managed to scrape through cause I was just lucky enough to get KLD. Don't beat yourself up about it; BSci is just as good (if not better in some aspects).

Ripped off badly mate. I feel for you. Completely reamed by the university. They say one thing (30% cap on SEAS) and then go and give over half the spots to SEAS applicants. You never had a chance. :/

Fark did they give 50%+ to SEAS again?!
It's freaking ridiculous. With the amount of people I know who get SEAS that are legit as compared to those 'accentuating' their situations and those stories I hear from other people... eugh - not many deserve SEAS but 'cheat' their way into it...
And I hate how those legit 98+ able students miss out.. it's so unfair.

56% went to SEAS...
Re: Biomed clearly-in - 99.00
-
So guys, thoughts about what / if you're gonna major in (something)?
Biochemistry and Molecular biology / Genetics sound intriguing as of now.
-
Probs major in either Biochemistry + Molecular Biology or Immunology :)
-
If you don't major in Immunology you're doing it wrong

I like how this was the case, and yet still The Age still writes this article;

EDIT: That article is from last year... awwwwkkkssss

Lol really? What about that "Defence and Disease" one. I hear it's a mishmash of immunology and another.
-
^^^
Immunology and Pathology, but it's nothing special, just classes from each so there's no cohesion. Immunology is just the best one :)
Also turns out to be pretty handy for the MD, which is a nice fringe benefit

Did you, erm, look at the date on that article?

That's really awkward. I blame the person who linked it to meeeeeeeee

It would've been Stonecold, but he prefaced it with, "I can't believe UoM has allowed 56% under the cutoff given they previously promised they'd reduce it this year"
-
From what I hear biomedicine and science are practically the same (in terms of choosing similar subjects) and if anything there is more flexibility in science for other career opportunities.
-
Hey russ does biochem + molecular biology confer any advantage in the MD course? I'm probs leaning more towards this major ATM :)

Yes, essentially biomed is a more tailored science course. This kind of thing is perfect for someone like me whose interests in the scientific field lie within the realms of health, biology and chemistry. This course also fulfills the prerequisites for the MD as part of the core subjects.

haha. Yeahawesome.
93 and got in.
I have no idea how.
Sorry to the guys that actually got a decent score and didn't get it...

I know someone who got in on the dodgiest SEAS category (he lives in this massive house, has shitloads of money, but it's in a "poor area") with an ATAR of 92.05. It's sooooooo ridiculously unfair for the 98ers who miss out on their course so that some rich bludger who cheated the system can take their place.

Damn those who cheat the system! But if you did have the possibility, I think many would consider the opportunity of doing it unfortunately.
