Title: POSSIBLE VTAC ERROR?
Post by: rougeur on January 16, 2012, 06:21:31 pm
Hi guys,

My best friend and I both applied for the exact same course as our first preference. I got it but for some reason, she got her second preference (Arts @ Monash) even though her score was much higher than mine. The course she got offered today used to be her first preference but she changed them early December. If the change had gone through properly, she would have gotten an offer for Melbourne, not Monash. Is there a chance that VTAC didn't register the change and just offered her a place according to the old order of preferences? If they're sticking by the old preferences and her ATAR is ridiculously high for the course she actually wants, would it be likely she would get an irregular offer if she applied for it because the preference is lower on the list? Btw, the course she wants is Arts at UoM. I realise second round offers for UoM are generally rarer than all the other universities but I know that UoM does give out a few second round offers for its courses every year.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Firstly, did she save her preferences?  I know it sounds simple, but I've had experiences from people who forgot to save their preferences.

My advice to her is to apply for an Irregular Offer.  If she got a higher ATAR than you and you received an offer, provided she has met all the pre-requisites, then she should be fine.

I will have to check with her but I am pretty much 99% sure she did.

I seriously have my fingers crossed that an irregular offer application will be successful.
