I've received an offer for law&commerce for Monash university. However due to an unexpected family problem, I am forced to take a gap year this year...
However, I did not apply for the gap year last year..
If I just don't enroll at Monash, does this mean that I am automatically taking a gap year?
Furthermore, I heard that my atar score is valid for two years. So.. I can reapply to universities for next year's rounds right?

Did you recieve your offer round 1 or round 2?
If you wanted to defer your course, I think you had to apply for deferrment through WES after you enrolled. I think it's closed now, but you can email your faculty.
Also, if you didn't enrol before 27th of Jan (if you received your offer in Round 1, not sure about round 2 dates) your offer lasped i.e you don't have that offer for that course anymore. So yeah, no course means a gap year I suppose :/
Yes I believe you can apply. However I have no idea if it's the same process as this year.
Anywho, I'm pretty sure the info I posted is correct, but I didn't really pay attention at the info session about deferment so yeah I could be wrong. Please double check this info with Monash, they'd be the best people to ask :)

I might be a little late to defer the normal way for a gap year (I think for monash first round the forms for deferral had to be in by the 20th of Jan - for med anyway) - but if you are doing it because of an unforeseen family reason you could call the Uni (or the specific faculty) and ask them for a deferral directly. They'd probably be more sympathetic if they see that the reason is out of your control. Otherwise your could just apply again next year through VTAC
