Title: 1 or 2 3/4s in year 11?
Post by: jmosh002 on February 19, 2012, 08:55:45 pm
Hi all,
I am contemplating between doing 1 or 2 3/4 subjects in year 11. I know that i will doing methods as a 3/4 in year 11 and then spec in year 12, although i am not sure if i should do something else alongside methods as it will put less pressure on me in year 12, having 1 less subject. - As well as the fact that i will be studying for the umat which is like a whole extra subject. The subjects that i am considering doing with methods are biology, Further maths, and Health and human development. What should i do? Should i do 1 subject or 2 subjects?

If you are doing Methods you might be able to handle Further quite easily, but it's rather subjective.

Personally, if I could go back to year 11 I would have done both Methods 3&4 and Further 3&4 in year 11 followed by spesh in year 12, but that's just me.

If it so happens you do choose to do two and don't perform as well as you hoped in one, it would open up the opportunity to take on a University Enhancement Program (Possibly Mathematics - if you enjoy and are allowed 4 Maths?) with considerably less stress as it has less workload than a year 12 subject and you would have more time.

Alternatively the double of Methods and Biology 3&4 in Year 11 seems to be favoured by many students, so you may want to look into that as well.

Do you know how much university maths would overlap with spesh?

Doing two subjects really frees you up in Year 12. Probably the best decision I made in VCE. Only went to school a few days a week. :)
