Title: First Biology sac of the year!
Post by: Markkiieee on February 29, 2012, 08:35:22 pm
Hey guys, at Mill Park, we just had our first sac of the year.

It was a prac based on hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic solutions.

What was your sac on?

Our SAC was in two parts. The first part I got a 12\14 on and I'm yet to know what I got for the second half.

Please comment if you've done a SAC yet and let me know how it went!

-Mark

Basically had the same SAC & I got a 20.5/25 which is pretty disappointing but oh wells.

Good luck on your result :)

We did our first part last week (the prac) and my results weren't what i expected
and so I'm worried for results :/
we do our discussion and graphs etc tomorrow...
not exactly sure how to go about it

wow, you guys got your results so fast? I still have to wait till next week.

And why are the next sac so fast cos ours is like 3-4weeks away, last week of the term..

Markie: how did you end up getting 12/14?Shouldn't it be out of 25...
and what's your first and second part?

We had ours like 2 weeks ago, and I got 22/25. It was also on osmosis and hyper, iso and hypotonic.

Our next SAC is on enzymes and it's on Monday. :/

Ermm is there a problem if my sac is wayyy later than you guys? Mine is like on 28 or 29 of March..
and did you really study for the first sac?seeing that you got 22/25..
:) what's the prac on for the next one?enzymes?

Nah, it will give you an advantage in SAC scores, and will be scaled by exam scores in turn. It may help you if you have a strong cohort.
I did not study long term, rather spent time around a week before the SAC learning the definitions of osmosis, hypertonic, isotonic and hypotonic, and then focused on understanding them in practice. We were also required to know the phospholipid bilayer in visual detail. I won't give away too much as I don't really know what your school will put in their SACs.

Hah thanks for that! yeah I have a strong cohort this year!
You did very well though and yeah I didnt focus much on the phospholipid bilayer
How about enzymes? All the school will be quite the same but just some minor difference.

Our enzyme SAC is on Monday, so I am covering mostly the details of what happens to enzymes at lower, optimum and higher temperatures, and in different levels of pH. We also need to know about anabolic and catabolic reactions, and the product of amylase and starch. Oh yeah, you also should know about the activation energy and how the enzymes reduce it. I don't really know what our prac involves yet, I think pieces of liver or something, but we were told time is very important for the prac, and that small time errors could change the results fast.

Your sac is this coming monday and you havent done the prac?
Okay so we have to know the optimum temperature of human enzymes?
well, so it doesnt invole ATP production yeah? Thats true

Yeah we do our prac and SAC together. Optimum temperature isn't hard, it's around 35-40 degrees. Human body temperature.

I've got my prac and write up on monday and i think we're doing the potato experiment aswell. What did you do in the prac and what were the things that you need to know for the discussion?

Sucrose/rhubarb. When I get on the computer I'll tell you what you need to know.
