Title: When did you start practice exams for mid years?
Post by: soccerboi on April 06, 2012, 05:30:36 pm
To past vce students, just curious as to when you guys started doing practice exams for mid years? Do you reckon 1 month of practice exams is enough to get an A+ or is more time needed? Also, how many did you guys do?

Current vce students also welcomed to offer any advice or suggestions.

Cheers

Getting an A+ is about how well you know the course material, not how many practice exams. You could do 5 practice exams starting two weeks before hand and get 95% or do 50+ starting two months prior and only scrape an A in the real thing.

Whenever you feel ready, start doing practice exams. If not, don't. I'd recommend you instead get a copy of Checkpoints, NEAP or Insight (study guides) and start doing questions out of those related to specific areas that you're currently studying, have studied in the last term or struggle with.

I don't know about other year 12's, but I started a few weeks ago.
For Physics that is, since Im well versed in the course, which I completed on the holidays.
Can't say that much for chemistry though, Don't really like the subject, but yeah, Im getting there.
Although I completed most of it, its just a lot to memorise imo, so I guess once I get the final chapters this week, Ill be starting at the begiining of term 2...

Advice: Don't go off the number of prac exams you did.

Eg:
Methods:
did 40 exam 1's and 15 exam 2's over a period of 1.5months-ish (didnt check over my mistakes thoroughly, didn't go over fuzzy content, just spammed exams)
Got an A on exam 1 and B+ on exam 2.

Accounting mid years:
spammed 10 exams (like 5 over a month and then 5 on the day before)
but with each of the 5 exams i did over a month, i took care in all the mistakes i made, thoroughly checked them and made sure i never made them again (made an error log book)
got A+
Accounting end years:
Same procedure, just no error log book, didnt check thoroughly over mistakes.
got A

so dont worry so much about quantity, i think 1 month is more than enough time if you do your prac exams in proper timed conditions and check them thoroughly

I totally agree. Its just i plan to do about 30 practice exams, and i am starting to freak out because originally i planned to start them at the beginning of March, and even now i feel i'm not ready yet.

I'd recommend you instead get a copy of Checkpoints, NEAP or Insight (study guides) and start doing questions out of those related to specific areas that you're currently studying, have studied in the last term or struggle with.
Agreed, exactly what I'm doing at the moment.

Then just keep doing that and once you feel comfortable with every aspect of Unit 3, start your practice exams! 1 every day or two starting from the first few weeks of May will easily take to 30 before the exam (:

Good luck, and keep reading as much material as you can.
