Title: Lack of motivation?
Post by: saheh on April 06, 2012, 07:02:09 pm
What do you all do when you feel like crap?
When you just have one of those days when you have no motivation, have a heavy hand when you write, and just can't focus?
I've had one of those days today and it's just not cool at all.

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm having one today too. Probably best to just relax and take time off from studies just for a day, it wouldn't hurt. Although i have been forcing myself to study today, i end up getting a headache, so I'm just gonna do something i enjoy, gaming!

You could try reminding yourself that you have a test/SAC coming up and imagine the stress you would be feeling if you leave studying too late. Also, imagine all those other students studying and improving their knowledge and potential ATAR scores. Every second you don't study just increases the gap between you and their academic ability. They're stealing bits of your ATAR score!

I've been feeling like that since 3 weeks after Term 1.. pretty much behind in all my subjects.. and there's problems with family, social life, etc, and am always tired so I can't really concentrate on school work.. life is fucked atm.

stop resisting the feeling and let it pass through you naturally
you know that saying, 'the more you resist, the more it persists' i think it applies a lot when it comes to this sort of stuff.

eg:
when you're not supposed to laugh at something, and try to resist laughter, it just bursts out even more.
 * still remember ANZAC Days back in primary school, at the sound of the horn for the last post i used to crack up (no disrespect, the instrument just sounds like a fart)

just bask in the ambience of this lack of motivation for a while and naturally you'll be motivated later on.
or you can go on a run, those are quite motivating and exercise is good for you

edit:

since VCAA doesnt care, you just have to distance yourself from this when you study. As weird advice as it may be, go get bigger problems. LOL
Idk how to explain it, but if i ever feel i have problems, i look at myself from someone else's shoes and just laugh at how minuscule they are. Then the problems stop bothering me.(sorry if i'm being insensitive, i have no idea what the gravity of your problems may be like, but that's how i deal with it and it works (Y) )

are u just tired when you think about studying, or just always tired in general?
I had periods where i was always tired in general and tried to fight the tiredness, but really it's best to just sleep for an hour or two, and then you wake up feeling not tired.

No. This couldn't be further from the truth. Work accomplished = time spent x intensity of focus

Do not fall into the trap of pseudo-study.

Isn't it more like
Work accomplished = time spent x efficiency of study ?

EDIT: Now realised thats that is probably what you meant, nvm, bcub3d is tired and not thinking straight.

Well at least you're not working because you're unmotivated! I cant even explain the logic that goes through my head..... Im so motivated to do well, yet still do nothing much with my time.
Anyways, i think set a clear goal and also join my 'i want a life' campaign for teenagers suffering from cyber addiction - i wrote 'i want a life' on my wrist and when i see it, it motivates me towards the fact that i want a future and a life other than the online one. :)
Well... The campaign is a work in progress.

Are you me? I've been so demotivated for the last few days, esp when I tried to do the checkpoints for Physics (one of my stronger subjects) and i was like, wtf is all of this.
