Is there anything specific you are finding difficult when approaching this analysis? Happy to help, just give me some particulars and I will lend a hand :)

I basically need help with the whole article  :-[
Also, I've been given our 2nd article to analyse for my upcoming 3 piece language analysis SAC:

However, this is no excuse for me to sit back and let someone else do all the work. I'm a novice when it comes to language analysis, but I'll try and get my hands dirty and dissect the language devices. At this stage any help would be great just to get the ball rolling. Thanks.

Just a few notes that I pulled from the ABC piece:
- still an issue which is yet to be resolved, contributes to the relevance of the piece thus attention-grabbing for public
- the structure at the beginning of the piece is reflective of the power structure for reform making (talks about Macklin, Gillard and ClubsNSW, but then goes onto say "it's not about them")
- further makes subtle criticism of the aforementioned governing bodies through details given of their attempts of persuasion within Parliament House and the Press Gallery
- obvious use of statistics for legitimacy
- the colloquial "this, frankly, is nonsense" breaks up the formality of the piece, and therefore brings attention to this statement and what it is communicating
- expert opinion from Productivity Commission
- listing of the possible consequences of problem gambling
- Charles Livingstone's credentials at bottom of article

These are just some of the things I picked up during a brief skim through. Obviously you need to decide how to structure your analysis, and that will give you some framework on where to group certain techniques together and how much detail you will go into the effect of the various writing functions.

Hope this gave you a bit of a starting point.
