So my school is offering unit 3/4 bio next year (year 11), and im pretty keen on doing it next year, because all over these forums it seems the highest achievers who've done bio did so in year 11,
i was just curious, as to whether you need unit 1/2 to do well in units 3/4
don't laugh at my lack of knowledge please :-[
-
It would certainly be helpful, although if you do some extra reading in the holidays of the units 1/2 material that you have missed you should be fine.
-
Nah not really, I know a couple of guys who got 50 raw with no 1/2 knowledge :) Might help a little, but not too much.
(I did it without 1/2 too! [albeit to 42 raw])

A lot of people at my school are doing Bio 3/4 without 1/2 and from what I've heard they're doing perfectly fine
As long as you study hard over the holidays you shouldn't really struggle :)

btw, don't do bio for the bold reason :)
I know plenty of super-high achievers (ie. 99.90+) who never did bio at all in VCE.

Don't be obliged to do Biology, especially if you think it would put out at a disadvantage, but if you think you can handle it then go ahead.

I think he meant that people who achieved highly in Bio studied the subject in Year 11, rather than Year 12.
But yeah, don't be inhibited by the fact that you haven't studied Units 1 & 2. I'd advise you to get a tutor, at least for the summer holidays period, to brush up on the essentials of the course.

I've picked up bio this year (in y12) without 1/2
and I'm loving it
I just read a bit ahead in the summer holidays and familiarised myself with what i didn't know,
and I've done pretty well on my sacs (90+%)
If you're interested in it then go for it, because its an awesome subject

yeah that's what I meant.
I plan on doing bio either way, from what it sounds like, it can be picked up in year 11 with a bit of tutoring/study, I'll also ask my teachers what they can offer to help, thanks !

That's not true either haha
edit: fark, inspectorfletcher you are aiming for 99.90+ looking at ur sig, good luck haha :)

It's fine to do it without 1\2.
Some 1\2 things I learnt help but it's not like everything in 3\4 is linked to 1\2
-
i actually wish i did it in year 11 without 1/2, im yet to use any knowledge in 3/4 that i didn't already know from year 10 :s some things about plants (this sac) i will tho but thats about it haha

You'll be fine. Bio is a subject that you don't really need 1/2 sure it would help but it's not really needed. Just google summaries of 1/2 and you're worried about it.
